Chapter 372 The Beginning of the Beast Taming Mutation

Chapter 372

I rushed out of the simulated combat arena, and the scene before me shocked me. The Beastmaster lay on the ground, his body convulsing violently, groaning in pain. His usually docile flamingo was now acting like a madman, its wings flapping wildly, flames raging and setting everything ablaze. The equipment in the training area was charred black, and the air was thick with the acrid smell of burning. Several Beastmasters, caught off guard and bearing burns, scattered in panic.

"What happened?" I asked loudly, trying to find a clue from the chaotic scene.

"The beast taming of the metal erbium... seems to be... out of control!" a beast tamer with a burned arm cried out in terror.

"Out of control?" My doubts deepened. There was a close connection between the beast tamer and the beast tamer, like one entity. I had never heard of a beast taming losing control and attacking its tamer.

Just then, Su Yao arrived. She followed closely behind me, her eyes filled with admiration as she looked at my focused gaze. She unconsciously took my arm, pressed her body gently against mine, and softly said, "Yu, you must be careful."

I felt Su Yao's softness, and my heart warmed. I took her hand in return, giving her a reassuring look. I looked around and saw the boy with the metal ring huddled in a corner, shivering. His leg seemed to have been injured by falling burning debris, and blood was seeping out. I quickly called nearby medical personnel to take him for treatment.

“Something is very wrong with Erbium,” a researcher in a white lab coat with a nameplate that read “Erbium Researcher” said to me with a grave expression. “His beast-taming ability seems to have undergone some kind of mutation, causing him to lose control of his beasts, and… this mutation seems to be contagious.”

"Contagious?" My heart sank. This was not good news. If this mutation was indeed contagious, the consequences would be unimaginable.

The envoy, drenched in sweat, rushed over. He was tasked with calming the beast tamers, but now he appeared completely overwhelmed. "Nong Yu, you have to think of something! The beast tamers are panicking; they're afraid they'll end up like that!"

I took a deep breath and forced myself to calm down. The most important thing now is to figure out the cause of this anomaly and how to control it.

“Thulium researcher, what are your thoughts on this anomaly?” I turned to the Thulium researcher, hoping to get some useful information from him.

The thulium researcher frowned and shook his head. "I...I don't know either. This is the first time I've encountered a situation like this, and I have no clue what to do yet."

At this moment, a strategist dressed in brocade robes walked over. He was none other than the strategist of Jinlu. He said loudly, "In my opinion, the most urgent task is to use force to suppress these out-of-control beast tamers in order to prevent greater casualties!"

His words caused a stir among the surrounding beast tamers. Some agreed, while others disagreed, and the scene quickly descended into chaos... Looking at the arguing crowd, I felt a growing unease. Things were probably not as simple as they seemed.

“Wait…” I suddenly spoke, a sense of foreboding washing over me. “Don’t argue…” My voice wasn’t loud, but it carried a strange power that gradually quieted the noisy crowd. The strategist was about to say something, but I raised my hand to stop him. “Arguing won’t solve anything now; it will only make things worse. We should figure out the cause of the anomaly first, instead of blindly using force.”

My words calmed some people down, but others still insisted on the strategist's point of view. "Nong Yu, you make it sound so easy! The situation with Er is getting more and more serious. If it's not controlled in time, who knows what will happen!" a burly beast tamer retorted loudly.

“I know everyone is worried,” I tried to keep my tone calm, “but using force will only escalate the conflict and could even lead to more beast tamers going out of control. We must find a fundamental solution to the problem.”

I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and focused my mind on sensing everything around me. My beast-taming ability is different from others; I can sense the emotions of beasts and even communicate with them in a simple way. In the chaotic scene, various emotions were intertwined: fear, anger, anxiety… I tried hard to filter out these chaotic emotions, attempting to find a clue related to the anomaly.

Suddenly, I sensed a faint, unusual aura. This aura was strange, carrying a chilling and malevolent quality, unlike any known beast. I abruptly opened my eyes and followed the aura, discovering it emanated from a small, trembling animal hiding in a corner.

The little beast looked quite ordinary, with gray fur and a small size. If it weren't for my special abilities, I probably wouldn't have noticed it at all. I walked up to it, knelt down, and gently stroked its head. The little beast raised its head, looked at me with fearful eyes, and let out a weak whimper.

"Don't be afraid," I whispered, releasing my beast-taming ability to try and establish a connection with it. The little beast seemed to sense my kindness and gradually relaxed, rubbing against my palm. Just then, I felt a strange power emanating from the little beast. It seemed to sense something, its body trembling slightly as it looked in one direction.

I followed the little beast's gaze and saw a corridor leading to the research lab. Could the cause of the anomaly be there? A thought struck me, and I immediately made a decision.

"Su Yao, you stay here and protect everyone's safety," I said, turning to Su Yao.

Although Su Yao was a little worried, she nodded and said, "You should be careful too."

I patted the little beast's head and said, "Lead the way."

The little beast seemed to understand me and turned to run down the corridor. I followed closely behind, my heart filled with anticipation and unease. The corridor was empty and quiet, save for the sound of my footsteps and the little beast's soft breathing. I felt that strange aura growing stronger, seemingly just ahead.

Finally, we arrived at a door at the end of the corridor. There were no signs on the door; it looked completely ordinary. I took a deep breath and pushed the door open…

The room was pitch black and empty... Had the trail gone cold?
