Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 206: The Retrial Begins, and Difficulties Arrive.

Elder Cobalt patted my shoulder and whispered, "Do your best."

He then turned and left, leaving me alone to face the bronze-robed examiner.

A heavy atmosphere filled the air, making it hard for me to breathe.

The bronze-robed inspector sized me up, his eyes sharp as knives, as if he could see right through me.

"Nong Yu, the re-examination of your Beast Tamer qualification will begin now." His voice was deep and cold, devoid of any emotion.

I took a deep breath and tried to stay calm.

"Yes." He nodded slightly, and a thin man beside him immediately handed him a scroll.

The copper-robed examiner took the scroll and slowly unfurled it, revealing it densely covered with tiny, fly-like characters.

“These are your censorship rules.” He handed me the scroll, his tone still icy.

I took the scroll, feeling a vague unease in my heart.

The scroll was made of a material unlike any paper I had ever seen before; it felt cool to the touch, like some kind of metal.

I unrolled the scroll, my eyes quickly scanning the text, and my brows furrowed slightly.

The content here is completely different from what I knew about the qualification review for beast tamers.

Not only are the assessment contents more tedious and complicated, but many requirements are also particularly harsh, even bordering on obstructive.

For example, one of the rules requires me to concoct a potion using specified herbs within a limited time to enhance the potential of a beast with a specific attribute.

This herb is extremely rare; even I have only seen it mentioned in ancient books.

I looked up at the bronze-robed examiner, my doubts deepening.

While previous qualification reviews for beast tamers were challenging, they were never this stringent.

There must be more to this story than meets the eye.

“Sir,” I asked in a deep voice, “the rules here seem to be different from those of previous reviews?”

The bronze-robed examiner's lips curled into a barely perceptible sneer. "The rules are set by the Beast Tamer Association and will naturally be adjusted according to the actual situation. You just need to complete the assessment according to the requirements above; there's no need to question them."

My heart sank, realizing that this so-called "adjustment" was probably specifically designed for me.

It seems someone doesn't want me to pass this retrial smoothly.

"Let's begin the inspection." The bronze-robed inspector waved his hand impatiently, and the thin man beside him immediately brought over a table and some necessary tools.

I suppressed my anger and forced myself to calm down.

Since they want to make things difficult for me, I'll accept their challenge.

I studied the rules on the scroll carefully, trying to find a way to break through.

"The first test," the bronze-robed examiner's voice rang out again, "is to identify and describe one hundred different types of tamed beasts, within one hour."

One hundred kinds?

This number far exceeds previous assessment standards.

Moreover, many rare beasts are so rare that even experienced beast tamers may not be able to identify them all.

I took a deep breath and began to describe the types of beasts listed on the scroll one by one.

Based on my years of accumulated knowledge and experience, as well as what I saw and heard while traveling with Su Yao, I described the characteristics, habits, and weaknesses of each beast as thoroughly as possible.

At first, the bronze-robed examiner wore a slightly contemptuous smile, seemingly convinced that I was incapable of passing the test.

However, as I accurately described one tamed beast after another, his expression gradually became serious...

A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes, which quickly returned to their icy expression. "Next item..."

I spoke at lightning speed, almost without pausing, clearly describing the characteristics, habits, and weaknesses of each of the hundred tamed beasts.

The bronze-robed examiner's face grew increasingly grim. He had originally thought this test would be enough to make me give up, but he hadn't expected me to handle it so well.

An hour passed quickly, and I had just finished describing the last type of beast.

“Not bad,” the bronze-robed examiner’s voice sounded somewhat dry. “Next, we will proceed with the second assessment.”

He opened the scroll, pointed to one of the items, and said, "Use the specified herbs to concoct a potion that can enhance the potential of fire-attribute beast tamers. Time limit: two hours."

I took the medicinal herbs he handed me and examined them carefully.

These medicinal herbs are indeed very rare, but they are not entirely without substitutes.

I sneered inwardly. It seemed that although this bronze-robed inspector wanted to make things difficult for me, he didn't really know my strength.

I quickly reviewed the pharmacological knowledge in my mind and then began to prepare the medicine.

My technique is skillful and my movements are precise; every step is just right.

In less than an hour, I prepared a potion that was even more effective than what was required on the scroll.

The copper-robed examiner took the potion, examined it carefully, and his expression grew even more somber.

He didn't expect me to complete the assessment so easily.

"Hmph," he sneered, "it seems you do have some skill. However, the upcoming test won't be so simple."

“The third test,” he said, pointing to another item on the scroll, “is that you must tame a raging Crimson Griffin within a specified time limit of three hours.”

A thought struck me. Taming the Crimson Griffin wasn't difficult, but the words "time limit" and "rage" made me uneasy.

Just as I was about to head to the animal training grounds, the skinny Gall assistant stopped me.

“Mr. Nong Yu,” he said with a forced smile, “please wait here for a moment. The animal training ground is being prepared.”

I checked the time; half an hour had already passed since the three-hour limit was set.

"Does the preparation work really take this long?" I asked. "Well... I'm not entirely sure about the specifics," the assistant stammered. "Please be patient."

I knew in my heart that this was clearly a deliberate delay.

I gave Jia's assistant a cold look, said nothing, and just stood there quietly waiting.

Time ticked by, and my patience gradually wore thin.

An hour passed, and Assistant Jia still showed no intention of taking me to the animal training ground.

"How much longer?" I asked in an icy tone.

"Almost there, almost there," Assistant Jia wiped the sweat from his forehead. "It'll be done soon."

I sneered inwardly. It seemed they wanted me to miss the assessment time, thus disqualifying me.

I took a deep breath and forcefully suppressed the anger in my heart.

Since they want to play, I'll play along with them to the end.

Finally, with less than half an hour left before the deadline, Assistant Jia slowly led me to the animal training ground.

I looked up and saw a huge crimson griffin roaring deafeningly in the center of the training ground.

What made me even more uneasy was that in the audience, a familiar figure was looking at me with a malicious smile... It was the zinc competitor.

Why is he here?

A sense of foreboding washed over me... I clenched my fists and walked towards the raging Crimson Griffin, silently thinking: The game has only just begun...
