Even hybrid monsters have their day

Chapter 196 Descending the Mountain

The man in black seemed hesitant and didn't speak, but instead cautiously walked towards her step by step, getting closer and closer. Geng Miaowan immediately sensed something was wrong, and with a burst of energy, she tried to leap out to see if she could escape.

At this moment, Luan Hao suddenly spoke up to warn, "Be careful."

In the blink of an eye, a dark figure darted to her side without making a sound. He pulled her close and covered her mouth before she could scream.

"Hmm..." She struggled to look up, and what she saw was a pair of icy blue eyes, and his handsome eyebrows were slightly furrowed. He ignored her, and with his free hand, he fiddled with something beside him. A rabbit darted away from his feet, passed in front of the man in black, and disappeared in a flash.

The man in black seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and turned to leave the woods. Only after he was sure he was far away did he release his grip on Geng Miaowan's hand.

"Qiu Pi, what are you doing here?" Geng Miaowan asked in surprise at the person who appeared before her.

Qiu Pi clenched his hands, his palms still seemingly warm from her breath, a sensation that made him slightly lost in thought. It wasn't until Geng Miaowan urged him again that he suddenly realized, "I heard some noise outside, so I came out to check, and I didn't expect to follow you all the way here."

Geng Miaowan pointed to the empty space. "So, you saw those two people from earlier too?"

Qiu Pi nodded.

"Do you know who they are?" Geng Miaowan was very curious about their identities. She wanted to know who they were that would do something so disgraceful to their sect.

Qiu Pi shook his head. "It's too far. I don't dare to get close for fear of being discovered. Besides, that person is very cautious. I saw that his face was covered with a black cloth. Obviously, he doesn't want others to recognize him."

"You can get up now," Luan Hao suddenly reminded him.

Geng Miaowan then realized that she had been leaning against Qiu Pi's chest the whole time, and immediately felt a flush on her face. Feeling embarrassed, she stood up. However, because she had been squatting for too long, her legs were a little numb. When she stood up, she lost her balance and fell to the side, landing right in Qiu Pi's arms.

The way she looked at it made it seem like she was throwing herself into someone's arms.

"Thank you." She lowered her head slightly and tried to stand up on her own.

Qiu Pi seemed oblivious to her embarrassment, casually helping her up before letting go and turning his head away expressionlessly. "It's getting late, let's go back."

The next day, Geng Miaowan went to see Miao Renfeng alone, only to be told that he had gone down the mountain. She rushed to the mountain gate, but couldn't find a trace of him. For some reason, she felt a little worried about his trip down the mountain, a vague unease settling in her heart.

On their way back, they ran into Ershan, who was just coming out. As soon as Ershan saw Geng Miaowan, he quickly bowed and respectfully greeted her, "Miss Geng."

Although she had asked him many times not to treat her with special courtesy, she didn't know how he had been taught by Miao Renfeng over the past thirty years, and now he was practically a second Miao Renfeng, rigid, strict, and completely disregarding her words. He continued to do as he pleased, letting her do her own thing.

She went to great lengths to get him to stop using honorifics with her, but his attitude towards her remained completely unchanged.

But she didn't have time to argue with him right now. She called out to him, "Do you know why your master went down the mountain?"

“This…” Ershan looked at Geng Miaowan with difficulty.

"What? Can't you tell me?"

Seeing the displeasure on her face, he quickly shook his head and said, "No. It's not that I can't tell you, but I don't know why he went down the mountain either."

Geng Miaowan stared straight at him with eyes as dark as the night, "Really?"

"Really." Ershan looked away, a little embarrassed by his gaze. "This morning, Grandmaster Uncle came to find him in a hurry. They talked about something in the room, and then Master hurriedly went down the mountain."

Grand Uncle... Yin Qianze? "What does he want with your master?"

"Well... I don't know either," Ershan said, still looking troubled.

"Really?"

Seeing that Geng Miaowan seemed determined to get to the bottom of things and wouldn't give up until she found out, Ershan sighed almost inaudibly, "Miss Geng, please don't make things difficult for me. I really don't know what Grand Uncle and Master said to each other, or why Master Xiang came down the mountain."

"Okay, I understand." Geng Miaowan stared at him for a while before turning her head away and continuing, "If you don't know, you don't know. Why do you look at me like I'm going to eat you up?"

Ershan glanced at her, thinking to himself, "The way she acted just now, it was as if she wanted to devour him."

However, he didn't dare to say it aloud, so he could only bow respectfully to her again and say, "If Miss Geng has nothing else to say, then I will take my leave."

Geng Miaowan nodded, and Ershan breathed a sigh of relief as he walked towards the training ground. After passing by her, he secretly wiped the sweat from his brow. But before he had taken three steps, she called out to him, "Wait."

Ershan stopped and turned back to ask, "Is there anything else, Miss Geng?"

She paused for a moment, unsure of why she had called him over. After a while, she said, "Your master isn't on the mountain these days, so you need to be extra careful about safety there and make sure nothing goes wrong."

Upon hearing that she was referring to this instead of continuing to ask about Miao Renfeng's descent from the mountain, Ershan immediately understood. His face, which was slightly etched with wrinkles, broke into a smile, and he replied in a relaxed but serious tone, "Thank you for reminding me, Miss Geng. I will keep it in mind."

Geng Miaowan nodded and left.

Unable to find Miao Renfeng, and with no interest in doing anything else, she returned to her room and sat there, lost in thought.

Qiu Pi arrived shortly after, and the first thing he asked her was, "Have you spoken to Sect Leader Miao?"

Geng Miaowan shook her head. "He went down the mountain."

"Down the mountain?" A hint of disappointment flashed across Qiu Pi's face. "What a coincidence..."

“Yes.” Geng Miaowan was lost in her own thoughts, unaware of the change in his expression. “What a coincidence…” she unconsciously repeated his words. Then, as if remembering something, she added, “I don’t know why, but I have a feeling of unease, like something is about to happen.” (To be continued.)
