The Rise of a General's Daughter-in-Law Doctor
Chapter 3 Crossing
"Cui'er, Hong'er, I want to eat braised pork. Go and get it for me now!" Li Muxia said in a hoarse voice, having not spoken or eaten or drunk anything for a day.
"Miss, you've finally spoken! We'll go get it for you right now. Wait for us, we'll be right there," Cui'er said as she walked out, turning to Hong'er as she went, "Go quickly and tell Master that Miss has spoken! Hurry!"
"Yes, I'll go right now. The master is very anxious."
The old general had just finished court and rushed to Li Muxia's room without even changing out of his court robes. When he saw Li Muxia gnawing on braised pork in one hand and a pork knuckle in the other, he breathed a sigh of relief, thinking she was finally better and back to normal. Before he could even rejoice, Hong'er and several servants entered the room carrying large amounts of meat and fish. Hong'er, seeing the old general, immediately knelt before him as if he were her savior. The old general sensed something was wrong and immediately asked, "Hong'er, what's going on?"
Hong'er cried as she said, "This servant doesn't know what's wrong. Miss keeps asking for food, and she's already eaten a lot. If she eats any more, something bad will happen. Master, please think of something!"
The old general also saw it; there were still fragments of empty plates on the ground. As he was speaking, Li Muxia threw another empty plate on the ground, grabbed something from another plate, and continued to eat heartily.
The old general realized the seriousness of the situation and rushed over to stop him, but before he could even get close, Li Muxia suddenly clutched his neck in pain and collapsed to the ground, repeatedly pointing to his mouth. This terrified the old general, who quickly ran over to help Li Muxia up and ask what was wrong. But Li Muxia just pointed to his mouth and cried out, "Ah, ah!" Hong'er had already run out to fetch a doctor, and Cui'er watched helplessly as tears streamed down Li Muxia's face. The old general was also frantic, because he saw Li Muxia's face turn from red to purple, and finally, his breathing became increasingly weak.
Hong'er, pulling the royal physician Wang along, rushed to Li Muxia's bedside. They found Li Muxia lying there, lifeless and still. The old general was calling out to her, and Cui'er was crying and calling out beside her. Seeing Wang arrive, they quickly made way. The doctor, who was about to bow, was stopped by the old general, who urged him to quickly check on his beloved granddaughter.
The old doctor stepped forward to examine Li Muxia, who had no pulse or breathing. Doctor Wang shook his head at the old general, who, unable to bear the shock, fainted. Hong'er and Doctor Wang rushed to support him, but Hong'er lost her balance and fell towards the bed, landing squarely on Li Muxia's chest. Li Muxia's throat moved slightly, but he did not regain consciousness. Everyone hurriedly carried the old general back into the room, leaving a few people to watch over Li Muxia.
It was late at night, and only Cui'er and Hong'er remained in the room to watch over Li Muxia. At that moment, the person on the bed began to cough violently, which terrified the two girls who were already weeping. They cried and whispered, "Miss, don't scare Hong'er!" But the person on the bed didn't stop coughing; she continued incessantly. After coughing for fifteen minutes, she suddenly rolled over, covered her mouth with her hand, and spat out a bone. Cui'er fainted from fright, and Hong'er covered her eyes, trembling uncontrollably.
Just then, the person on the bed said, "I clearly ate green dates, so why did I spit out bones?"
Hearing that it was her mistress's voice, and not the eerie, terrifying ghostly voice she'd heard others speak of, Hong'er dared to look boldly at Li Muxia. Meanwhile, Li Muxia, engrossed in examining his neck and trying to figure out why the jujube had turned to bone, didn't notice Hong'er slowly approaching. Only when he saw Hong'er's hand tremblingly touch his did he look up and see a 14 or 5-year-old girl looking at him with red eyes, exclaiming joyfully, "Miss, you're not dead!"
Then, before Li Muxia could react, the little girl dashed out again, shouting as she ran, "Miss isn't dead! That's great! Miss isn't dead! I have to hurry and tell Master that Miss isn't dead!"
At this moment, Cui'er stopped pretending to be unconscious, scrambled up from the ground, ran to Li Muxia, and threw herself into his arms, crying. Li Muxia was now completely bewildered and didn't know how to react.
He was just at home, taking a bath and eating jujubes when he accidentally got stuck. He hurriedly tried to climb out of the bath, but his hands slipped and he fell halfway out. How did it develop into this situation?
Could it be that my neighbor noticed something was wrong and came to rescue me? But my neighbor doesn't have a little girl that big. Can anyone tell him what this is?
Regardless, she needed to calm the little girl who was clinging to her and crying incessantly. So Li Muxia cautiously said, "Hello, beautiful lady! May I ask who you are?"
Cui'er opened her eyes wide and looked at her young mistress: "Miss, don't you recognize Cui'er? I'm Cui'er! Miss, what's wrong? I'm Cui'er! Don't you recognize me?"
"Stop, stop, stop! Now we know each other, are you Cui'er? I know!" Li Muxia finally understood what was going on. Wasn't this what they called time travel in novels? Everything here was ancient, with no modern atmosphere at all. And this little girl called herself a servant, and there were no film crew or equipment. There was only one explanation: she had gloriously time-traveled.
So here's the question: did I die in modern times? If I did, how embarrassing would that be? People would know I was killed by a jujube, and the worst part is I wasn't wearing any clothes! That would be incredibly shameful, definitely making headlines, of course, as a negative example. Then parents would tell their children never to eat jujubes while taking a bath like Li Muxia did.
Seeing that her mistress was looking around, frowning in thought, and now patting her head, Cui'er thought that her mistress was not well yet and was about to cry again.
"Mu Xia, Mu Xia, my good granddaughter, Mu Xia!" The old general was helped to Li Mu Xia's side.
Li Muxia looked at the old man with a full head of white hair, her eyes filled with tears, calling his name repeatedly and looking herself up and down. "Muxia, are you really alright? Grandpa isn't dreaming, is he?"
Looking at the old man, Li Muxia suddenly thought of his deceased grandparents. Unable to bear letting him know that the real Li Muxia was dead, he said somewhat awkwardly, "Grandpa, I'm fine, I'm better. I'm sorry to have worried you. Muxia is so unfilial." However, after hearing his words, everyone looked at him as if he were a monster. Li Muxia didn't know what he had said wrong. Was he speaking in the way of the ancients incorrect?
"Grandpa, is my cousin possessed?" said the boy supporting the old general.
Li Muxia also glanced around at the people. To the old man's left was the young man who had spoken earlier. The young man had a pleasant appearance, a handsome face, and long, flowing hair neatly tied back. His deep eyes were now looking at her with concern.
To the right of the old general was a middle-aged man with a fairly handsome face who was also looking at Li Muxia with concern. His features bore some resemblance to the old general, so he must be the old general's son. Standing next to him were a beautiful woman and a young girl, who, judging from their attire, were probably the old general's daughter-in-law and granddaughter.
A group of people stood behind her, probably servants, each with a worried expression. However, Li Muxia, lacking the memories of her predecessor, dared not call out to anyone. To avoid giving herself away, she could only pretend she wasn't fully recovered and said wearily, "Grandpa, I feel a little tired and want to rest!"
The old general didn't think much of it after hearing this, gave a few more instructions, and then told everyone to go back and rest.
