High-class maid
Chapter 50 A Quiet Journey of Self-Destruction
"How could I dare to look down on you, Second Master? It's just that I'm old and faded, and I'm afraid I'll offend your eyes." Although she said this, the Second Madam turned her head away haughtily.
"Fine, fine, you're mocking me, aren't you? Come home with me!" The second master was so angry he didn't know what to say, he just kept trying to pull her hand and take her home.
"I'm not going back! Why are you allowed to come out and play, but I'm not allowed to?" The second wife shook off his hand and said.
"You're a woman, what are you doing showing your face in public! And even tipping that actor! Do you think I'm blind?!" the second master roared angrily.
"What's wrong with a woman? My son is all grown up now, Second Master, you can rest assured. Even if you take ten concubines, I wouldn't choose a gigolo. For my son's sake, I wouldn't do anything foolish!"
After speaking, the second lady did not wait for his reply, but tidied her hair and calmly stepped down from the carriage.
The second master stood there dumbfounded in the carriage. This was not what he had expected. Why was this woman no longer arguing? Why wasn't she hitting or scolding him? He felt a little uneasy.
The next day, Shan Tao and Chen Shan's wife returned to the mansion.
"Shantao, is your future sister-in-law beautiful? Is Brother Shangen happy?" Shen Xing'er asked, leaning close to Shantao.
"It's alright," Yamamoto replied listlessly, clearly uninterested.
Shen Xing'er wisely refrained from asking further questions. She patted Shan Tao's shoulder and said, "I'll come find you again in a few days when I'm less busy. I need to go to the inner courtyard to get busy now."
Yamamoto nodded and watched her leave.
After becoming a third-class maid, Shen Xing'er was not lazy, did not quarrel with others, and focused on doing her own thing. This contrasted sharply with Jing Pan, who was lazy, cunning, and domineering.
"Grandma, ever since Shen Xing'er came, she's taken away so many of my chores. Danxue always tells her what to do, and I can only do what she leaves behind!"
Jingpan complained to her grandmother behind the artificial hill.
"You called me here just for this?" asked Granny Zheng.
"I, I..." Jingpan was speechless, choked by her grandmother's words.
"I've told you many times, don't worry about others, just do your job well, and the masters will eventually notice." Granny Zheng had a terrible headache; her granddaughter was nothing like her.
"You always tell me this! Am I really your granddaughter or not?!" Jingpan shouted angrily.
“If you weren’t my granddaughter, I wouldn’t even bother with you. You’re just like your mother who loves to take advantage of others.”
"Grandma, please help me. Why don't you talk to the old lady and ask her to promote me to a second-class maid?" Jingpan tried a softer approach when she realized that force wouldn't work.
"You can't even be a good third-class maid, and you want to be a second-class one? Are you trying to embarrass me again? Don't bother me again unless it's absolutely necessary." After saying this angrily, Granny Zheng turned to leave.
"You just don't love me! You look down on my mother! Just you wait! Once I become the young master's concubine, you'll be sorry!" Jingpan roared angrily.
"Slap!" A crisp slap landed on Jingpan's face.
"You, you hit me?" Jingpan covered her face and looked at Zheng Mama in disbelief.
"Who taught you that? Was it your mother? What kind of person are you? You think you can get the young master to like you? If you want to die, get lost and don't drag me and your father into it!"
The usually gentle Granny Zheng angrily scolded Jingpan.
Unbeknownst to the grandmother and granddaughter, behind the artificial hill stood the First Madam and her entourage, ready to pay their respects to the old lady. Their conversation had been overheard by the First Madam.
At this moment, the First Madam's heaving chest showed that she was very angry. Wang, who was with her, was also very angry. She never expected that her daughter would be plotted against while doing her job well!
Wang glanced at the First Madam questioningly, wanting to see what her decision would be. The First Madam made a shushing gesture, waved her hand, and the group returned to their own courtyard.
"Outrageous! What do you take my sons for? You're eyeing them one by one! You heartless bastards, you've sold them all off!" the First Madam said angrily.
"Madam, please calm down. Jingpan has always been a competitive and ambitious person. Fortunately, Granny Zheng is not confused," Madam Wang advised from the side.
"This Jingpan cannot be allowed to stay. Let me think of a way that satisfies both mother and son, so as to get rid of that arrogant brat!"
The First Madam's reddened fingers showed that she wanted to tear Jingpan to pieces.
The next day, the First Madam greeted the Old Madam as usual. Danwen, who came to serve tea, was accidentally bumped by the First Madam's maid, who got her clothes wet.
"Sister, I didn't mean to. Let me go with you to change your clothes," said the maidservant beside the First Madam.
Danwen was about to lash out when she saw that the other person was also a head maid. She frowned slightly and said...
"It's alright, but I can't serve this tea. Why don't you pour me a cup and bring it up?"
"It's nothing, it's nothing. Sister, go change your clothes quickly. It would be my fault if you caught a cold."
Seeing that she was so nice, Danwen's anger subsided a little. He nodded and left without saying anything.
At this moment, Jingpan came up and said in a fawning tone, "Sister, let me take it, you can rest."
The maidservant smiled secretly and handed her the tea as if she were a fool.
Jingpan thanked him repeatedly, tidied her hair, and carried the tea into the house.
"Madam, First Madam, please have some tea." Jingpan placed the tea on the table and secretly glanced at the First Madam.
"This young lady is so pretty. Mother, you have quite a few beautiful maids around you." The First Madam didn't serve tea, but looked at Jingpan and teased her.
The old lady turned her head and saw Jingpan. She asked, "Where's Danwen? Isn't she usually here?"
"Reporting to Madam, Sister Danwen's clothes got wet, so she went downstairs to change. I was afraid you two would have to wait too long, so I brought them up."
Jingpan's face lit up with joy when she heard the old lady ask her, and she quickly responded.
"Go down," the old lady waved her hand, signaling her to leave.
"Wait!" the First Madam called out to her.
Jingpan was secretly delighted. Could it be that the First Madam had taken a liking to her? Did she want her to go to the Eldest Young Master's place?
“Mother, lately I’ve been hearing magpies chirping, which means something good must be happening. But seeing this girl reminds me that it’s been a long time since we’ve had any happy events in our household.”
Jingpan was overjoyed, almost jumping for joy. Although the old lady didn't know what the First Madam was up to, she remained silent, waiting for her to continue.
"The old woman who guards our mansion has been begging her daughter-in-law for a long time, hoping that her daughter-in-law can arrange a marriage for her. Now that she has seen your maid here, she is very happy. I wonder what Mother thinks?"
The First Madam asked with a smile.
Jingpan, however, was stunned, as if struck by lightning.
"Madam, weren't you supposed to be serving the young master?" she blurted out, losing control of herself.
“Miss Jingpan has lofty ambitions. How could you possibly covet the eldest young master? There are many rules in this manor. You are innocent and carefree. I suppose you wouldn’t want to be confined to this house, would you, Granny Zheng?”
The First Madam looked at Granny Zheng and asked with a smile.
