Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 296 The fight for the artifact begins

The wind rustled the leaves, creating a whispering sound like a shadowy whisper that sent chills down my spine. My heart began to race, and my palms sweated slightly. Su Yao walked to my side and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong?"

"I feel...we're being watched." I lowered my voice, my eyes scanning the dense jungle around us warily. The towering trees blocked out the sun, their shadows shifting and intertwining, as if countless eyes were hidden within.

Su Yao also became alert. She gripped her longsword tightly and frowned slightly: "Could it be the Mercury Beast Tamers?"

"Possibly." I nodded, quickly calculating a countermeasure in my mind. The Mercury Beastmaster is powerful and cunning; if we are ambushed by him, we will be in a very dangerous situation.

I took a deep breath, suppressing my unease. Now was not the time to panic; I needed to calm down to find a solution. "Xiaoying, Xiaoli, Xiaofeng, go scout around," I whispered to my three tamed beasts. Xiaoying was an agile shadow leopard, skilled in stealth and reconnaissance; Xiaoli was a spirit fox with a keen sense of smell, able to track scents; and Xiaofeng was a swift eagle, capable of surveying the entire area from the air.

Upon receiving my command, the three beasts vanished silently into the jungle. I closed my eyes, concentrated, and carefully perceived everything around me through the senses I shared with them.

Soon, Xiaoying sent back a message, saying that it had spotted a group of figures hiding in the bushes not far from us. Judging from their clothing and aura, they were indeed the subordinates of the Mercury Beastmaster.

"It really is them!" I thought to myself. It seems that the Mercury Beastmaster had anticipated our arrival and had set up an ambush in advance.

I told Su Yao and the other companions about Xiao Ying's discovery, and everyone's expressions became serious.

"It seems we need to be careful," Su Yao said in a low voice.

"Okay." I nodded. "Little Fox, Little Wind, continue scouting and keep an eye on their movements."

With Xiaoying, Xiaoli, and Xiaofeng's reconnaissance, we were fully aware of our surroundings, and the Mercury Beastmaster's ambush posed no threat. I sneered inwardly, "Mercury Beastmaster, do you think your tricks can fool me? This time, the outcome is still uncertain!"

We continued towards the valley, treading lightly and trying not to make a sound. The surrounding jungle remained silent, with only the sound of the wind rustling through the leaves, but I knew that danger lurked in the shadows, ready to erupt at any moment.

Suddenly, a strange noise came from ahead, like someone poking at tree branches. I stopped abruptly and raised my hand to signal everyone to stop.

"Who's there?" I shouted in a deep voice.

Silence. After a moment of silence, an arrogant voice rang out: "Oh, isn't this Nong Yu? I didn't expect you to actually dare to come here."

The bushes rustled, and several figures emerged. Leading them was the Mercury Beastmaster, a cold smile on his face, his eyes filled with disdain. Behind him followed the Thallium Beastmaster and several other subordinates, all menacing and glaring at us menacingly.

The Mercury Beastmaster walked up to us, arms crossed, and arrogantly said, "If you know what's good for you, get lost. This isn't a place for you. The divine artifact is our Mercury family's for the taking!"

The beast tamer behind him chimed in, "Kid, a wise man knows when to yield. Don't be stubborn and end up regretting it!"

I sneered, showing no fear whatsoever: "Divine artifacts belong to those of virtue, not to any family's private property. If you want to steal a divine artifact, you'll have to see if you have the ability!"

Su Yao stood beside me, holding my arm tightly. She looked at me with loving eyes, leaned closer, and said in a soft voice, "Yu, we won't be afraid of them."

I felt her trust and reliance, and a warm feeling welled up inside me, easing my initial tension. I took her hand in return, giving her a reassuring look. Yes, we won't be afraid of them!

"Hmph, you won't listen to reason, so you'll have to suffer the consequences!" The Mercury Beastmaster's face darkened, a ruthless glint flashing in his eyes. "Since you're courting death, don't blame me for being impolite!"

The beast tamer behind him immediately understood and said with a sinister smile, "Boss, let me teach these arrogant fools a lesson!" With that, he commanded one of his giant spider beast tamers to pounce on us.

At the same time, the Mercury Beastmaster summoned his beast—a lion engulfed in flames. The scorching flames distorted the surrounding air, and a powerful pressure swept over them.

I took a deep breath and calmly directed Xiaoying, Xiaoli, and Xiaofeng to fight. Xiaoying transformed into a black shadow and circled around to the side of the giant spider to attack; Xiaoli used her keen sense of smell to find the enemy's weakness; and Xiaofeng hovered in the air, waiting for an opportunity to strike.

The two sides' beast tamers clashed fiercely, and for a time, sand and stones flew through the jungle, accompanied by deafening shouts of battle. While directing the beast tamers in battle, I vigilantly observed the surrounding movements, wary of sneak attacks from the mercury-taming and thallium-taming beast tamers.

Just then, a tremendous roar suddenly erupted from the depths of the jungle, deafening and sounding like that of an ancient beast. This sudden roar caused both sides, who were engaged in fierce combat, to stop and look in the direction from which the sound came.

"What was that sound?" the pale-faced boy asked.

My heart was filled with doubt. The roar contained immense power, sending chills down my spine. Could it be that some powerful magical beast had appeared?

The Mercury Beastmaster frowned, seemingly uneasy about the sudden roar. He whispered to the Thallium Beastmaster, "Be careful, something's not right."

Just as we were all puzzled, another roar came from the depths of the jungle, louder and closer than before.

"Oh no, something's coming!" the bismuth tamer exclaimed.

My heart tightened, and I quickly directed Xiaoying, Xiaoli, and Xiaofeng back to my side to prepare for the impending danger.

"Prepare for battle!" I said in a deep voice, my eyes fixed on the direction from which the voice came.

The bushes shook violently, and a huge figure slowly appeared in our field of vision… “Wait,” I suddenly exclaimed, “that looks like…”
