Even hybrid monsters have their day

It's said that darkness is a breeding ground for crime. So, what I meant by "strolling around" was actually just walking around and looking to see if I could find anything unusual.

The city was a little better at night than other places, after all, it was a central city. Almost every road was lit up with streetlights. Although it was dim, Geng Miaowan was moved for a long time. Finally, she didn't have to walk in the dark anymore.

As she walked, lost in thought, she suddenly sensed an unusual movement in the air behind her. She whirled around to look, but saw nothing. Only the pale, shimmering light reflecting off the smooth, wide pavement of the dimly lit road.

Geng Miaowan turned around in confusion and continued running. Suddenly, she felt another strange airflow behind her. She turned around again, but there was still nothing there.

"That's strange..." she muttered to herself, then continued walking forward.

At that moment, she felt another surge of air, turned around abruptly, and saw a dark figure quickly disappear into the street next to her.

"Who?" She took off after him.

The dark figure moved incredibly fast; even holding her breath, Geng Miaowan could barely keep up. After running past several intersections, the figure turned into a small alley. She didn't stop and followed him into the alley.

The alley was narrow and dark, without streetlights. After taking a few steps, a gust of wind struck the back of her head with force, like a weapon being fired. She nimbly ducked to avoid the attack and quickly retaliated.

The man was extremely skilled; if she hadn't practiced regularly, she probably would have been knocked down on the first hit. Even so, she only managed to hold out for a short while before being struck by a spinning kick, sending her crashing to the side.

With a "thud," it hit the nearby trash can and rolled onto the ground.

The fall made her see stars. Knowing she was in trouble, she stood up without pausing and turned to run out of the alley. Little did she know, someone was standing behind her. Her run was tantamount to delivering herself right in front of that person.

Before she could stop herself, the man delivered a swift chop to her neck, and she lost consciousness.

When Geng Miaowan woke up, it was already daylight. She opened her eyes, her mind still hazy from just waking up. She stared blankly at the beige ceiling and the beautiful, exquisite crystal chandelier above her.

Suddenly, she sat up abruptly, looked around, and realized she was in a hotel room. If it weren't for the lingering dull ache in her head from the impact, she would have almost thought that what happened last night was a dream.

How did she end up in a hotel room? Who were those people last night? They knocked her unconscious, but then took her back to the hotel. Why? Did Huangfu Aoxuan and Xu Ruwen rescue her later?

Geng Miaowan was filled with questions. She needed to find them immediately and get to the bottom of things. Her overwhelming doubts made her forget that she could call out to them through her mental space, since they lived in the room next to hers.

She quickly dressed, opened the door to look for the two of them, but saw Qiu Pi about to leave at the door.

"You're awake. Did you rest well yesterday?" Qiu Pi smiled gently as soon as he saw her. He was wearing a blue striped suit with a matching tie, looking very smart and handsome.

Geng Miaowan stopped abruptly, not expecting to run into him, and for a moment didn't know how to answer him. She just blankly replied, "I slept quite well."

Qiu Pi smiled, as if relieved by confirmation. "That's good. I'm going to have breakfast now, do you want to come with me?"

“I…” Geng Miaowan closed the door and gave him an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry, I’d like to wait for my friend to eat with me.”

"It's alright, I was being presumptuous. I'll go eat now." He smiled and left, not caring at all.

Huangfu Aoxuan and Xu Ruwen shared a room. When Geng Miaowan arrived, Huangfu Aoxuan was sitting on the sofa eating ice cream, while Xu Ruwen was reading the newspaper beside him. Upon seeing her, Huangfu Aoxuan took a bite of ice cream and said, "Girl, what time did you get back last night?"

"What? Didn't you bring me back?" Geng Miaowan exclaimed in surprise. Her words made Huangfu Aoxuan and Xu Ru look up at her at the same time, unsure if her words meant what they thought.

Xu Ruwen turned the newspaper he had been looking at back over. "When Aoxuan and I came back, we passed by your room and found you were already inside. We called you a few times but you didn't answer, so we thought you were too tired and had fallen asleep."

“That’s strange…” Geng Miaowan walked to the refrigerator, took out an ice cream, and sat down on the sofa as she opened it. She told them what had happened last night, and they all looked surprised.

Huangfu Aoxuan didn't even notice that the ice cream scoop had fallen from his hand. "And then?"

Geng Miaowan scooped a spoonful of ice cream into her mouth and said calmly, "Then I woke up and found myself in my room."

Xu Ruwen almost jumped up. "Have you checked your physical condition? I remember seeing a news report last time that there are many cases of people being kidnapped and their organs sold in human society."

Geng Miaowan rolled her eyes at him, "You're talking about that space from last time, okay? What era is this? Organs can be cultivated here, and they're not expensive. Anyone who wants to kidnap people can sell them."

He thought about it and agreed, so he sat back down.

"That's strange. We're new here and haven't made any enemies. Why would those people suddenly attack you?"

This was precisely what Geng Miaowan found strange. Most importantly, after attacking her, why were they able to return her to the hotel unharmed? She had checked herself before coming and hadn't noticed anything amiss.

The three of them huddled in the room discussing for a long time but couldn't come to a conclusion, so they had to give up. However, they felt that since those people had taken action, they wouldn't have just sent the person back without doing anything; they must have overlooked something.

They decided to go back to the place where she had the accident yesterday to see if they could find any clues. They also decided they had to be more careful in the future, and absolutely not give anyone another opportunity to take advantage of them. (To be continued.)
