"Okay! Make yourself at home, don't be too reserved. It's just me and Ah Kun's dad here." Liu Yufen said with a kind smile.

Liu Yufen looked at the girl; she was quiet and gentle, with fair skin and a pretty face. No wonder Ah Xiang in the village always liked Ah Kun, but Ah Kun always rejected her, and Ah Xiang eventually got married as she got older. Compared to Ah Xiang, Yun Shu was like a delicate, precious flower cultivated in a garden, while Ah Xiang was like an unknown wildflower in the field. However, she had some worries. She was supposedly a doctor; she wondered about the girl's family background. If they were too wealthy, like Minmin's mother-in-law's family, even if the girl and her son had a good relationship, they couldn't be together; it would harm her son.

Yun Shu poured Liu Yufen a cup of tea before pouring one for herself. After taking a sip, she couldn't tell what kind of tea it was, but it was fragrant, refreshing, and had a sweet aftertaste, making it comparable to famous teas from elsewhere.

"Auntie, what kind of tea is this? It's quite delicious," Yun Shu asked after finishing her cup.

"This isn't any good tea. It's just a type of leaf from our mountain. We don't buy tea leaves here; we just pick them ourselves, dry them, and then brew them." Liu Yufen chuckled, thinking to herself that it was good that Yun Shu didn't mind that there were no tea leaves here.

“Oh, no wonder! I think I smelled this kind of tea when Mingkun was drinking it last time. It smells a bit like a kind of medicine that my grandfather used to pick from the mountains when I was a child. It’s also suitable for boiling in water in the summer.”

"Really? Is your family from the countryside too?" Liu Yufen assumed she was a country girl, but she didn't look like one.

When Yun Shu heard her say that, she knew that there was a misunderstanding. Moreover, Xiao Mingkun had not told them her specific identity, and she did not know why he was hiding some of her background.

After considering for a moment, she spoke again: "No, my maternal grandparents are from the countryside, but my family is from the city. I grew up in the countryside, so I know a lot about rural life. Do you have a big stove at home? I know how to use it."

"Really! That's great! Our family doesn't like those delicate girls from the city. You can't say a word to them, you can't scold them. There's a family in the village who married a girl from a rich city family, but she ran away less than a month after the wedding. And Minmin's previous in-laws, they bullied our family terribly because they were rich. So now I can't accept any girl from a rich family!" Liu Yufen explained why she didn't want girls from rich families.

“Um… Auntie, some city girls are really nice too, like me, haha…” Yun Shu was a little embarrassed. Nowadays, people like rich people, but she didn’t expect Xiao Mingkun’s family to be so strange, preferring poor people instead.

Seeing Yun Shu's evasive words, Liu Yufen felt inexplicably uneasy. It seemed that she would have to ask Yun Shu about her family situation in detail after her son returned. Perhaps her family couldn't afford to accept a rich girl!

The Xiao family is actually quite well-off; they're probably second to last in the village, if not the first. Mingkun's grandfather even served in the Red Army during the War of Resistance against Japan, but later returned to the village to live a normal life. However, their ancestors were never ordinary people. Xiao is a common surname in the village, and their ancestors were officials; Mingkun's father, Xiao Youmin, is currently the village head. The houses and land left by their ancestors are very valuable.

The Xiao family are very low-key and hardworking. Xiao Mingkun's parents are both fifty years old and still take care of the orchard themselves.

"Yunshu, you're a doctor. I heard from Mingkun that you work in a big hospital and deliver babies, right?" Liu Yufen asked about Yunshu's job.

"I just graduated and I'm not qualified to call myself a doctor yet. I don't just do obstetrics and gynecology; I also help with gynecological patients," Yun Shu replied softly.

Liu Yufen wasn't very educated, and she used to give birth at home, just like the older generation of women in the village. She didn't know anything about obstetrics or gynecology. However, she knew that it was very impressive for a woman to be a doctor, and she admired Yun Shu. She thought it would be a great honor to tell others that her daughter-in-law was a doctor.

Not long after, Mingkun returned with his father, carrying a hoe. After they got back, they went to wash up. Seeing that Liu Yufen was about to start cooking, Yunshu went to the kitchen to help.

Yun Shu looked at the rice cooked on the earthen stove and felt a strong sense of familiarity; she hadn't eaten it for many years. Every time she went back to sweep the tombs, she ate out and never went into her aunt's house for a meal again.

The family ate and chatted while enjoying the breeze from the fan. Mingkun's parents were very satisfied with Yunshu, but they were both afraid that Yunshu came from a wealthy family, though Xiao Mingkun didn't say it outright.

After dinner, Xiao Mingkun took Yun Shu to the room on the second floor where he always stayed when he came back.

The room was large and spacious, facing south, with excellent natural light. There wasn't much furniture inside, just a bed, a wardrobe, and a bookshelf in the corner.

"You can rest here." Mingkun placed Yunshu's bag on the chair.

After hearing this, Yun Shu said, "You can sleep in my room, but what about you?"

"Why don't you be kind and let me stay?" Mingkun said wickedly, putting his arm around Yunshu.

"Shameless! We're not even married yet! If we live together, what will your parents think of me?" Yun Shu wasn't that stupid, especially since people in the countryside are more conservative. They weren't even married yet!

"Don't worry, my mom is always looking forward to having a grandson. If we can give her one, she won't have any more problems." Mingkun breathed into her ear, and after speaking, he nibbled on Yun Shu's delicate earlobe. He knew her sensitive spot.

"Don't do this... Get out of here... or I'll get angry!" Yun Shu said, trembling. This man was going too far; he was even trying to seduce her here.

Seeing her fierce resistance, Mingkun thought about how it would be inconvenient if his parents came to call them later at home. So he gave up on flirting with Yunshu and said, "Give me some more benefits when we get back, and I'll let you go for now."

"Okay... let's go out! I need to change my clothes." After saying that, Yun Shu pushed Ming Kun out and then slammed the door shut.

Mingkun stood staring at the closed door, shook his head and sighed regretfully before walking to the room next door where Minmin used to live. He planned to rest there.

Inside, Yun Shu changed into more comfortable loungewear. The sun was high, and it was hot at midday, so she decided to lie down for a while. She felt very uncomfortable chatting with Ming Kun's parents earlier. It wasn't that his parents were the problem; Yun Shu just didn't like interacting with strangers. And since they were her future mother-in-law, she was hesitant to say certain things, making the conversation very awkward.

Yun Shu and Ming Kun were resting upstairs, while Ming Kun's parents were talking downstairs.
