Beast Taming Star Journey
Chapter 243 Undercurrents Begin to Surge, Intelligence Tracking
Back in the Beast Taming Realm, I couldn't wait to head to Su Yao's residence, my heart filled with the joy of reuniting with her.
Pushing open the door, I found the room empty, and a chill instantly ran through me.
There was only a note on the table, written in neat handwriting: Come to the border immediately, there is an emergency.
My heart sank, and an ominous premonition enveloped me. Su Yao was always calm and composed; anything that could make her rush like this must be extraordinary.
Without a second thought, I immediately summoned my beast companion and sped off towards the border. Along the way, I tried repeatedly to contact Su Yao, but received no response.
Anxiety and unease entwined my heart like vines, making my breathing rapid.
My beast companion sensed my emotions and increased its speed to the maximum, the wind whistling past my ears as if urging me to go faster. Finally, I reached the border.
The atmosphere here was unusually heavy, filled with an indescribable sense of oppression. I found Su Yao; she was discussing something with several beast tamers, her expression grave.
Upon seeing me, she hurried over, a hint of worry flashing in her eyes. "You've finally come."
"What happened?" I asked anxiously.
Su Yao took a deep breath and slowly said, "Recently, there have been a number of beast tamers disappearing near the border, and they have all gone missing silently without any signs of fighting."
My heart skipped a beat, and a chill ran from the soles of my feet straight to the top of my head.
"Could it be... a dark force?"
Su Yao nodded. "We suspect that dark forces have made a comeback, but we don't have any conclusive evidence yet."
Over the next few days, we searched everywhere for clues about the missing beast tamer, but to no avail.
We asked the nearby residents, but they were all very reluctant to talk about the dark forces, as if they were terrified of the topic. This unusual reaction deepened my suspicions.
"It seems someone is deliberately concealing the truth," Su Yao said in a deep voice.
The investigation had reached a stalemate; we felt lost in a fog, unable to find our way. A sense of powerlessness welled up inside me, and I clenched my fists, my heart filled with resentment.
Should I just give up like this? No, I absolutely cannot give up! I must find out the truth and bring the forces of darkness to justice!
One evening, Su Yao and I were walking down a secluded alley, our hearts heavy. Suddenly, I caught a glimpse of a furtive figure flashing by.
My gut feeling told me that this person was definitely suspicious. I grabbed Su Yao and gestured for her to follow me. We quietly followed the figure to a dark corner.
In the dim light, I recognized the man—a notorious promethium merchant, a profit-driven spies who specialized in selling information.
A thought flashed through my mind: perhaps he could provide the information we needed…
"Wait..." I grabbed Su Yao, who was about to leave, my eyes fixed on the back of the promethium merchant.
In the dim light, he was hunched over, walking hurriedly, as if something was chasing him from behind.
A thought struck me: this promethium merchant may have a bad reputation, but he's well-informed; perhaps he knows something.
"What's wrong?" Su Yao looked in the direction of my gaze with a puzzled expression, her delicate brows furrowing slightly. "That's... a promethium merchant? You want to get information from him?"
I nodded. "We're completely clueless right now, so let's try anything. This guy may be greedy, but he'll sell anything if the price is right."
Su Yao held my arm tightly, her eyes filled with trust, as if saying, "I believe in you." A warm feeling welled up in my heart, dispelling the anxiety and unease of the past few days.
This silent support filled me with strength, as if no difficulty could stop me from moving forward.
We quickly followed, but the promethium merchant seemed to sense something, quickened his pace, and turned into a more secluded alley.
A musty smell permeated the alley, and moss crawled all over the walls, sending chills down my spine. I followed him closely, not daring to relax for a moment.
Finally, we cornered him in a dead end. When the promethium merchant saw us, his face turned deathly pale, and his body began to tremble uncontrollably.
"What...what do you want to do?" he stammered, his eyes filled with fear.
I stepped forward, my tone icy, "We want to know about the recent disappearances of beast tamers. You should know something about that, shouldn't you?"
The promethium merchant's eyes darted around, avoiding my gaze. "I...I don't know what you're talking about..."
“Stop playing dumb,” I raised my voice. “I know you’re well-informed. As long as you tell us the truth, we won’t make things difficult for you.”
Su Yao also stepped forward, and the powerful aura emanating from her made the merchant even more frightened. He cowered, like a lamb to the slaughter.
After a brief stalemate, the promethium merchant finally sighed, as if he had made a difficult decision.
“Okay… I do know some things, but…” He paused, a greedy glint in his eyes, “My information is very expensive…”
My heart sank. Sure enough, this guy showed his true colors.
"What do you want?" I asked, barely suppressing my anger.
The promethium merchant licked his lips, his eyes gleaming with greed. "I need... precious beast-taming crystal cores..."
He stretched out a trembling hand and pointed to the beast-taming pouch at my waist, "A beast tamer of your strength must have quite a few precious crystal cores..."
He stared greedily at my beast-taming pouch, as if he could already see the treasures inside.
A surge of anger welled up inside me. This greedy bastard dared to covet my Beast Taming Crystal Core! My hand unconsciously tightened around the hilt of my sword…
"you……"
