After time travel, share a space with your modern family.

Chapter 37 Ruan Yanyan Knows About Space

Ruan Mumu didn't have time to miss her family in the modern world, nor did she have much time to enter the space, because there were a lot of things to do in the ancient world.

After Ruan Wanfu and Zhang Yufang returned to their old house in the countryside, they were full of energy every day. In the morning, the two of them would stroll around the village roads, greet the villagers, and chat with them. The morning would pass by in no time.

After lunch, they would rummage through the house, tidy up, and then take a nap. The afternoon would pass quickly with tea and reading. As evening approached, they would busy themselves in the kitchen, figuring out what to cook. Occasionally, they would go to the city in the afternoon, mainly because they needed to prepare something for their daughter.

Several days had passed in the blink of an eye. Ruan Wanfu and Zhang Yufang found nothing unusual at home, and Wu Ma also found nothing missing. However, this calm did not bring them peace of mind; instead, it made them increasingly uneasy.

"Honey, these past few days have been so peaceful at home, but I'm actually feeling a little uneasy," Zhang Yufang quietly confided to Ruan Wanfu after waking up from her afternoon nap.

Ruan Wanfu glanced at the clock hanging in the room; it showed August 5th. He sighed softly and comforted his wife, "Don't worry too much. The child probably has a lot to take care of over there. We just need to wait patiently for the 15th. If we have any questions, we can ask her directly then."

Zhang Yufang nodded slightly, but the worry in her eyes hadn't completely disappeared. She was silent for a moment, then asked, "Honey, I've read two time-travel novels these past few days. The plots are indeed a bit exaggerated, but they're really exciting to read. I read the farming kind, and judging from Mumu's clothes, she's probably from a farming family. I just never expected that our Mumu would also encounter this kind of time-travel plot. This is truly a blessing from God! It's just a pity that our Mumu has encountered misfortune at such a young age and can only live a difficult life there. These past few days, I've been thinking about what we should prepare for Mumu. We don't have much power to make her live a wealthy life here, but in her ancient times, everything we have now is a rare commodity, right?"

As he spoke, a smile appeared on his face, a smile as warm as the spring sun and as gentle as a summer breeze.

Looking at his wife's radiant smile, Ruan Wanfu's heart was filled with joy. Their children had all grown up and had their own lives, but the couple now spent every day together, enjoying this simple life, and were incredibly happy and content.

Just as the two were immersed in this blissful moment, a gentle knock on the door broke the afternoon's tranquility.

Then a young man's voice came: "Dad, Mom, I'm back. Are you inside?"

The two were about to wake up from their afternoon nap when they heard a knock on the door, so they slowly sat up. Zhang Yufang heard the familiar voice outside the door and her face lit up with joy. She quickly replied, "Yan Yan is back."

As she spoke, she quickly put on her slippers and hurriedly walked to the door to open it.

When Zhang Yufang opened the door, a familiar face appeared before her eyes—it was her youngest son, Ruan Yanyan.

Ruan Yanyan smiled, her eyes sparkling with warmth. Zhang Yufang was overjoyed and asked with a beaming smile, "Yanyan, didn't you say you were going on a trip with your classmates during the holidays? Why are you back so soon?"

Ruan Yanyan gently hugged his mother, feeling her warmth and care. He replied softly, "I thought I should come back and spend more time with you! I went back to the city first, but my older brother and sister-in-law said that you and Dad came back to live in the countryside, so I came back here to find you."

"You little rascal, at least you have some conscience," Ruan Wanfu said, patting Ruan Yanyan on the shoulder.

Ruan Yanyan chuckled and scratched his head.

"Mom and Dad, aren't you living perfectly well in the city? Why do you insist on coming back to live here?" Ruan Yan asked, puzzled. He was actually quite worried that his parents would be reminded of his sister's things when they came back, and that facing those things every day would probably make them sad for a long time. But he didn't want to ask them directly, for fear of upsetting them.

Seeing his conflicted expression, Zhang Yufang knew what he was thinking, so she decided to talk to her youngest son about their daughter's situation as well.

So he said to him, "Yan Yan, go downstairs and tell Aunt Wu that you want to eat her cooking. Tell her to go ahead and get busy. Your dad and I have something to say to you later."

Ruan Yanyan obediently went downstairs to find Aunt Wu, and quickly returned to her room, closing the door behind her. She then sat down on the sofa at the foot of the bed, adjusted to a comfortable position, and slowly asked, "Mom and Dad, is there anything you want to tell me?"

Looking at his casual demeanor, Zhang Yufang couldn't help but laugh and said, "Look at you, can't you be serious for once?"

