Stella hadn't visited the Eugene family for at least two or three hundred years since Daniel's death.

Even the Fairy Forest changes its appearance every few years due to the growth of the trees, let alone the Eugene family, who have always lived there.

Whenever a new owner takes over or the house is renovated, some parts of the Eugene family home undergo a change.

Over the years, you could say this was a new house Stella had never visited before.

However, some fixed items still retain traces of the past.

For example, the orientation of the main building and some decorations that showcase the history of the Eugene family.

Although back in Eugene and Daniel's time, the Eugene family were newly rich from humble beginnings without even a surname, and were looked down upon by the true aristocracy.

But now that the Eugene family has combined the name Eugene with their surname, and after several marriages with the royal family of the Xuean Empire, no one can use their bloodline as an excuse anymore, so they have also been included in the ranks of nobles with a rich heritage.

Stella was enthusiastic about playing spot the difference, while Catherine assumed her curiosity stemmed from having stayed in the Elf Forest for so long and had never left, so she specially introduced it to her.

However, Stella kept her own settings in mind, and would fly around when there were no people around, but would hide when she encountered people.

Catherine noticed her "timidity" and treated her even more gently.

After walking around for a while, Catherine asked casually, "Teacher, we're almost at my place. Why don't you stay in my yard?"

Stella shook her head vigorously, moving further away from Catherine in a few moments.

Catherine quickly added, "If the teacher doesn't want to, that's fine too. The courtyard over there is already furnished, so you can stay wherever you want."

"Later, I'll have my father give the order that no outsiders are allowed to approach that area, so as not to disturb your peace, teacher, okay?"

Stella nodded. "I'm a little tired today. Catherine, if you want to ask me about magic, come find me tomorrow."

“Okay,” Catherine agreed, “thank you, teacher.”

Once no one was around in the courtyard, Stella didn't return to the Elf Forest. Instead, she waited until late at night, concealed her presence, and explored the entire Eugene family estate.

During the day, Catherine only took her to see a small part of the area; Stella needs to familiarize herself with it properly on her own.

Just as Stella was about to fly back to the treehouse, she noticed someone leaving Catherine's house and heading outside.

She recognized the woman as one of Catherine's maids and stopped, finding a secluded spot to see what she was up to so late at night.

The maid quietly walked to a secluded spot behind some flowers and trees in the corner of the courtyard and chirped a few times, mimicking the sound of a nightingale.

A moment later, a magician, wrapped in a magic robe and hiding himself very well, appeared furtively.

Without even asking, Stella recognized him at a glance; this was the same magician who had been driven away during the day.

Upon seeing the maid, the magician said anxiously, "Didn't you say before that nothing would happen? Now look what's happened. I did exactly what you wanted, belittling the Fifth Miss at every turn, but I've been fired by the Eugene family."

"The Eugene family has now declared that their businesses will absolutely not use me, nor will they be allowed to provide me with any assistance."

"Tell me, what should we do now?"

Stella raised an eyebrow, flew closer, and even found a suitable spot to sit down.

The maid didn't notice her; she just looked at the magician with a dismissive attitude: "I did say that, but how you do it is up to you."

"Why were all of Miss Wu's former teachers properly sent away, but you were the only one who was kicked out? The problem is of course with yourself."

The magician suddenly looked up, and his hood slipped down to the back.

She looked at the maid in disbelief: "Are you saying I deserved it?"

“How could that be?” the maid sighed, her face full of pity. “As a teacher, you can suppress the Fifth Miss and call her stupid, but you can’t involve the Eugene family.”

“You broke a taboo today and were kicked out by the Fifth Miss. She even complained to the head of the family. No one can save you now. What can I, a mere maid, do?”

“You! Isn’t the Queen behind you? As long as the Queen is willing to lend me a hand, what is the Eugene family?” The magician stepped forward and reached for the maid’s hand.

The maid reacted quickly and dodged, saying, "Who are you to warrant the Queen's intervention?"

"If you want to serve under the Queen and seek her protection, you have to demonstrate your abilities. You can't even handle something as small as suppressing the Fifth Miss, yet you expect the Queen to have pity on you?"

The magician was determined to climb the social ladder, so he wasn't a fool who couldn't understand what was being said.

She sneered, "You were the ones who made me do this in the first place, and now that things have been exposed, you're the ones who are abandoning me. What, aren't you afraid I'll expose this?"

“Go ahead and make a scene, if you have the life to back it up,” the maid said with disdain, “If word gets out, people will just think you’ve lost your mind.”

"The Queen is high above, how could she possibly scheme against her future daughter-in-law?"

"But you've found a brilliant excuse for being kicked out of the Eugene family."

"Who would know about this? Wouldn't they think you deserved it?"

Stella watched as the magician, gradually calming down under the maid's words, tried to force a smile, but whose expression became twisted and ugly because he couldn't hide his disgust. Stella gently shook her head.

She's utterly useless; she's just a maid, and she can be easily frightened.

It's not easy to pull out the queen behind the scenes at this point, but it's much simpler to drag the maid in front of you into it and force her to find a way to profit.

For someone like this to become a high-level mage is basically the pinnacle of their abilities.

The magician, barely managing to calm down, pleaded with the maid again: "Please persuade the Fifth Miss to give me a way out. Without the Eugene family's resources, I don't even have many materials left to make potions."

“What you said today touched a nerve with the Fifth Miss. She almost kicked me out too. I can’t help you,” the maid said, looking at the magician but still pointing her in a clear direction.

"You did help the Queen, so of course she wouldn't be so heartless."

“I heard that the Queen’s family, the Erskines, are hiring. Why don’t you give it a try?”

“What recruitment?” the magician exclaimed, his eyes wide. “The Erskine family recruits mercenaries to die in the Dark Forest. What’s the difference between sending me to the Erskine family now and sending me to my death!”

The Erskine family has assembled a team and sent them into the Dark Forest.

The struggle between the maid and the magician continued, but Stella was no longer able to hear it.

The Erskine family has a much longer history than the Eugene family and has very close ties with royal families around the world. If they have taken such action, what about the human royal families?

Wouldn't they find out more about the situation and make a choice?

Of course, the most important thing right now is to figure out why the Erskine family went to the Dark Forest.

That's not a good place.

While Stella was pondering, the maid and the magician below reached a conclusion.

The magician refused to go to the Erskines' house and demanded that the maid directly compensate him with money.

She was, after all, a high-level mage. Although she might not stand out in the royal city, she was a privileged person in some remote little places.

Given enough resources, she still has a chance to advance further.

The magician, being pragmatic, only sought money, and the maid relented, saying she would send a message to have her collect the money from the Erskines' house in three days.

Stella's ears twitched, and she gave the maid below a deep look.

The only difference between going to the Erskines' house to collect money and going to the Erskines' house to register is the name of the activity.

This magician can only gamble on the Erskine family's conscience, on the fact that they only want willing mercenaries.

Otherwise, what's the difference between a magician who goes to collect compensation and a pathfinder who comes to their door?
