After time travel, share a space with your modern family.

Chapter 75 introduces the renovation of a new house.

After the housewarming feast, they could move into the new house. The master bedroom's bed and furniture were all newly made, and the guest rooms also had some simple furnishings. Everything was ready, so Ruan Mumu and her family could stay in the new house tonight.

Originally, Ruan Mumu and his family planned to store the furniture from the Ruan family ancestral hall in the rear room as spares, but now it was perfect for the Chen family elders to use. With the help of the villagers, the belongings of Ruan Mumu's family in the ancestral hall were quickly retrieved.

After the banquet was finished and the house was cleaned up, it was already nightfall, and all the villagers had gone home.

Chen Donghua and Ruan Mumu led the tired elderly couple of the Chen family to the east wing, with Qiao Tinghao following behind, as if he had gotten used to it and that wherever Ruan Mumu was, he would be there too.

"Dad, Mom, you'll be living in this little courtyard from now on. If you need anything, just let us know. From now on, this is your home." Chen Donghua held Old Mrs. Chen's hand; she hadn't seen her parents for many years.

Ruan Mumu turned on the LED light hanging on the wall by the door, and the room instantly became bright. Qiao Tinghao habitually took the light and hung it on the hook that hung from the beam in the middle of the room.

"Hey... Mumu, what is this thing? It's so bright." Old Chen asked his granddaughter, looking at the white light emanating from it.

"Grandpa, this is called an electric light. Isn't it bright? This thing is very convenient to use, much better than candles or anything like that." As Ruan Mumu introduced it, she took another spare LED light from the wall and taught the elderly couple how to use it.

Ruan Mumu then quietly took out a flashlight from her spatial storage and handed it to them.

"What is this thing?" Grandma Chen asked curiously, and turned on the flashlight as Ruan Mumu had instructed.

"Grandma, this is called a flashlight. Mumu gave it to you so you can use it when you get up at night," Qiao Tinghao explained from the side.

“Yes, Grandma, if you feel the light bulb and flashlight are a bit dim, remember to let me know and I’ll bring you brighter ones,” Ruan Mumu added.

The elderly couple smiled with satisfaction as they watched the bright lights illuminate even the corners of the room.

"Mom, let's go take a look at the bathroom!" Chen Donghua said excitedly, pulling on Old Mrs. Chen's hand. "And let you see all these new things."

The group went to a small room next to the main house, where an electric light was installed and hung on the wall by the door.

The small room has been divided into partitions. In front of it is a washbasin built with bricks. The sink has a cement-coated surface that is fairly smooth. There are spaces in the wall for installing a mirror, but Ruan Mumu will have to wait until she meets her modern family again and give them the dimensions to have it custom-made.

The cubicle was further divided by a wall, with a bath tub on one side and a squat toilet on the other.

Upon seeing the squat toilet, Old Man Chen asked curiously, "Lan'er, what is this?"

“Dad, this small room is called the toilet, and this is called a squat toilet. We squat on this to relieve ourselves. Remember to flush it down with water when you’re done. The brush and that thing over there, Mumu said, are for cleaning the toilet. They need to be cleaned regularly, every two or three days.” Chen Donghua explained the items while helping her mother.

"I don't need to explain the bathtub there, right? Oh... wait, I forgot to mention, there's a drain in that tub. Remember to plug it when you use it, and pull out the cork after you're done so the water can drain out through that hole. Also, see that thing over there?" Chen Donghua pointed to the faucet next to the bathtub and said, "Mumu, what's that called again? I can't remember right now."

"Grandpa and Grandma, this is called a faucet. You see, just pull it to the right and the water will flow out automatically. When you don't need it, pull it to the left to turn off the water." Ruan Mumu explained while demonstrating. "There's a faucet in the bathroom too, and it works the same way. The faucet at the washbasin outside is the same."

When the elderly couple saw these novel things and the clean and bright bathroom, they were very happy for their daughter, thinking that her family was living in very good conditions.

"Lan'er, this room is so nice, you should stay here! We old folks will just stay in the row of houses that come in through the main gate," said Old Man Chen.

“Dad, this is how all the master rooms are in our house! Mumu and I live in the north-facing room, and we each have a small courtyard. There are two small courtyards in the east wing. You and Dad live here, and Hao’er lives in the courtyard next to yours. Xiaojun and Xiaohai each have one courtyard in the west wing.” Chen Donghua explained to the elderly couple while helping Chen Laotai up.

"Lan'er, you built such a big courtyard, it must have cost a lot of money, right?" Old Mrs. Chen asked.

"Grandma, don't worry, I have ways to make money. You just need to relax and enjoy your retirement at home," Ruan Mumu said with a smile, putting her arm around Grandma Chen's arm.

“Yes, Grandpa and Grandma, you don’t need to worry about money. Any one of these things in our house is worth a lot of money! Mumu has plenty of ways to make money,” Qiao Tinghao chimed in.

"Mumu, where did you get so many things?" Old Chen asked curiously. Although he was old, his mind was still clear, and he knew that these things couldn't have appeared out of thin air.

"Grandpa and Grandma, I encountered some things recently, and then I got a magical treasure. It contains many things we've never seen before, and there are some things I don't know how to use, so I haven't taken them out yet." Ruan Mumu explained the explanation she had been thinking about these past few days, hoping they would really believe her! Actually, she didn't know if this explanation was reasonable, but for now, this was the only way she could say it.

"It seems your father saw how hard you've had it and is giving you a better life in another way! We're old and still blessed by you, hehehe..." Old Mrs. Chen said with a smile. She felt it was God's favor that allowed them to enjoy such happiness in their later years.

"Dad, Mom, I always thought you didn't want to see me. In previous years, every time I went back, my sister-in-law would kick me out at the gate. They thought it was because of me that Xiaojun's father passed away, so I never dared to go back to see you. I didn't even tell you when the house was built this time." Chen Donghua felt a pang of guilt thinking about how she hadn't been able to visit her elderly parents for so many years.

"Silly child, don't you know your sister-in-law? We haven't been able to do much work these past few years, so we haven't dared to ask to come and see you." Old Mrs. Chen felt bad thinking about how she hadn't seen her daughter in all these years and couldn't help her at all.

"Grandpa, Grandma, Mom, let's not talk about the past. Let's live a good life from now on. I will make sure your lives get better and better." Ruan Mumu hugged Grandma Chen and Chen Donghua, comforting them.

Everyone present nodded, saying they believed that things would get better and better in the future.
