Quick Transmigration: Survive to the End
Chapter 457 World 817
The 21st day of the first lunar month is an auspicious day for weddings.
When a caravan from out of town arrived in Yangliao, they saw that everyone's faces were beaming with joy and asked curiously, "Old man, is there some happy occasion in the city?"
"It's a joyous occasion, a very joyous occasion," the old man he was asked of said with a smile. "The Prince of Yangliao is getting married, and our local wealthy Chu family is giving away their daughter. Isn't this a rare and joyous occasion?"
"The Chu family," the man asked again, "is it the Chu family that has such a large business? Do they have daughters?"
“It’s that Chu family,” the old man replied. “They only have this one girl.”
"I see," the man said, looking at the lively scene before him, somewhat puzzled. "Isn't the Chu family a merchant family? Why are they holding such a grand wedding? Aren't they afraid the princess will be angry?"
The old man turned his head and looked him up and down for a while: "You're not from Li Kingdom, are you? Our prince is marrying a princess, how can it not be a grand affair?"
The man was somewhat surprised. How could the old man tell that he wasn't a native of this country from just a few words?
He didn't dare linger any longer and quickly returned to the group.
The old man didn't pay much attention, because the royal wedding procession came out with music and fanfare.
When King Yangliao was overjoyed, he was in high spirits and could see a smile on everyone he met.
The people of Yangliao don't pay heavy taxes, so they're happy to come up and say a few auspicious words, ask for some candy, or receive a small reward.
Inside the Chu family's fortified village, the eldest sister-in-law was busy directing and coordinating. Seeing that it was almost time, she hurried to Yin Yin's room.
Girls from the same clan in the village came to see the bride, and they all complimented her, saying, "Yinyin is so beautiful. When she lifts her veil, won't she make the prince completely infatuated?"
Upon seeing this, the elder sister-in-law quickly said, "Everything is ready. The messenger said that the prince and his entourage have already left the city."
The girls inside, eager to see what was going on, rushed out in a swarm, giving the eldest sister-in-law a chance to speak with Yinyin alone for a while.
“Although you are marrying a prince, you are bringing so much dowry with you, and your family is from the local area, so you must not let him bully you,” the sister-in-law said earnestly.
"Although the prince seems to be treating you well now, no one can say for sure what will happen in the future. You should be careful in everything you do, so that you don't suffer any injustice."
Yinyin knew her sister-in-law was worried: "Sister-in-law, do you not know me? I've been managing the family business since I was a child, and I'm the one who's least willing to suffer losses."
As she spoke, she deliberately raised her chin proudly: "Now Father has given me half of the properties in Yangliao. If I am unhappy, he will not have anything to eat or use."
The sister-in-law chuckled after hearing this and continued, "If you want him to have nothing to eat, you can't just eat it all yourself. Remember to tell him when you get home that he's not allowed to eat the other half either."
“That won’t do,” Yin Yin said mischievously. “A prince can’t starve to death in his own fiefdom. So I’m not allowed to sell anything to him, but you, brother and sister-in-law, can sell your half, but you have to raise the price. Sell him something that normally costs one or two coins for one or two taels of silver, and then all his money will end up in our hands.”
The older sister-in-law knew she was just joking, but she was indeed comforted and gently patted her hand: "That's right, I'd rather you bully him than let him bully you."
Yinyin took her sister-in-law's hand and said, "Don't worry, I might come back with people in a few days. I'll be living at home for most of the year. If you miss me, you can just walk up and see me, just like now."
Yinyin didn't say anything to test her, like she was afraid that if she saw too much of this, she would be disliked in the future. Although her sister-in-law gave birth late, she had been married into the family for several years and raised her like a daughter.
She has that much confidence, so there's no need for her to say anything that might hurt their feelings.
The two whispered a few more private words before the wedding procession arrived.
Although Chu's father really wanted to go to the door to make things difficult for Fu Yuanzhou, he had to maintain the airs of his father-in-law and could only send his eldest son and some capable young men from the clan.
Fu Yuanzhou had anticipated this, so he specially gathered some scholars and guards, which could be considered a mix of both literary and martial talents.
However, the questions posed by the Chu family were clever and they were based on a lot of life experience; anyone who was not familiar with everyday affairs would not be able to answer them.
Although he had been eagerly anticipating seeing Yin Yin, he was only allowed to enter by Chu Yun when it was almost time to do so.
Yinyin was carried out of the house by her older brother, who gave her a few more words of advice before telling her to sit in the bridal sedan chair.
The subsequent marriages all followed the procedures provided by Jingzhong, with someone offering guidance at almost every step.
Yinyin didn't miss a single step, which made the eunuch sent by the emperor from the capital nod in approval.
Fu Yuanzhou was the Prince of Yangliao, and no relatives came specifically for him. Apart from the Chu family, no one dared to force him to drink, much less disturb his wedding night.
Chu Yun felt sorry for his sister and didn't make things difficult for him, so when he came over, he only smelled slightly of alcohol and was still quite sober.
But his lucidity only lasted until he saw Yin Yin.
Upon seeing Yin Yin, who looked even more beautiful in her wedding attire under the lamplight, Fu Yuanzhou suddenly felt the air in the room was a bit stuffy, making his breathing become somewhat rapid.
“Yinyin,” he slowly walked up to her, took her hand, and smiled somewhat foolishly, “you are finally my wife.”
As Yin Yin's beautiful eyes sparkled, she too felt a surge of joy: "Why did you drink so much? Go and wipe your face."
"I just smell a little alcohol, I didn't drink many glasses," Fu Yuanzhou couldn't help but kiss Yin Yin on the cheek. "I feel a little tipsy right now, all because I saw you."
"You're so glib," Yin Yin said, giving him a shy yet reproachful look.
Fu Yuanzhou swallowed hard and said in a hoarse voice, "It's late, Yinyin, let's rest."
The curtain hooks were loosened, and the curtain embroidered with auspicious patterns was lowered. The candle flames of the dragon and phoenix candles in the room burst open, making a crackling sound.
The maids who usually attend to him would have come in early to trim the candle wicks, but today they stood obediently outside the door, listening to the sounds inside without moving.
The dragon and phoenix candles burned until dawn. Yin Yin was awakened by her biological clock, and she opened her eyes sleepily, not wanting to get up at all. But if she was asked to go back to sleep for a while, she couldn't fall back asleep.
Fu Yuanzhou didn't want to get up at this moment. The scene he had been looking forward to for so long had come to life. He just wanted to hold his wife and lie there until the end of time, enjoying this moment of tranquility and peace.
Yinyin gently nudged him: "You're already awake, get up quickly. The eunuch sent by Father is still here. Should we put on a show in front of him first?"
“Don’t worry about him,” Fu Yuanzhou said. “Even if he goes back and talks nonsense, Father won’t take it to heart. It’s most important that we live comfortably.”
Despite saying that, Fu Yuanzhou still obediently got up, clearly still afraid of the emperor. Even though the emperor had only sent a eunuch, he didn't want to give anyone cause for gossip.
Yinyin knew he would make this choice, so she didn't laugh at him.
The eunuch, impatient to stay in Yangliao any longer, soon took his leave.
As soon as he left, Yin Yin, having become familiar with the affairs of the Prince's mansion, did not rush to interfere in the military and political affairs of Yangliao. Instead, she took Fu Yuanzhou and boarded a carriage to return to her parents' home.
Nothing else is urgent; the most important thing is to comfort the father who is longing for his daughter.
