Another World: The Failed Magician

Chapter 1 Frunze Academy

A sudden downpour swept through the town of Carlos, and pedestrians on the street fled as quickly as possible.

In no time, the once bustling street was deserted except for an old man and a young boy.

The boy had black hair and black eyes, with distinctly Eastern features, while the old man had azure eyes and sparse white hair. The old man's tall figure with muscles like small mountains stood next to the seemingly frail boy, like a giant bear and a squirrel.

The strange pair seemed oblivious to the torrential rain pouring down from the sky, standing firmly on the street. But if someone were to observe them closely, they would notice that not a single raindrop had fallen on them.

The boy waved the wooden sign in the pouring rain. The sign clearly read "Frunze Academy." As he waved the sign, he said weakly, "Don't miss out! The century-old prestigious Frunze Academy is recruiting. You won't regret it if you enroll now!"

In the pouring rain, the boy recited strange recruitment words, while the old man beside him listened to the boy's words and his face turned ashen with anger.

Then the old man slapped the boy on the head and said, "I asked you to come up with the recruitment slogan, and this is what you said?"

The boy replied, feeling wronged, "Dean, you can't blame me for this. Who would go out in such a heavy rain? I think we should just call it a day and come back tomorrow."

The old man's face darkened upon hearing the boy's answer. Although he knew that this weather was indeed inappropriate for recruiting students, the boy's actions a few days ago had filled him with rage.

The old man slapped the boy's head hard again and said irritably, "The weather was nice the other day, so I asked you to come out and recruit students. You were either in the teahouse or the tavern. Today, old man, I'm going to stay here with you. If we don't recruit any students today, neither of us is leaving."

Upon hearing the old man's words, the boy pleaded, "Please, Dean, please forgive me. You must understand that student recruitment can't be rushed. It's just that our time hasn't come yet, you know? This thing is very mysterious. Without the right connection, no matter how long we wait, it won't make a difference. I believe that if we go back and rest for a few days, when the time is right, we will naturally recruit students."

Upon hearing the boy's words, the old man sneered and replied, "Oh! So you, a magician, can also tell fortunes?" His tone carried a hint of hostility.

The boy didn't detect any intention to leave from the old man's words. So the boy gave up, placed the wooden sign beside him, leaned against the wall, and slowly closed his eyes, looking drowsy.

The old man was furious at the boy's appearance, but then he looked at the torrential rain falling from the sky and probably realized that there was no chance of success today.

The old man sighed softly and said in a conciliatory tone, "You little brat, get up! I'm leaving. I'll come back to recruit students tomorrow."

Upon hearing the old man's words, the boy immediately stood up, his previous drowsy appearance vanishing. He snapped his fingers, and the wooden sign on the ground disappeared.

The boy immediately turned around, put his hands behind his head, and strolled forward leisurely, saying, "I knew our Dean was the most understanding person!"

The old man grew angrier the more he looked at the boy. Just as he was about to say something, he suddenly noticed footsteps amidst the torrential rain, a sound that normal people couldn't perceive.

The old man turned around and looked in the direction of the footsteps.

After a while, the quiet environment behind him aroused the boy's doubts. Based on past experience, the old man would definitely say something, but today it was unusually quiet.

The boy turned around curiously and saw that the old man, who looked like a polar bear, was holding a boy and a girl who looked to be about seven or eight years old.

Seeing the boy's surprised expression, the old man's face lit up with joy. He raised his head high, just like a general who had won a battle.

The old man laughed loudly in his gruff voice, "I knew we'd recruit students today! Hahaha!"

The boy snapped his fingers, and an invisible barrier appeared around the two children, preventing the rain from falling on them. The children's clothes, which had been soaked, gradually dried. After doing this, the boy looked at the two children in the old man's arms and shook his head helplessly, saying, "They met a rough old man like you. I don't know if it's good luck or bad luck for them!"

After saying this, the boy turned around and walked forward.

The old man said with dissatisfaction, "Old man, what's wrong with me? Meeting me today is the greatest blessing of their lives." As he spoke, the old man lowered his head and looked at the two children who were already fast asleep in his arms. A silly smile spread across the face of this bear-like old man.
