Marrying the Crown Prince

Chapter 12: The Gone Heyday, Peril Abounds

Zhang could only shout loudly for Zhou Bai, asking him to take good care of his younger siblings.

After running about half a block, a few children bumped into the procession of the Hundred Gods. They all stopped on the side of the street and looked at the jumping gods.

Just then, a group of people appeared out of nowhere, barging in while cursing and swearing.

Zhou Zhou knew something was wrong. She only had time to pull Zhou Yue, who was closest to her, back to hide in a small corner.

Sizhu followed closely behind, protecting Zhou Zhou and Zhou Yue. The three of them huddled together in a corner.

The others were forced to move with the crowd, and by the time Zhou Bai and his group managed to get away, Zhou Zhou and Zhou Yue were nowhere to be seen.

Fortunately, no one was injured.

As for Zhou Zhou, after waiting for about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, and after the crowd had left with Bai Shen, she finally released Zhou Yue from her arms and checked her over from head to toe, asking, "Are you injured?"

Zhou Yue shook her head. "Sister, I'm fine. How about you?"

"No problem."

The little girl was so soft and cute. Zhou Zhou's heart melted again, and he reached out to pat her little head.

Then Zhou Zhou looked at Si Zhu and asked with concern, "Are you injured somewhere?"

In the chaos, Sizhu was stepped on, causing her to wince in pain.

Fortunately, I recovered after a while.

Si Zhu smacked his lips a few times, "What was that thing that suddenly barged in, pushing and shoving? It's probably rushing to be reincarnated."

Zhou Zhou also felt that what had just happened was a bit strange, and the worst possibility she guessed was that it was a human trafficker.

Thinking of this, she pinched her palm to force herself to calm down.

The current situation is a mix of good news and bad news.

The good news is that none of the three were seriously injured; the bad news is that they got separated from the main group.

Although Zhou Zhou had gone out a few times, he had almost always stayed in the carriage and didn't know the way back to the mansion at all.

If Zhou Zhou isn't mentioned, then Zhou Yue and Si Zhu are even less likely to be.

Sizhu was, after all, a twelve-year-old girl. After realizing the current situation, her expression became visibly tense, as if she had lost her composure. "Miss, what should we do now?"

"I remember we got off the carriage at Guangping Street. It's always right to wait for someone there." Zhou Zhou was much calmer, simply because she had a good memory and remembered the way back to Guangping Street.

So Zhou Zhou led the little child toward the carriage, strolling leisurely through the roadside stalls, not at all like a child who had gotten separated from their parents.

Under her influence, Zhou Yue's initial fear subsided, and whenever she saw a vendor making sugar paintings, she would drag Zhou Zhou along to watch.

As soon as the vendor saw customers, he greeted them without stopping, "Hello, ladies! Would you like some sugar paintings? My sugar paintings are great, delicious and beautiful, and I can make any style you like."

Zhou Yue's eyes lit up as she looked at Zhou Zhou.

Zhou Zhou reached into his sleeve and found his purse; thankfully, it hadn't fallen out. "Go ahead."

We have money!

With Zhou Zhou's permission, Zhou Yue pointed to a candied rabbit design and said in a childish voice, "I want one of these."

"Alright, young lady, once I finish making this 'Magpie Welcoming the New Year', I'll make your 'Jade Rabbit Gazing at the Moon'." The vendor readily agreed.

Zhou Zhou smiled, finding it quite interesting. "That's a rather unique name."

“To be honest, young lady,” the vendor said, his dark face flushing red, making him look even darker, “I’m a rough man and don’t know anything about these things. These names were chosen by the village schoolteacher.”

Soon, Zhou Yue got the little rabbit she wanted and took Zhou Zhou's hand to walk away together.

Looking into her bright eyes, Zhou Zhou felt that she must like the sugar painting, but why wasn't she eating it?

Thinking this way, I just blurted it out.

"I can't bear to part with it." The little girl's eyebrows curved into crescents, and her eyes were moist.

"It's okay, we can come out and buy it again in the future," Zhou Zhou comforted her.

For example, we can definitely go out again for the Lantern Festival.

Zhou Yue shook her head again, "I won't eat."

Well, it's good that the kid can resist temptation.

Then, Zhou Yue, who was holding a sugar painting, saw the fish and dragon lantern stall and her eyes lit up again.

This item has a good meaning and looks festive, so Zhou Zhou immediately decided to buy three: one for Zhou Yue, and the other two for Zhou Heng and Gao Yunxi.

The vendor, who only had three small fish-dragon lanterns left to close up shop, immediately beamed with joy. "Young lady, you've come at just the right time! I only have these three of my most exquisite and best-made lanterns left."

Just as Zhou Zhou was about to take out his money, an arrogant and rude voice interrupted, "I want this fish-dragon lantern."

They don't come when they're supposed to, and they all come in droves when they're not. The vendor silently rolled his eyes, but remained respectful on the surface. "Miss, what bad luck, the fish and dragon lanterns are all sold out."

"What nonsense are you talking about? Aren't there still three left?" The woman was not very old, probably around ten years old, with hairpins and ornaments in her hair, which jingled as she walked.

“This young lady has already taken these three,” the vendor replied.

Li Zixiao raised her chin and said to Zhou Zhou, "I'll take one of these fish-dragon lanterns, and the other two are yours."

This commanding tone successfully enraged Zhou Yue. "These three are all ours!"

"Hmph, it's your honor that I've taken a liking to your stuff." Li Zixiao was also furious, pointing at Zhou Yue's nose and scolding her.

Zhou Yue mimicked her, raising her chin and retorting, "Really? Should I get an incense burner and enshrine you?"

"You dare curse me?" Li Zixiao was furious and pounced on him like a shrew. "I'm going to tear your mouth apart."

Zhou Zhou calmly pulled Zhou Yue aside and then protected her behind him. "The sage governs the country with benevolence. I imagine that the princes and princesses are all favored by their relatives and friends, and they will certainly not bully others with their power."

Seeing that Zhou Zhou had guessed her identity but showed no fear, and even dared to use her father, the Emperor, to intimidate her, Li Zixiao dared not make any rash moves. "Which family are you from?"

“All sons of Heaven are sons of sages.” Zhou Zhou smiled innocently.

"You!" Li Zixiao gritted her teeth, but she couldn't do anything about them. She could only snort coldly and leave.

Seeing the person leave, Zhou Zhou breathed a sigh of relief, because if Li Zixiao really didn't have a brain, and she fought against her huge group of servants, his side would have no chance of winning at all.

Then Zhou Zhou saw Zhou Yue squatting on the ground, looking aggrieved.

She helped the person up and then realized that Zhou Yue's sugar painting had fallen to the ground in the chaos.

"Okay, let's go buy a new one later," Zhou Zhou comforted him gently.

"No need," Zhou Yue replied sullenly.

This look...

It was clearly not for sugar painting.

"What's wrong?"