Ruan Yanyan shrugged and said innocently, "What did I do wrong?"

Ruan Wanfu coughed, cleared his throat, and then said, "Yan Yan, there's an important reason why we're coming back to live here. You'll understand when you hear it."

Ruan Wanfu then sat down not far from Ruan Yanyan and quietly told her how they had accidentally stumbled into Ruan Mumu's space and met her a few days ago in this old house, how Wu Ma had become suspicious about the missing items in the house, and then about the time they had arranged to meet Ruan Mumu again...

"Dad...haha...Dad...haha...you're so funny, what kind of joke is that..." Ruan Yanyan laughed uncontrollably.

"You brat, what kind of joke am I talking about? Would your old man joke like that with you? I'm being serious!" Ruan Wanfu slapped Ruan Yanyan on the back in anger.

"Dad, are you hallucinating?" Ruan Yanyan questioned again.

"Come on, take a look at your dad's belly, is it still there?" Ruan Wanfu said, standing up to show him his belly, which used to look like he was seven or eight months pregnant, but now only a little bit of a belly remained.

Ruan Yanyan looked at Ruan Wanfu's smaller belly with suspicion and asked, "Dad, you didn't deliberately suck in your stomach?" After saying that, she touched it with her hand.

Ruan Wanfu slapped his hand away: "Go away, why would I deliberately pull in my stomach? Besides, you can observe it yourself. Can pulling in your stomach last this long? I'm not lying to you, my stomach really has shrunk. I drank half a cup of spiritual spring water."

Then Ruan Wanfu pointed at Zhang Yufang's face: "Look at your mother's face, can't you even see a wrinkle? And you can hardly see any gray hair?"

Ruan Yanyan moved closer to Zhang Yufang and carefully looked at her mother's face. Her smooth and delicate skin didn't look like that of someone in their early fifties at all; she looked like a woman in her early thirties. She also glanced at her jet-black hair and couldn't see any gray hairs. She had noticed that her mother had quite a few gray hairs when her sister passed away last time!

"No wonder I felt something was different about Mom earlier. She's become younger and more beautiful," Ruan Yanyan murmured to herself.

"Did you believe what I said was true?" Ruan Wanfu looked at his youngest son with a smug expression.

"Dad, I still can't quite believe it." Ruan Yanyan was still a little uncertain, but he had no choice but to accept the facts before him.

Ruan Wanfu then gave a brief account of Ruan Mumu's current situation over there, and then said, "Your sister is only thirteen years old over there..."

After Ruan Wanfu finished saying what he wanted to say, Ruan Yanyan was completely stunned. He even doubted whether he was dreaming, so he reached out and slapped his face hard. Only when he felt the pain on his face did he finally realize that everything happening in front of him was real.

"Dad, what you just said means... that my sister's soul actually traveled to another world and is living there?" Ruan Yan asked softly, trying to lower her voice.

Ruan Wanfu smiled and nodded in agreement.

"So that means we can see my sister once a month from now on?" Ruan Yanyan was still a little incredulous, but her eyes were already shining with excitement.

Nguyen Van Phu nodded again, his eyes firm and full of love.

Ruan Yanyan could no longer remain calm; he was so excited he almost jumped for joy. His teachers had always taught them to believe in science and not to be superstitious about ghosts and spirits, but now it seemed all those beliefs had been overturned. He couldn't wait to share his joy with someone, but gradually he calmed down. After all, anyone would think such a fantastical story was just a pipe dream; it was best to keep it to himself.

"Yan Yan, you absolutely mustn't tell anyone else about this, or everyone will think our whole family has gone crazy," Zhang Yufang solemnly warned.

"Don't worry, Mom, I won't tell anyone," Ruan Yanyan replied just as earnestly.

"Yan Yan, can you help me think of something? There are only nine days left until our agreed meeting, and we don't know what to prepare. Your sister's family over there is probably quite poor, and we need to find a way to make things a little better for her," Zhang Yufang said again.

"Mom, let me think about this... Sigh, such a big thing, and none of you even called to tell me. If I hadn't come back, were you planning not to take me with you to meet my sister?" Ruan Yanyan said with some dissatisfaction.

Ruan Wanfu and Zhang Yufang remained silent. If Ruan Yanyan hadn't returned at this time, they really would have planned to do so. After all, their youngest son had promised to go on a trip with his classmates. If they couldn't see each other the first time, there would be a second time!

"Never mind, I'm back anyway, so I'll stay home and keep you company for a while. Dad, Mom, I'm going back to my room to rest for a bit. Call me for dinner, okay?" Ruan Yanyan said, then got up and went back to her room.
