The Rise of a General's Daughter-in-Law Doctor

Chapter 12: Looking for a Master

And so, ever since the two sisters reconciled, Li Anran would come to see Li Muxia every day, sticking to her all the time, as if she wanted to make up for all the time she had missed in the past few years.

Li Anran found many of the things Li Muxia did novel and wondered how so many wonderful things had appeared in the outside world during his years of isolation. Little did he know, these things didn't belong to this world at all.

For example, right now, Li Muxia is teaching Li Anran yoga. Li Anran is very smart; he learned it after Li Muxia taught him only once. Looking at Li Anran's perfect yoga poses, Li Muxia's eyes widened with envy.

Li Anran loves practicing yoga and always feels refreshed after each session. Because Li Anran's health has weakened after falling into the water, Li Muxia specially designed a yoga routine to boost his immunity and encouraged him to practice it every day.

And so, Li Muxia and Li Anran spent every day together. Li Anran became even more clingy to Li Muxia than before. When Li Muxia read, Li Anran would quietly stay next to her looking at picture books, and sometimes she would share the funny parts with Li Muxia.

Li Muxia was looking at the book "Collection of Herbs" that Li Anran had given him. Li Anran said that the book belonged to his uncle, who was a doctor and had reportedly become a disciple of Bai Qingshi, the legendary medical sage. He had been traveling with the medical sage for many years and had only recently returned home.

When Li Anran heard that Li Muxia was looking for a medical book, he went back to the Shangguan Mansion, which was the maternal home of his second aunt and the residence of Shangguan Ling, the Minister of Personnel. He pestered his uncle so much that he borrowed the book for Li Muxia.

This was a very thick book. Li Muxia read it every day, and it took her more than twenty days to finish it. Although it was called a collection of herbs, it actually recorded more than a thousand kinds of herbs. Moreover, each herb was recorded in great detail, allowing Li Muxia to understand its effects at a glance.

Although Li Muxia had finished reading "The Complete Collection of Herbs," medicine was vast and profound, and simply knowing herbs was only the beginning of traditional Chinese medicine. Therefore, he really wanted to find a highly skilled medical master. He had heard that Li Anran's uncle's master was a medical sage. Since he was known as a medical sage, his medical skills must be top-notch. As the apprentice of a medical sage, his medical skills should also be excellent. Just as Li Muxia was thinking about how to persuade Li Anran's uncle to agree to take him as an apprentice, Li Anran arrived.

Li Anran arrived with her homemade yoga mat. Seeing Li Muxia stretching her legs while reading a medical book, she thought to herself, "Sister Xia has lost so much weight. She can even put her legs on the stone table to stretch by herself."

Li Muxia saw Li Anran approaching, put down her book, and laboriously moved her legs off the stone table. Cui'er stood beside her, fanning her, but didn't offer any help. This was Li Muxia's request; unless she asked for help, Hong'er and Cui'er shouldn't assist her. Seeing Li Muxia's change, they were all very gratified and happy.

Li Anran approached Li Muxia, but before he could even unfold the yoga mat, he heard Li Muxia ask him, "Ran'er, is your uncle still leaving?"

Li Anran thought a month was too short, and Li Muxia wouldn't be able to finish reading "The Compendium of Herbs," so he wanted Li Anran to ask his uncle for more time. He said somewhat awkwardly, "Uncle is only coming back for a month before leaving, so... so..."

As she spoke, she glanced at the "Collection of Herbs" in Li Muxia's hand.

Li Muxia could tell at a glance that he had misunderstood, and quickly explained, "I have already finished reading this book."

Hearing Li Muxia say this, Li Anran felt relieved; otherwise, he really wouldn't know how to refuse Sister Xia.

Seeing her relieved expression, Li Muxia continued, "Ran'er, this book has been a great help to me, so I would like to thank my uncle in person. Could you take me to the Shangguan Mansion to pay my respects to him?"

Hearing that he only wanted to express his gratitude in person, Li Anran patted her chest and said, "Sister Xia, leave this to me. I'm going to see my grandfather tomorrow, so why don't you come with me, Sister Xia?"

Li Muxia nodded repeatedly, and seeing Li Anran patting her chest, she jokingly said, "Okay, stop patting, or it'll all be gone."

Li Anran still didn't understand what was gone.

Seeing Li Muxia staring at his chest, his face flushed instantly. He covered his chest with his hands and pretended to be angry, saying, "Sister Xia, you...you're being indecent!"

Seeing Li Anran's embarrassed expression, Li Muxia burst into hearty laughter. She was truly growing to love her adorable little cousin more and more.

While practicing yoga, Li Muxia and Li Anran inquired about Shangguan Jingye, Li Anran's maternal uncle and the youngest son of the Minister of Personnel.

"Ran'er, tell me about your uncle, like how old he is, what he likes and dislikes, his family situation, etc. I'm going to visit him tomorrow, so I don't want to know nothing and offend him." After all, she's going to become his apprentice, so of course she needs to know something about her future master.

While practicing yoga, Li Anran said, "My uncle went out to study medicine a long time ago, before I was even born. I first met him when I was five years old. He would come back once a year for Chinese New Year, so I don't know him very well. But don't worry, he's a very nice and gentle person, and he always has a smile on his face. He's easy to get along with, so you don't need to be afraid, Sister Xia."

Li Muxia couldn't get any useful information from Li Anran, but he did understand that Shangguan Jingye was a very kind person. Now he had to find a way to get Shangguan Jingye to take him as a disciple.

And so, with a heavy heart, Li Muxia accompanied Li Anran through the yoga practice. As soon as Li Anran finished the last set of poses, Li Muxia began to tidy up his yoga mat, saying as he did so, "Ran'er, hurry up and tidy up, wash off the sweat, okay? We're going shopping together later." He needed to prepare a sincere gift for his future master; that way, his chances of successfully becoming her disciple would be higher.

Li Anran didn't delay. Seeing Li Muxia's anxiety, she assumed Li Muxia had something she urgently needed to buy, so she nodded repeatedly, took her yoga mat, and led Chunxing back to pack.

Li Muxia quickly asked Cui'er and Hong'er to prepare bathing supplies for him. She was overweight, so she sweated even more when she exercised, and this time her clothes were stuck to her skin.
