Beast Taming Star Journey

Chapter 149 Entering the Mountains to Search for Treasure, Surrounded by Hidden Enemies

“Su Yao…” I grabbed Su Yao’s arm, my heart pounding. “Someone’s here!” Su Yao’s eyes sharpened, and she immediately gripped her spear tightly, scanning her surroundings warily. “Where?” she asked in a low voice, her voice tense.

"I saw a dark figure over there!" I pointed in the direction the figure disappeared. The dense forest was like an abyss where a giant beast lurked, sending chills down my spine.

We cautiously approached in that direction, each step taken with extreme care, the faint sound of snapping branches underfoot sounding particularly jarring in the silent valley.

A tense atmosphere filled the air, like a taut string that could snap at any moment.

"Little Gold, go scout around." I whispered the order. Little Gold, a golden, agile cat that seemed to understand me perfectly, silently leaped off my shoulder and blended into the surroundings.

Xiao Jin was my first tamed beast and my most trusted partner. It has keen perception and stealth ability, making it the best choice for reconnaissance.

Thanks to my shared field of vision with Xiao Jin, I "saw" the dark figure.

He was dressed in a golden beast-taming robe, and was a burly man. He was hiding behind a huge ancient tree, his eyes greedily watching us, and a sinister smile was on his lips.

Judging from the aura emanating from him, he was at least a high-level beast tamer. In this area, only members of the Jin family wore the golden beast taming robe.

Could it be... that they're after us? "It's the Golden Beastmaster," I whispered to Su Yao, "He's hiding behind that ancient tree up ahead, and he seems to have ill intentions."

Upon hearing this, a cold glint flashed in Su Yao's eyes. "The Jin family is indeed restless." Her knuckles turned white as she gripped the spear tightly, and a powerful fighting spirit emanated from her.

In the shared field of vision between me and Xiao Jin, the Beastmaster Jin was taking a whistle from his waist and putting it to his lips. My heart tightened; I knew he was about to summon his beast.

It seemed a fierce battle was inevitable. "Watch out!" I pulled Su Yao behind me, protecting her.

Almost simultaneously, a sharp whistle shattered the tranquility of the valley, and a dark shadow darted out from the depths of the forest, rushing towards us... It was a massive black bear, exuding a ferocious aura, its scarlet eyes filled with bloodlust.

I took a deep breath, my gaze fixed firmly on the black bear, thinking to myself: It seems I have no choice but to show some real strength today... Su Yao pressed down on my shoulder and whispered, "Let me handle this."

The black bear roared and charged, a foul stench assaulting my senses. I was about to summon my tamed beast when Su Yao grabbed my shoulder.

“Let me do it.” She said firmly, her eyes sparkling with eagerness. I nodded and took a step back.

Su Yao flashed forward, shooting out like an arrow released from a bow. The spear in her hand danced like a dragon, its tip gleaming with a sharp, cold light, aiming straight for the black bear's throat.

Although the black bear was enormous, it appeared clumsy and awkward in the face of Su Yao's swift movements. It swung its huge paws in an attempt to defend itself, but Su Yao easily dodged them all.

The spear, like a venomous snake's tongue, pierced the black bear's body again and again, leaving bloody marks. The Golden Beastmaster, hiding behind the tree, had a grim expression, clearly not expecting Su Yao to be so powerful.

He snorted and blew the whistle again. Another beast sprang out of the woods—a porcupine covered in sharp quills, the quills on its back as sharp as steel needles.

It and the black bear flanked Su Yao, surrounding her in the middle. Despite the attack from both beasts, Su Yao remained unfazed.

She moved nimbly between the two beasts, her spear flashing like a dancing silver snake, each attack precise and deadly.

During the battle, Su Yao would occasionally glance back at me, her eyes filled with trust and determination. Those eyes seemed to say that she would always protect me, no matter what danger we faced.

My heart skipped a beat, and a warm feeling washed over me. I knew I couldn't stay hidden behind Su Yao forever. I took a deep breath, preparing to summon my summoned beast to join the battle.

Just then, the Golden Beastmaster finally couldn't hold back any longer and made his move. He flashed and appeared in front of Su Yao, a golden longsword in his hand radiating a dazzling light.

"Hmph, a little girl like you dares to be arrogant in front of me!" the Golden Beastmaster sneered, his long sword carrying a sharp sword aura as he thrust it straight at Su Yao's chest.

Su Yao remained calm and composed, twirling her spear to block the Golden Beastmaster's attack. A crisp metallic clang echoed through the valley, sparks flying.

The Beastmaster's expression changed slightly, clearly not expecting Su Yao to be able to block his attack. He swung his sword again, and the sword light poured down like a waterfall, enveloping Su Yao.

Su Yao wielded her spear, forming an impenetrable defense that blocked all of the Golden Beastmaster's attacks.

After a few exchanges, the Golden Beastmaster realized that Su Yao was not easy to deal with, and his expression became even more gloomy. He snorted coldly and retreated rapidly, returning to behind the tree.

"Hmph, consider yourself lucky!" The Golden Beastmaster uttered a harsh remark before disappearing into the depths of the forest. I knew he wouldn't let it go so easily.

Su Yao put away her spear, walked to my side, and asked with concern, "Are you alright?" I shook my head and said, "I'm fine, thanks to you."

Su Yao smiled and said, "Let's go, we shouldn't stay here any longer." We left the valley and headed towards the trading market.

I know the Golden Beastmaster will come again, and we must improve our strength as soon as possible to meet the challenges ahead.

"There are too many people..." I said softly, my gaze sweeping over the bustling crowd. Su Yao tightened her grip on my hand. "Be careful, don't get separated."
