Chu Mofan's face was pale, his eyes were lifeless, as if all his energy had been drained. He walked unsteadily to the sofa and sat down heavily.

Wang Lijun followed closely behind, looking at Chu Mofan with a mixture of doubt and worry.

After a long silence, he slowly spoke:

"It wasn't Ye Xinghe last night. I made a mistake."

"What did you say?" Wang Lijun's face turned green instantly.

"I repeatedly told you to win over Ye Xinghe and make it a fait accompli! How did you agree to that?!"

Chu Mofan recounted what had happened the night before and Ye Xinghe's attitude towards him. The mother and son couldn't find any clues, except for Ye Xinghe's unusual behavior.

"What do you plan to do with that girl from the Jin family?" Wang Lijun was very displeased that things had not been handled properly and that the Jin family had been involved.

"I've calmed her down. Let's keep her hanging on for now."

Chu Mofan was still trying to recall every detail of last night.

Ye Xinghe has indeed changed a lot since then; she's a completely different person.

But how did she know there was something wrong with the wine?

How did the wine in her hand end up in my hands?

Waiter!! It must be that waiter from yesterday!

Chu Mofan took a deep breath, his face showing a look of embarrassment and annoyance.

He then made a phone call, saying, "Investigate that bar next to Jiangda University."

The next day, Monday, was the Ye family's family banquet.

Last week, Grandpa Ye made a promise that the family gathering this Monday would fulfill, and it would also be the day Ye Shuang achieved her results.

After lunch, Ye Xinghe went to the Ye family's old house.

"Grandpa, why are you home alone? Where are Grandma and Ye Shuang?"

As soon as Ye Xinghe entered the house, she saw her grandfather reading a newspaper alone in the living room.

“Your grandma went to Sanbao Temple with her friends early this morning.”

"Xiao Shuang, you must have done well this time. You went shopping with your second aunt."

Ye Junze, holding a newspaper, looked at Ye Xinghe over his reading glasses and asked, "What are you fiddling with?"

Ye Xinghe walked up to her grandfather with her phone in hand. "Grandpa, I'm about to start working at Huashi Group. My senior recommended a voice-to-text app to me. I'll look into its features; maybe I'll find it useful at work."

Ye Xinghe sensed that something was wrong with her grandfather, so she put down her phone and said:

"I'll look into it when I get home tonight. I'll talk to Grandpa for now."

Grandpa Ye looked at his eldest granddaughter with affection and said kindly,

"Grandpa has something to ask you. Why did Xiaoshuang and the others get their results so late this year? Do you know why? Do you know how many points she got? Tell Grandpa in advance."

Seeing her grandfather's gossipy expression, Ye Xinghe deliberately didn't satisfy his curiosity and calmly replied,

"Maybe their school has some special policies this year. I don't know much about Yang University."

"Don't you dare keep anything from Grandpa!" Ye Junze took off his glasses and threw them on the coffee table, pretending to be angry. "Grandpa has spoiled you for nothing."

Ye Xinghe was amused by her grandfather's behavior; this is what people often call "old people being like children."

"How could I dare! My grandfather taught me from a young age that if I suffer a loss, I should tell him; if I feel wronged, I should tell him; and I should share everything with him!"

Ye Xinghe got up and walked behind her grandfather, massaging his shoulders.

“You see Xiaoshuang every day, why don’t you ask me?” she said, increasing the pressure as she spoke. “Today I’ll let you experience it for yourself, you didn’t suffer in vain!”

"You're always messing with Grandpa! Are you trying to give him a massage or strangle him? Go back and sit down."

Ye Junze patted Ye Xinghe's hand and teased her.

"No! Grandpa, go that way."

Ye Xinghe insisted on squeezing into a single sofa with her grandfather. She rested her head on his shoulder and said, "Grandpa, please read the newspaper to me, just like when I was little."

Grandpa Ye pretended to complain, "I read the newspaper to you when you were little because you couldn't read. Now you've graduated from university, and you still want me to read to you?"

After saying that, he put on his glasses and began to read.

Ye Xinghe wished time could stand still at this moment.

In her previous life, she rarely got close to her grandfather, and mostly exchanged polite greetings with her elders.

She didn't even go to see her grandfather one last time...

Recalling all this, Ye Xinghe's eyes reddened. She turned her head away and secretly wiped her eyes.

"Hey! Grandpa! You read it wrong!"

Grandpa Ye looked embarrassed. "Ah. Grandpa did it on purpose. I think you were daydreaming."

Ye Shuang and her mother Zhuang Xiuqing entered the house carrying large and small bags, just in time to see the grandfather and granddaughter sitting on a sofa chatting and laughing.

"That brat Ye Xinghe, she always arrives right on time! When did she start knowing how to coax the old man?" Zhuang Xiuqing thought to herself.

Ye Xinghe stood up and greeted him with a smile.

"Xinghe, it's rare for you to come so early today. Unlike our Xiaoshuang, you can spend every day with Grandpa."

Zhuang Xiuqing had a gentle and kind face, but her tone was full of mockery.

"Second Aunt, I'll come over to keep Grandpa company whenever I have time," Ye Xinghe said with a sweet smile as she stood there obediently. "Or I could move in with you!"

"Great! There are plenty of empty rooms! You can move in here!"

Grandpa Ye was overjoyed and readily agreed.

But Zhuang Xiuqing was not willing!

She originally wanted to make fun of Ye Xinghe for not visiting to take care of the old man often, but she didn't expect her to want to move in!

We can't let her get too close to the old man.

She gently nudged Ye Shuang beside her, "Shuang, are you going to stay in the living room with Grandpa? Okay, give me your things."

Zhuang Xiuqing took the bag from Ye Shuang's hand, smiled with narrowed eyes, and said...

"Xiao Shuang is with her grandpa every day, and they always have so much to talk about. This child is really something; she's loved sticking to her grandpa since she was little!"

After she finished speaking to herself, she went upstairs to her room.

Ye Xinghe walked over to Ye Shuang and sat down next to her.

As soon as she sat down, she gave her grandfather a wink:

Ye Shuang is right here, go ahead and ask.

Old Master Ye's eyes darted around, and he coughed twice before speaking.

"Xiao Shuang, Grandpa has something to ask you."

Ye Xinghe rested her chin on her hand, looking like she was waiting to see a good show.

She knew she couldn't ask her grandfather, so she deliberately teased him.

Grandpa Ye didn't even look at her, and continued:

“I have an old friend, your Grandpa Dai. He wants to build a guesthouse in Qiandao Lake and wants to use the ‘green building’ concept that the country is currently promoting. Do you have any ideas?”

Ye Junze looked at Ye Shuang with a smile, but his eyes were sharp and piercing.

Ye Shuang stiffened, her lips trembled slightly, and she stammered,

"Ah, Grandpa, green... architecture, well, it means... the community should have good landscaping, and there should be more plants."

“I can introduce some plants that are suitable for planting in Qiandao Lake to Grandpa Dai. They are green all year round.”

Ye Xinghe was surprised by this answer!

As a fellow environmental art student, I certainly know that 'green building' doesn't mean that!

Ye Junze maintained his kind expression, staring intently at Ye Shuang. "By the way, what was the content of your graduation thesis?"

"It's about environmental protection, Grandpa," Ye Shuang answered readily this time.

Ye Junze smiled but remained silent.
