Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 76 Taming Beasts to Form an Enemy Formation: An Initial Victory
Sweat dripped from my forehead, blurring the map with a wet patch. The howl of the Moon Wolf shook the heavens outside the city; I could almost feel its despair as it fought desperately against the beast tide. The beast lord had breached its defenses, meaning the city's fall was only a matter of time. I had to devise a strategy as quickly as possible! The existing beast tamers were fighting individually, their forces scattered, utterly incapable of withstanding the onslaught of the beast tide.
I stared at the black arrows on the map representing the beast horde, like venomous snakes relentlessly closing in on the town center. Wait… venomous snakes? A thought flashed through my mind!
What if we could gather the scattered beast-taming power together and use it like a net to catch the beast tide? A bold idea gradually took shape in my mind—beast-taming formations!
I immediately summoned all the beast tamers and brought them to the temporary command center.
"Everyone, I know you are all exhausted, but now we have reached the most crucial moment!"
I pointed to the map, my tone firm, "The beast tide is too large; we can no longer fight separately. I have a plan that requires everyone's cooperation!"
I explained the principles of taming beasts into formations in detail.
Simply put, it involves arranging different beasts into a specific formation based on their attributes and abilities, creating a well-rounded unit that combines offense and defense.
For example, beasts with fire-attribute attacks are positioned on the outer perimeter to form a wall of fire; beasts with strong defensive capabilities are positioned in the center to provide support and withstand the frontal assault of the beast horde; and fast beasts are responsible for roaming and providing support, filling gaps in the formation.
At first, the beast tamers were skeptical of my plan. After all, the tactic of forming formations with tamed beasts was unheard of, and it was also extremely complicated to execute.
But seeing my determined gaze and detailed plan, they ultimately chose to trust me.
"Su Yao, you are in charge of commanding the Howling Moon Wolf and other high-level tamed beasts to form the core of the formation and resist the attack of the beast tide lord."
I looked at Su Yao; her eyes were sparkling with excitement, as if she was full of anticipation for the battle.
"Don't worry, leave it to me!"
Su Yao answered confidently.
"Master Beastmaster, your flamingos have strong attack power, so they are responsible for building the outer firewall."
I looked at Master Wang, who nodded in agreement, but a hint of resentment flashed in his eyes. I suppressed my worries and continued to arrange the positions of the other beast tamers.
With everyone's combined efforts, a massive array composed of tamed beasts gradually took shape. At my command, the tamed beasts began to move.
The wall of fire burned fiercely, turning the charging monsters to ashes; the earth-elemental beasts built a high wall to withstand the onslaught of the beast tide; the howling moon wolf's roar intimidated the surrounding monsters, buying time for the other beasts.
"Hold the formation! Don't panic!"
I shouted commands, feeling both nervous and excited. The effect of the beast-taming formation was even better than I had imagined. Although the beast tide's attacks were fierce, they were all neutralized by the formation.
Seeing this, the initially panicked beast tamers gradually calmed down and became more determined to carry out my orders.
As I watched the battle gradually stabilize, I breathed a slight sigh of relief. It seemed my plan had succeeded…
"Su Yao, keep an eye on the Beast Tide Lord's movements!"
I reminded them. I kept a close eye on the battlefield; the power of the beast-taming formation was beginning to show, and the beast tide's offensive had noticeably weakened.
The raging walls of fire, the earthen ramparts, and the intimidating roar of the Howling Moon Wolf kept the monsters at bay. Although the battle was fierce, we held the upper hand.
A sense of relief welled up inside me, but I dared not slacken in the slightest; this battle was far from over.
"Steady! Steady!"
I shouted at the top of my lungs, my voice hoarse from directing for so long.
However, just when I thought the situation was under control, an unexpected change occurred!
A gap appeared in the once-solid wall of fire, and several enormous Earthshattering Bears roared as they charged through the gap, heading straight for the town!
My heart sank, and I immediately realized what was wrong. My gaze quickly swept across the battlefield, finally settling on the Beastmaster King.
The flamingo he was controlling was supposed to be guarding that section of the defensive line, but it had shifted slightly from its original position. Although it was only a small deviation, it was enough for the cunning magical beast to seize the opportunity.
Damn it! This guy is still not convinced! I cursed under my breath. Now is not the time to assign blame; we must fix this loophole as soon as possible!
"Su Yao! The gap on the left flank, quick!"
I shouted urgently. Almost the instant I spoke, Su Yao moved. She flashed forward like lightning towards the few Earth-Splitting Bears that had broken through the defenses.
He brandished his longsword, its light as white as snow, its chilling aura palpable. Blood splattered, and after a few mournful roars, the massive body of the Earth-Splitting Bear crashed to the ground.
She turned around, flicked the blood off her sword, and the splattered blood droplets on her face resembled blooming red plum blossoms, adding a unique charm to her appearance.
"Nongyu, you need to be more demanding of him."
Her tone carried a hint of reproach, yet also contained a touch of concern.
My heart skipped a beat; her eyes and her tone made me feel inexplicably hot.
I took a deep breath and forced myself to focus back on the battlefield.
"I see."
I responded in a low voice, trying to suppress the surging emotions within me. Although the loophole was patched up in time, the lack of cooperation from the Beastmaster King still made me uneasy.
He appears to obey my commands, but in reality he is secretly sabotaging me. If this is allowed to continue, the consequences will be unimaginable.
I had to find a way to solve this problem, otherwise the battles to come would be even more difficult. Just as I was racking my brains, the once noisy battlefield suddenly fell silent.
The beast tide's attack ceased, and the monsters retreated like a receding tide, leaving behind corpses and a nauseating stench of blood.
A deep roar came from behind the herd, and the earth trembled slightly. A chill ran through me, and an ominous premonition washed over me.
Slowly, a massive figure appeared in my field of vision. It was the Beast Tide Lord... It had arrived.
"Everyone, get ready..."
Before I could finish speaking, I was interrupted by a deafening roar...
