The Rise of a General's Daughter-in-Law Doctor
Chapter 7 My Cute Little Cousin
As soon as Li Muxia returned, she saw a little girl peeking into the yard from the doorway. She looked familiar and seemed to be her little cousin, Li Anran.
Cui'er noticed it too and reminded her, "Miss, it seems to be the Second Miss."
Li Muxia had been here for over a month, but she couldn't recall ever having any contact with this younger cousin, not even exchanging a single word with her. She'd only seen her at the dinner table during meals. She usually stayed in her own courtyard and never came out.
When Li Muxia first transmigrated, she asked Cui'er and learned that when Li Anran was eight years old, she fell into the pond in the Imperial Garden during a palace banquet. It was late autumn, and the weather was quite cold. She was unconscious when she was pulled out. The Emperor immediately ordered the best physicians from the Imperial Hospital to treat her.
Li Anran fell seriously ill. Dampness entered her lungs and she almost died. Later, her second uncle asked the emperor for two petals of Tianshan snow lotus, which saved her life. Although she survived, her physical condition deteriorated. She would get sick when the weather got cold, and now she looked like a sickly beauty.
After she recovered, she stopped talking to people. She became somewhat timid and afraid of interacting with others. When her family asked her how she fell into the water, she only said that she accidentally stepped into a hole and fell in.
My cousin always ate quietly with her head down, very low-key, and always hid behind my aunt, occasionally stealing a glance at me.
But according to Cui'er, her cousin was very close to her before falling into the water, often following her around calling her "Sister Xia." After falling into the water, she seemed like a different person, and even a little afraid of her.
What are you doing at the gate of your own yard right now?
Li Muxia glanced at the two people at the door. Li Anran's maid, Chunxing, was holding a book, but she couldn't make out what it was.
Li Muxia suddenly had a mischievous urge to tease Li Anran.
He put his finger to his lips and gestured for Cui'er to be quiet. Then he tiptoed quietly behind Li Anran. At this moment, both Li Anran and her servant were focused on the courtyard and were craning their necks to look inside.
They watched and chatted at the same time.
"Chunxing, do you see if my cousin is here?"
"Miss, you've asked me several times already, why don't we just go inside and find out!"
"No, Chunxing, I'm still a little scared!"
Hearing this, Li Muxia chuckled and said, "What are you afraid of? It's not a tiger living inside, it won't eat you!"
The sudden noise startled the two of them. They both turned around at the same time and screamed "Ah!" Then, Li Anran, like a mouse seeing a cat, quickly hid behind Chunxing, peeking out to peek at Li Muxia. Her cautious gaze filled one with a protective instinct.
Li Muxia quickly backed away, covered her ears, and looked at the two of them with disgust. She said with amusement, "If you're so timid, don't try to spy on others!"
"Cousin, you're not in there." Li Anran realized that the person who came in was Li Muxia, but seeing her cousin so close still startled her. It had been so long since she had been this close to her cousin.
Then she gestured for Chunxing to give the book she was holding to Li Muxia, and said hesitantly, "I... I heard that my cousin was looking for medical books, and I happened to have one here, so... I brought it to you!"
After speaking, she looked at Li Muxia with a bit of timidity, which made Li Muxia feel a little depressed. No matter how she looked at it, it seemed as if she was the one forcing an innocent woman.
Li Muxia chuckled as she took the book from his hand. She glanced at the title, "Collection of Herbs," and flipped through it casually. The more she flipped, the more excited she became. The contents of this book reminded her of the "Compendium of Materia Medica" she had seen in modern times. It recorded many herbs, their medicinal effects, and their uses, which were much richer than what she had seen before.
She looked at Li Anran with bright eyes and said excitedly, "Is this book really for me?" She then looked at Li Anran expectantly.
Li Anran blushed under his gaze and whispered, "I can only show it to you for a month. You have to return it to your uncle after a month."
Hearing her reply, Li Muxia happily said, "One month is enough. I'll definitely pay you back then. Thank you!"
After saying that, he gave Li Anran a big bear hug and gave her a kiss on the cheek.
This series of actions left Li Anran stunned on the spot, her face instantly turning red. She remained motionless in Li Muxia's arms, looking like a wooden doll who had been overly frightened.
Hong'er came out after hearing Li Anran and her servant's shouts. Before she could even greet Li Muxia, she was startled by Li Muxia's bear hug. She was really afraid that the second young lady would be crushed by Li Muxia. Looking at the second young lady's small body, she might be crushed to death by the eldest young lady.
The more he thought about it, the more frightened he became, so he quickly reached out to support the second young lady from behind.
This action amused Li Muxia, who was holding Li Anran. She laughed and let go of Li Anran, scolding her, "You little ungrateful thing, your young lady still knows her limits and knows her own weight. Don't worry, I'm holding back! I won't crush my cute little cousin."
Li Muxia was in a great mood. She had found a book she loved, which was a wonderful thing for someone like her who loved books more than anything. She pulled Li Anran into the courtyard as if they were old friends, saying, "Come on, it's so hot today, I'll treat you to shaved ice."
Li Anran stood there dumbfounded as Li Muxia pulled her along. Looking at their clasped hands, she could no longer hold back her pent-up grievances. Large tears streamed down her face.
Li Muxia was still immersed in joy and had no idea of Li Anran's change.
"Why, why did you treat me like that back then?" Li Anran's voice was very soft, but Li Muxia could hear the deep grievance and anger in it.
Li Muxia stopped in surprise, turned around, and looked at Li Anran with a blank expression. "What did you say?"
At this moment, Li Anran looked at Li Muxia who had turned around, her face covered in tears, biting her lip tightly to keep herself from crying out loud!
Hearing Li Muxia's question, Li Anran's expression became even more aggrieved! She shouted hysterically, "Are you denying it now? I was pushed into the water by you at the palace banquet! The person I saw at the time was you! I liked you so much, I trusted you so much, why did you hurt me!"
