Chu Yun woke up to a commotion. Still half asleep, she listened to the chaotic noise outside and felt a throbbing pain in her forehead.

She hastily threw on a robe, got out of bed to check on the situation, and lifted the beaded curtain. The sounds of arguing outside became clearer and clearer to Chu Yun's ears.

"Young Master Gu, our young lady is already resting. Please return." Chu Yun could vaguely recognize the voice as that of Qingxue, one of the maids Xiao Qi'an had given her.

Then came a familiar male voice, "I want to see her."

“Young Master Gu, how many times do I have to say it? It’s late at night, the dew is heavy, and there are many people around. The young lady will not see you. Please consider her reputation.” Qingxue’s voice rose a little.

"I want to see her." No matter how hard Qingxue tried to persuade him, the man only responded with four words, his voice hoarse and unpleasant.

"Young Master Gu, please don't make things difficult for us servants," Qingxue pleaded.

In Chu Yun's memory, this head maid was always well-mannered and neither servile nor arrogant. She was also a good helper that Xiao Qi'an had found for her. She never expected that Gu Huaizhi would push her to this point today.

Chu Yun hadn't misheard; the man's voice belonged to Gu Huaizhi. He had arrived at the door of Chu Yun's room a quarter of an hour earlier, and if it weren't for the maid outside the door stopping him, he would have rushed into Chu Yun's room long ago.

This usually gentle and polite young doctor, Gu, seemed to have gone mad for some unknown reason. Dressed only in a thin robe, he arrived at the door of an unmarried woman's room, declaring that he wanted to see Chu Yun.

How could Qingxue and the others let him in? They tried their best to stop him, they tried to persuade him, they tried to warn him, they tried to beg him, but this young master Gu could only repeat four words - I want to see her, as if he had hysteria.

Gu Huaizhi's subordinates also felt it was inappropriate and tried to persuade him repeatedly, but to no avail.

Because of Gu Huaizhi's insistence, the group was at a standstill at the door, and the noise was inevitably a bit loud, waking Chu Yun.

Chu Yun stood inside the room, listening to Qingxue's constant pleas, and then being rendered speechless by Gu Huaizhi's four-word truth. She knew that if she didn't leave soon, Gu Huaizhi would probably resort to violence.

She pulled her clothes tighter, took a cloak from the soft couch and draped it over herself, wrapping herself up completely, before pushing open the door.

squeak-

The sound of the door being pushed open startled the two groups of people outside who were locked in a stalemate and about to come to blows.

When Qingxue saw Chu Yun, her pupils contracted slightly. She subconsciously took a step forward, wanting to apologize to Chu Yun, but before she could take a step, a dark shadow darted past her.

By the time she realized it, the dark figure, Gu Huaizhi, was already the closest person to Chu Yun.

Gu Huaizhi stood a step or two in front of the steps, tilted his head slightly, and fixed his gaze on Chu Yun, who was standing at the door.

After a few days apart, she was still as beautiful and extraordinary as ever, and the short white fur trim around the collar of her cloak made her skin look even whiter than snow.

The appearance remained the same, but one thing had changed.

Gu Huaizhi clearly sensed that Chu Yun's gaze towards him had changed.

He still remembered that when they first met, she always had a cold face, and her eyes, which were as bright as stars, were always filled with ice. It was the coldest thing ever. It took him so long to make those eyes look at him with tenderness instead of icy coldness.

But now, Chu Yun's gaze was even colder than when they first met; besides being icy, it even carried a faint hint of disgust.

She looked down at him with disdain, as if he were an annoying insect, radiating coldness from within.

Gu Huaizhi couldn't help but tremble. He couldn't understand why Chu Yun's attitude towards him had changed so drastically in just a few days.

He was in a hurry to see her and hadn't figured out how to ask about the engagement. Seeing Chu Yun like this, he was both shocked and pained, and his mind was in complete chaos. He didn't know what to say to Chu Yun and just stared at her blankly, like a puppet without a soul.

"What are you here for?"

The woman's cold voice pulled Gu Huaizhi back to the painful reality. He opened his mouth, and a hoarse voice escaped from his throat, "I've come to see you."

Gu Huaizhi watched as Chu Yun sneered, her mocking tone like a sharp blade piercing his chest, almost killing him. "What's the point of you coming to see me now?"

Gu Huaizhi thought that Chu Yun meant that his marriage to Xiao Qi'an was a done deal, and that his presence would be of no use.

He didn't know what had happened, and could only ask in anguish, "Is there something troubling you?"

If there is some unspeakable hardship forcing you to agree to the marriage, please tell me, and I will do anything to help you, even at the cost of my life.

"Difficult reasons?" Chu Yun was taken aback at first, then seemed to understand something and couldn't help but laugh. "You think I agreed to marry the young master because I had other reasons? How ridiculous! How could you think that? I agreed to this marriage because I like the young master and want to marry him and be his proper wife."

"Impossible!" Gu Huaizhi retorted without even thinking.

"Why is it impossible? The young master is of noble character. Even if I like him, what's impossible about it?" Chu Yun sneered.

"But you clearly..."

Before Gu Huaizhi could finish speaking, Chu Yun's voice was even louder, "What do you mean? Are you trying to say I like you? Gu Huaizhi, you're overthinking it. I, Wen Chu Yun, have never liked you, not even a little bit."

The woman's almost cruel attitude and merciless words nearly killed Gu Huaizhi. He staggered and almost fell.

"Ah Yun, can you tell me what happened? Why do you look so different to me?" he said, his voice filled with anguish and helplessness.

"Perhaps it's just because you've never truly understood me, and I've never really known you either." Chu Yun's eyes glazed over slightly.

Gu Huaizhi gave a bitter smile, "Ayun, is that really what you think?"

"Yes, that's what I think," Chu Yun said coldly.

Gu Huaizhi had forgotten his original purpose. He originally wanted to ask Chu Yun about the engagement, but now he was so hurt by Chu Yun's heartless words that he couldn't even ask a complete question. He just trembled and stared stubbornly at Chu Yun.

He didn't know why things had turned out this way; Chu Yun seemed to have become a different person, denying all the affection between them.

"Ah Yun, can we...can we have a proper talk about what happened while I was away?" Gu Huaizhi pleaded.

"We have nothing to talk about. I've said everything I wanted to say," Chu Yun said coldly.

Gu Huaizhi wanted to say something more, but could only let out a heart-wrenching cough. He bent over, the spasmodic pain in his abdomen causing him to break out in a cold sweat.

"Ayun!"

From afar, a voice that Gu Huaizhi and Chu Yun both recognized came over, making the already tense atmosphere even more strained.
