The Rise of a General's Daughter-in-Law Doctor

Chapter 15 Grandmother, you have three highs!

Early the next morning, Li Muxia brought Cui'er to Anran Garden, where they happened to run into Li Anran and Qiuju, who were about to leave.

When Li Anran saw Li Muxia, she quickly and affectionately took Li Muxia's arm and said sweetly, "Sister Xia is here. I was just about to come find you."

Li Muxia gently pinched Li Anran's nose and said affectionately, "Have you had breakfast?"

Li Anran looked at Li Muxia and replied happily, "I've eaten. I also brought rose cakes, which are my grandmother's favorite. My mother made them by hand early this morning. She also asked me to prepare some for Sister Xia as well."

As she spoke, she gestured for Qiuju to give one of the two food boxes she was carrying to Cui'er. Li Muxia asked Chunxing to help deliver it to Liuxia Garden so they could eat it when they returned. Then she took Cui'er and Li Anran with her to Shangguan Mansion.

Since the two houses were not very close, Li Muxia and her family went by horse-drawn carriage.

The carriage quickly stopped in front of the Shangguan residence. Li Anran and Li Muxia alighted from the carriage and went to the gate. Qiuju stepped forward and gently knocked on the door. The gatekeeper opened the door and, seeing that it was Li Anran and the others, let them in. A servant led the way.

Li Anran led Li Muxia through the front yard and they encountered a young maid who looked to be around twenty years old. The maid stepped forward and bowed, saying, "Xinzhu greets the two young ladies."

Li Anran helped Xinzhu up and began to introduce her: "Sister Xia, Xinzhu is my maternal grandmother's head maid." Li Muxia nodded slightly as a greeting.

Knowing the other party's identity, Li Anran and Li Muxia followed Xinzhu directly to Xinyuan Hall, where their maternal grandmother lived in the backyard.

It's still early, and the officials haven't left court yet. Those who didn't attend court are all working in their government offices at this time. Apart from Li Anran's maternal uncle, Shangguan Jingye, all the men in the Ministry of Personnel's office are holding official positions, except for the children who don't have any official titles.

Upon arriving at Xinyuan Hall, Xinzhu led the group through the courtyard to the main hall. As soon as they entered, they saw a plump old lady with a kind face looking at them. She gently greeted Li Muxia and the others, saying, "Anran has arrived. This must be Muxia. It's been a long time. I almost didn't recognize you."

The young man sitting below the old lady also looked up at Li Muxia and the others.

Li Muxia and Li Anran entered the main hall and first bowed to the old lady to pay their respects. Then Li Anran sweetly called out "Grandmother," and only then did she notice the young man sitting below the old lady. She asked in surprise, "Oh, Uncle is here too?"

Then, pulling Li Muxia along, they bowed to Shangguan Jingye again and said in unison, "Ran'er (Muxia) greets her uncle."

Shangguan Jingye quickly told the two to drop the formalities and said with a smile, "Ran'er is here. She can persuade your grandmother. I'm at my wit's end."

Li Anran then looked at the old lady, pretending to be angry, and said, "Grandmother, did you secretly eat pork knuckle again? What's wrong with you? Why didn't you stop Grandmother?"

Her maternal grandmother was good in every way, except for one thing: she loved to eat braised pork knuckles, pig's trotters, and other braised meats. The kitchen used to make these for her every day, but more than a month ago, she started experiencing symptoms such as tinnitus, palpitations, dizziness, and blurred vision. Just then, her uncle came back and examined her, so he instructed the kitchen to make the meals for her light and bland every day from then on.

The old lady avoided eye contact and said awkwardly, "Oh dear, Ran'er, you know, your maternal grandmother loves this. I haven't had it in a long time. I've been eating nothing but bland soup every day. And today I only ate half of it, not much."

Just as the old lady finished speaking, a clear, pleasant, and slightly reproachful voice came from the doorway: "Not much, not much that your uncle would be here?"

The group turned to look at the newcomer, a girl of about fifteen or sixteen years old, dressed in an elegant pale yellow dress with a gold hairpin in her hair, a faint smile on her delicate oval face. The newcomer was Shangguan Wenya, Li Anran's cousin.

Shangguan Wenya gave a slight bow to Li Anran and Li Muxia as a greeting, and then walked to the old lady's side.

The old lady didn't want to be lectured by her granddaughter, and don't think she didn't see that the maids next to her were trying hard to suppress their laughter, so she quickly changed the subject and said, "Oh dear, I haven't seen Mu Xia in a long time. Mu Xia looks so thin."

Upon hearing this, Li Muxia looked at the old lady. Although not as fat as Li Muxia, her figure could still be described as obese. She looked to be in her fifties, and judging from her clothes and appearance, she could be described as quite wealthy. Her appearance was kind and approachable. From the conversation just now, it was clear that this old lady had no airs and seemed easy to get along with.

If nothing unexpected happens, the old lady probably has high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar. Li Muxia glanced at Shangguan Jingye, thinking to herself that her chance to impress her future master had arrived.

Li Muxia looked at the old lady earnestly and said, "Muxia suddenly felt unwell a while ago. She was always dizzy, had tinnitus and palpitations, and even her memory had declined a lot. So Muxia studied medical books and learned that she might have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar caused by obesity. Therefore, Muxia prescribed herself a prescription to treat the three highs and high blood sugar. She also exercised every day to lose weight and controlled her diet to be mainly light. After persisting for about two months, her health has improved significantly, and all the previous symptoms have disappeared."

As a doctor, Li Muxia had encountered many patients in her previous life and naturally understood the importance of empathy. Only when patients felt the effects of treatment would they be more proactive in cooperating with the treatment.

At this moment, everyone present who knew about the old lady's health condition looked at Li Muxia, because the symptoms he described were exactly the old lady's current symptoms. When Shangguan Jingye, the doctor, heard the term "three highs" (high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol), he was immediately intrigued and quickly asked, "What are the three highs?"

Li Muxia, of course, understood the curiosity a doctor would have about diseases they didn't know. That's why he deliberately used words that didn't exist in this world, hoping to get Shangguan Jingye to ask him questions. This way, his apprenticeship wouldn't always be a passive process. Seeing that Shangguan Jingye had taken the bait, Li Muxia was overjoyed, but he didn't show it on his face. It seemed that today's apprenticeship would go much more smoothly.
