Chapter 249 Birdman?
However, Huangfu Aoxuan and Xu Ruwen both gave her a strange look, "What's that smell?"
"I can't quite put my finger on it, but something just feels off." Then she shrugged. "Never mind, maybe it's just my imagination. Let's see how we get out of here."
Half an hour later, Geng Miaowan couldn't help but complain that it would have been better if she had reappeared on the mountaintop; at least she could have reached the bottom by simply walking downhill. But this place turned out to be a forest, and after walking for over half an hour, they had only made a small step forward. Moreover, for some unknown reason, although their spiritual power wasn't restricted, they couldn't use it at all in this forest and could only rely on their two legs.
Fortunately, they are not human and possess extraordinary physical abilities that normal humans do not have. Although they cannot unleash spiritual power, they can still increase their speed by using the true energy within their bodies.
The group disregarded everything and dashed off in one direction.
Suddenly, a dark figure in the distance darted off in another direction at superhuman speed, flashing past and disappearing from their sight.
"what is that?"
Xu Ruwen: "It looks like a bird..." because he had just seen wings that only birds have.
Geng Miaowan: "Such a big bird..."
Huangfu Aoxuan: "It feels like a person..." because he sensed the human aura emanating from him.
She chuckled. "So it's a birdman?"
Seeing that the thing was flying in the direction they had just come from, Xu Ruwen asked, "Should we follow it and take a look?"
Geng Miaowan thought for a moment, then shook her head. "Forget it, we've gone so far already, we might not even be able to catch up. Let's go find our mission target instead."
Xu Ruwen didn't insist, but Huangfu Aoxuan gave her a cool look, scrutinizing her closely. His eyes even held a hint of mockery, "Are you sure you can find the mission target?"
Geng Miaowan thought about the mission description she had received, and her expression turned grim.
The mission briefing consisted of only one sentence: A shocking conspiracy is taking shape, and humanity is about to become slaves to darkness.
When she received the mission, she immediately went to see Jiao Lingfeng. How could she possibly complete such a seemingly random task? Jiao Lingfeng's answer was that the mission concerned the life and death of humanity in that space. If they waited until it was fully revealed before sending anyone, it might be too late. Therefore, the best approach was to send someone there before anything amiss occurred, and nip any signs of trouble in the bud.
She asked him how he could be so sure she could handle such a significant and incredibly challenging task as a relationship. His answer was that he had high hopes for her.
At that moment, Geng Miaowan was so angry she wanted to flip the table. Who would have thought he would keep an eye on things!
An hour and a half later, the three of them finally emerged from the forest. They thought they would have to walk a long way to reach a nearby city, but to their surprise, they saw a city as soon as they reached the edge of the forest.
All three were stunned by the unexpected scene: on one side, a primeval forest brimming with the essence of nature; on the other, a massive, modern metropolis. Separated only by what appeared to be a wire mesh barrier, the two sides were worlds completely different.
"~" Geng Miaowan couldn't help but exclaim in surprise.
Because it was night, by the moonlight she could see the towering buildings reaching into the clouds, their simple, clear lines grand yet elegant. Perhaps because it was night, the city was very quiet, with very few vehicles on the road, let alone pedestrians.
What puzzled Geng Miaowan was that there wasn't a single neon light in the entire city, not even any lightboxes or billboards. Only the tall buildings casting long shadows under the moonlight, and the occasional car headlights that would light up as it passed by.
Humanity will become slaves to darkness...
The sentence suddenly popped into her mind. Could this be what it meant?
The netting surrounding the forest seemed to be made of a special material, gleaming with a cold, metallic sheen in the darkness. Just as the group was about to climb up, a small mouse darted out from somewhere and crashed into the net with a "whoosh." A few squeaks followed. The little mouse struggled for a moment, then rolled over belly-up, its body twitching slightly.
"It seems climbing won't work," Xu Ruwen said softly.
Geng Miaowan silently withdrew her outstretched hand, genuinely startled. She had almost ended up lying on the ground, convulsing. It seemed this was definitely not an ordinary silk net.
She then noticed a huge sign hanging above the net, written in bright red liquid: "Wild animals in the area, do not touch!" Below the words was a peculiar symbol that seemed to warn people that touching it would be fatal.
The group walked a short distance to the right along the netting and found an iron gate not far ahead, presumably for people to enter and exit, but the gate was tightly closed.
There were two guard posts, one inside and one outside the gate, with several men holding rifles sitting inside. Judging from their expressions, they were clearly specially trained.
Geng Miaowan stopped Huangfu Aoxuan, who was about to leave, and squatted down beside him. This inexperienced Cerberus looked at her with a puzzled expression, "What's wrong?"
Xu Ruwen, who had already been hiding to the side, spoke up, "Are you stupid? This fence is supposed to prevent wild animals from coming out, but if it's really just to prevent wild animals from coming out, is it necessary to build the fence so high? Besides, to prevent wild animals, you can just close the gate, so why set up so many guard posts, and they are professionally trained."
After hearing what he said, Huangfu Aoxuan also felt that something was wrong.
Geng Miaowan: "Shh... there's movement."
Everyone's gaze was fixed on the gate not far away, where a truck was conducting an inspection. As soon as the truck drove in, the gate was immediately closed again.
The truck was modified to be small and narrow, making it well-suited for driving in densely wooded areas.
I never expected there would be a path leading into the forest. What is it for?
Because the defenses were very tight, and they couldn't find any other way out, they could only wait for an opportunity here, and that wait lasted for several days.
On the fourth day, Geng Miaowan and the others finally emerged from the forest, hiding under the truck. (To be continued.)
