Those puppet troops were utterly worthless in the eyes of the Japanese; they were just cannon fodder in battle. At this moment, who cared if a few puppet troops died, as long as those mutineers were killed?

"Hey!" The machine gunner felt relieved after being reprimanded. He just had to fire when his superior told him to. What difference was there between a few puppet soldiers and those mutineers?

"Da da da da..."

The machine gun roared to life, bullets whizzing through the men and dogs. Several dogs were instantly shot and fell to the ground. Many of the puppet soldiers and nearby laborers who were being harassed by the dogs also fell victim to the same attack...

The Japanese soldiers and their collaborators were drawn by the rolling rocks on the opposite mountain, and a pack of dogs suddenly attacked from behind, catching them completely off guard. At the sound of gunfire, the dogs immediately scattered, each seeking out its own target to continue tearing at. The dogs, Japanese soldiers, collaborators, and laborers were instantly intertwined, forcing the machine gunner to halt.

They don't care about killing puppet troops or laborers, but if they kill imperial soldiers, they'll be court-martialed!

The fight between man and dog was too intense to even fire a shot. Before you could even raise your gun and aim, the dog was already biting your arm, forcing you into hand-to-hand combat. Especially the puppet troops, who hadn't trained properly and were slow to react, were at a disadvantage even with two men against one dog. For a time, the dog pack's results were quite impressive!

"Dahuang?...It's Dahuang! Second Master..." Zhao Mangui exclaimed in surprise upon spotting Dahuang among the dogs. Before he could finish his sentence, his brother Zhao Manxiang covered his mouth.

"Don't speak! Quickly untie the ropes and escape!" Zhao Manxiang shouted, and the two men quickly worked together to untie the ropes. With so many people around and so many eyes watching, if anyone leaked the news to the Japanese or traitors, Zhao Village would be in trouble!

Not only the two brothers, but all the people from Zhao Village who were captured discovered that the pack of dogs belonged to their own village. Seeing that Zhao Manxiang forbade them to shout, they immediately understood his intention and each tried to untie the ropes and seize the opportunity to escape.

Untying the knots wasn't difficult for these farmers; they often used it to tether cattle and bundle firewood. Although their hands were bound, two people working together could quickly untie them. In no time, dozens of laborers had untied their ropes and ran off to the mountains on either side in the chaos.

"This way!" Zhao Manxiang quickly stopped his brother Mangui when he saw him about to run into the ravine with the crowd, pointing to the opposite hillside and shouting. The Japanese couldn't possibly let so many people escape; who knew how many would survive if they chased after them with bullets?

"Ta-ta-ta-ta!"

Sure enough, the machine guns roared again before the crowd had gone far, and only a handful of unarmed laborers fell to the ground.

"Baka! Fix bayonets and kill the dogs quickly! Machine gun guards, run away, die, die!" The Japanese leader gave the order when he saw the pack of dogs so ferocious that some people were starting to escape in the chaos.

These mongrels are too fierce. If we don't wipe out the pack, all the hard-won laborers will escape.

Upon hearing the order, dozens of Japanese soldiers stopped paying attention to the situation on the mountain, fixed bayonets, and plunged into the chaotic battle between men and dogs. For a time, the streets were a cacophony of flashing swords, howling men, and barking dogs—a truly unbelievable spectacle.

"Wang Wang Wang Wang..."

"woo woo woo woo……"

"Ouch, ouch, ouch..."

In the blink of an eye, more than a dozen hunting dogs were killed by the Japanese soldiers with bayonets. The puppet soldiers who had been fighting the dogs breathed a sigh of relief, clutching their wounds and lying on the ground panting. With their comrades killed, the remaining hunting dogs became even more ferocious, biting any Japanese or puppet soldiers they caught and tearing off chunks of flesh.

Especially Dahuang, who was fat and strong, leaped high and pounced on a Japanese soldier, biting him on the neck and quickly tearing off a section of his throat before rushing to the next one. He bit and killed several Japanese soldiers and puppet troops in a row, as brave as a general!

The other large dogs were no less formidable. Blackie, Sentinel, Wheel, and Chai Dao turned and bit the wrists of the Japanese soldiers and puppet troops who were holding their guns, breaking bones and tendons with a single bite. The smaller dogs were equally fierce, several of them working together to surround one and bite it to death.

On the other side, the puppet troops were utterly terrified, cursing and swearing incessantly.

"Who the hell is this stray dog? Why did it turn around and bite me?"

"Get out of my way, you damn dog! I'm eating dog meat for lunch!"

"To die in a dog's mouth would be too humiliating! I don't want to die!"

"Give in! You think you can take advantage of me because I don't have a pistol? I'll kick you to death!"

"Kick Dog Egg! He'll let go if you kick him!"

"Dog Egg? Where's Dog Egg?..."

The puppet troops were also having a hard time defeating the Japanese. In the man-dog battle, the Japanese would often just thrust their bayonets out when the dog would nimbly turn its head and dodge. Before they could even retract their bayonets, the dog would bite off their manhood, leaving them with a heart-wrenching howl.

The Japanese soldiers were incredibly frustrated! They were rigorously trained Imperial soldiers, their bayonet fighting skills beyond question. Three Japanese soldiers back-to-back could easily handle a dozen or so Chinese soldiers, but facing a pack of mutts, they felt like tigers trying to eat the sky, unable to find a way to attack. Their usual training techniques were completely useless; the hounds were targeting their groin, how could they possibly fight? They couldn't exactly bite them with their mouths, could they?

I don't know who trained this mongrel dog, it's so agile!

……

"Hey, well done! Bite the Japanese soldiers in the groin!" On the opposite mountain, two brothers with full cabinets and boxes, along with more than a dozen fellow villagers, had already fled the battlefield and were now hiding in the forest, watching the battle below from a high vantage point.

"Hurry up!" Manxiang urged. Now was not the time to watch the show; if they didn't take this opportunity to escape, the Japanese would catch up.

"Huh?...Heizi and Dahuang..." Mangui looked at the pack of dogs fighting with reluctance.

"Escape is the priority! They... will come back!" Manxiang pulled his brother over and urged everyone to run away. How many of these dogs would escape was up to fate; if they didn't take the chance to escape, their deaths would have been in vain!

"..." Everyone naturally understood that these mongrel dogs had come to save them, and now that they couldn't help, they couldn't let the hunting dogs die in vain! They glanced back at the pack of dogs fighting and then turned to leave, hoping that their old buddies could escape.

……

On the other side, Second Master and Chengzi met up and looked at the situation below. Every time the Japanese killed a hunting dog, their hearts clenched, and they felt their hearts bleeding!

"Let's go... Seventeen kids escaped, but the remaining six were shot and probably won't make it back... It was worth it!" Chengzi urged angrily.

"Hmm... Let's go!..." Second Master suddenly seemed to have aged several years, and as he turned around, tears streamed down his face...

The two men, supporting each other, crossed the hill. The sounds of fighting on the battlefield faded into the distance. Second Master could no longer hold on and collapsed, unconscious. Chengzi rushed forward to catch him, pinching his philtrum and patting his forehead, but to no avail. He had no choice but to carry Second Master to the back of a horse, and they rode off along a mountain path into the distance…

In their twilight years, faced with this absurd situation, the old folks gritted their teeth and were determined to save the children. But the old buddies in Second Master's heart, and the entire village's hunting dogs, were probably gone forever…

Dogs are man's best friend!
