Rebirth to Save Myself

Chapter 3 Severing ties

The light within Su Xia's body slowly brightened in places unseen by her, but stopped just before reaching the critical point.

It turned out to be Su Yue calling.

"Hey, sis, what did Mom mean in the family group chat? You have cancer! Sis, tell me this isn't true." Su Yue asked anxiously, hoping her sister would tell her it was fake news.

Su Xia said slowly, "A Yue, you must take good care of yourself. Don't be fooled by your parents' sweet words. They only have Su Yaoche in their hearts. They don't care about your life or death."

Su Yue understood her sister's meaning and knew that her sister's illness was real. She asked anxiously, "Sister, how much does it cost to treat this illness? I have some savings here, so I'll give it to you first."

A warm feeling welled up in Su Xia's heart; her younger sister was quite nice after all. So she replied, "No need, Yue. My illness is incurable; keep your money for yourself."

"Sister, what Mom and Dad did was really too much. You wait, I'm going to talk to them about it." Su Yue was furious as she read her mother's long rant in the family group chat.

“Ah Yue, Mom just left. You said she mentioned my illness in the family group chat, and Dad hasn't called yet, which means he's tacitly accepted it. There's no point in arguing with him.” Su Xia also hoped her father could express his opinion, but so far only Su Muyue had called her.

"But, sister, how could they, how could they treat you like this?" Su Yue's voice choked with sobs on the other end of the phone.

Su Xia smiled and said, "A-Yue, it's okay. At least I've seen through them. You should also learn from this. They just want to marry you off to a rich man and then abandon you. So you need to plan for yourself and not be foolish enough to believe that they still love you."

"I understand, sis." Su Yue hung up the phone after saying that, still feeling angry, and picked up her phone to book a high-speed rail ticket home for tomorrow.

In the family group chat, a group of people were constantly updating the messages.

Uncle: Are you telling the truth, sister-in-law?

Mom: How could it be fake? I saw the report with my own eyes; it said late-stage cancer. And that kid had even asked me to borrow 500,000 yuan before, thankfully I didn't give it to him.

Aunt: You can't say that, Second Sister-in-law. She's still our own child, and Xia is usually very well-behaved and obedient.

Uncle: Yes, it's pitiful. How could she get this disease at such a young age? Why don't we chip in some money, and you two take Xia to get treatment?

Uncle: Third brother, didn't you read what your second sister-in-law said? Late stage, that's like stepping into the gates of hell. If you go for treatment now, you're just throwing money away without any benefit.

Aunt: Yes, third brother. Our family is not as wealthy as yours; we have two children to raise.

Dad: My wife said this isn't about everyone pooling money to treat that rebellious girl, but about telling everyone that if she asks you for money, please don't lend it to her.

Dad: If you borrow it yourself, don't come looking for us later.

Mom: That's right, she's already cut ties with our family. Don't come looking for us.

Su Yue: Mom and Dad, are you even speaking human language? My sister needs family care right now, and you're making these sarcastic remarks.

Dad: Shut up. It's an adult conversation, what right do kids have to interrupt?

Su Yue: What? Are you going to use your fatherly authority to pressure me and force me to submit?

Mom: How dare you talk to your dad like that? You have no respect for your elders at all.

Su Yue: With parents like you, what kind of respect do you have to talk about?

Dad: Su Yue, you're all grown up now, aren't you?

Su Yue: Hehe

Mom: Su Yue, don't force us to scold you in front of our relatives. Let's save you some face.

Su Yue: I don't need it. You're the ones who need to save face. My sister and I have worn hand-me-downs from relatives and friends since we were little, and we had to help with housework every day. Now that we're working, we still have to give you half of our salary every month under the guise of saving money. Everyone knows where that money goes.

Su Yue wanted to send another message, but it showed she had been kicked out of the family group chat. Then her father immediately called via video, waiting for her to answer. Su Yue was really annoyed, so she answered, ready to argue with her parents.

"Su Yue, have you lost your mind? What nonsense are you spouting in the family group chat?" Mom immediately launched into a tirade.

"Did I get kicked by a donkey? I think you two got your heads caught in a door, saying things like that in the group chat. It must have hurt my sister so much." Su Yue wasn't afraid of angering her mother, and her words were like daggers.

“I kicked your sister out a long time ago. If she wants to cut ties with us, then we’re not family. What’s the point of being in the group if we’re not family?” Mom immediately retorted.

"So, according to you, I'm not in the group anymore, so does that mean I have nothing to do with you anymore?" Su Yue sneered.

“As long as you don’t say anything out of line, your mom can take you back. Just apologize to them then. You’re a kid, so no one will take it seriously,” the father said from the side.

"There's no need for that. Now that I'm out, I have no intention of going back in." Su Yue had no intention of going back in to apologize. What she said was completely correct. Why should she have to grovel and apologize just because of her father?

"Su Yue, don't be ungrateful. Do you want to cut ties with us like your sister did?" Mom yelled angrily from the side.

“That’s right, having parents like you is worse than not having any at all.” After saying that, Su Yue hung up the video call and then blocked their WeChat and phone numbers.

On the other side, Su's parents, unable to get through on the phone or video call, were furious, but unable to yell at Su Yue. The frustration was unbearable. They tried to call Su Yue using someone else's phone, but Su Yue hung up and blocked them as soon as she heard their voices, making them so angry they wanted to smash their phones. Someone else snatched the phone away and gave them a disapproving look.

Privately, relatives and friends also despised Su's parents' behavior. But to put it bluntly, the child is their own child; if they don't care about her, why should they? The fact that the couple could do such a thing shows that public opinion doesn't have much effect on them. They can only verbally express pity for the young girl with cancer, but otherwise, they think that if they borrow money and the girl doesn't survive, it would be a waste of money. So they decide to stay out of this mess.

Su Yue originally planned to go home the next day and argue with her parents face to face, but since she had already said it on the phone today, she changed her high-speed rail ticket to a ticket to Su Xia's place, and then packed her luggage to go to her sister's place tomorrow.
