Chapter Twenty-Eight: A Night Visit to Xiuling Palace

Following Leng Yuling's words, Mo Xuan went to Shangqian Palace.

“Because he is no ordinary person.” After a pause, Mo Xuan smiled and said, “These are Leng Yuling’s exact words to me.”

The person standing in front of Mo Xuan was Mo Zhen, who had his hands behind his back and was facing away from him. Mo Xuan could not see his expression at all, nor did he know what he was thinking.

In his anxiety, he asked again, "Brother, have you thought about how terrible the rumors in the harem are for a woman who has lived in the countryside since childhood?"

"What do you want to say?" Only then did Mo Zhen turn around to face Mo Xuan.

Seeing the slight change in Mo Zhen's face, his worries eased by half. Only if Mo Zhen could stop the rumors could he be completely at ease.

“Southern Chu is a completely unfamiliar environment for her. Don’t you think it’s unfair to her, Your Majesty?” Mo Xuan looked at Mo Zhen, a rare serious expression on his face. “Don’t forget, besides being your Empress and savior, she may also be Yun’er’s only hope to continue living.”

As soon as Mo Xuan finished speaking, Mo Zhen frowned instantly.

"Enough!" Mo Zhen shouted sternly, "You know she is my savior, I... I know what to do."

After pausing, Mo Zhen waved his hand, signaling Mo Xuan to leave first.

Mo Xuan sighed and looked at him, saying, "I don't mean to force you, but as the emperor, as Mo Zhen, there are some things you have no choice about."

After Mo Xuan finished speaking, he left without waiting for Mo Zhen to say anything more.

Mo Zhen was left alone in the palace. He sighed deeply. He knew what choice was best for the Southern Chu Kingdom, just as he knew that no one else knew about his hesitation.

On the other hand, as a doctor, Leng Yuling was not at all resigned to the fact that she had not been able to feel Ma Zhiyun's pulse. In the past few days, she had been thinking that there must be a problem with Mo Zhen's strong opposition to her seeing Ma Zhiyun.

Out of curiosity, she secretly slipped into Ma Zhiyun's Xiuling Palace, without Rong Momo and Ziyan's knowledge, relying on her previous memories.

They sneaked in and were surprised to find that Ma Zhiyun's palace was empty of servants, and that she was taking a bath.

Upon hearing the commotion, Ma Zhiyun was about to shout, but Leng Yuling quickly covered her mouth: "Don't shout, it's me, it's Leng Yuling."

She walked up to Ma Zhiyun and let her see her face clearly before releasing her hand from Ma Zhiyun's mouth: "Don't shout, or I'll be done for."

Ma Zhiyun looked at her with curiosity and surprise and asked, "Empress, why are you here?"

She didn't like having anyone serving her while she bathed, which is why she was always alone in her bedchamber. But she never expected that Leng Yuling would be able to sneak in.

Leng Yuling looked around warily, then glanced out the window before whispering, "Mo Zhen didn't want me to know about your condition, but I just had to find out, so I couldn't resist coming to check on you."

Hearing her words, Ma Zhiyun realized that Leng Yuling had come secretly because she was worried that Mo Zhen would be angry if he found out she was here.

Thinking of this, she couldn't help but smile. This empress was indeed quite interesting.

"What are you laughing at?" Leng Yuling asked, puzzled.

"I've always heard the Fifth Prince say that you're very interesting, and now that I see it, it's true."

“Mo Xuan?” Leng Yuling said with a look of disdain, “The image of me that comes out of his mouth must not be good, so I won’t ask what he said.”

After pausing, Leng Yuling looked at Ma Zhiyun and suddenly became serious: "I just want to ask you, what exactly is your illness?"

Ma Zhiyun was taken aback, but did not speak.
