Chapter 17 Is Little White a Demon?
"It was just a coincidence, no need for thanks." Xu Ruwen laughed and said, "Miss, you don't need to call me Xu the Swordsman anymore, it sounds strange. Just call me Ruwen."
His words were quite cheerful and straightforward.
Hearing him say that, Geng Miaowan smiled back and said, "Then I'll call you Brother Ruwen. You don't need to call me Miss Geng anymore, just call me Wan'er."
“Alright.” Xu Ruwen glanced at the sky and then said, “In that case, Wan’er, come with me on my journey.”
Geng Miaowan nodded.
Xu Ruwen took the right-hand path, and Geng Miaowan followed him for a few steps before realizing that Xiaobai hadn't followed. She turned around and saw it standing there watching her.
She called it over, and it took a step forward, sniffed for a while, then stopped, its gaze fixed on the darkness at the end of the road. Suddenly, it barked a few times and ran off down the path to the left.
"Hey, Xiaobai, Xiaobai..." Xiaobai ignored Geng Miaowan's calls and disappeared in no time.
Seeing that Xiaobai had disappeared, Geng Miaowan quickly turned around to chase after him, but Xu Ruwen grabbed her arm. "Wan'er, what's wrong?"
"Little Whitey ran away, I need to go find it."
"It's just a puppy, let it go. If you like it, I'll give you an even better one when we get to the foot of Qingshan Mountain."
“That’s different. Xiaobai is usually very well-behaved.” As she spoke, she struggled. “Ruwen, let me go. I want to go find Xiaobai.”
But the arm gripping her felt incredibly heavy, and no matter how hard she struggled, she couldn't break free. She looked at him in confusion, but because it was dark, she didn't see anything flash across his eyes.
"I'm sorry, I was being presumptuous. I was just worried that it would be dangerous for you to go alone on such a dark road." Xu Ruwen let go of her hand and said slowly, "Let me go with you."
Geng Miaowan nodded and chased after him along the path to the left, disappearing into the faint darkness of the night.
After she had walked away, Xu Ruwen turned back to look at the locust tree at the other end of the village, a cryptic smile playing on his lips, before chasing after the direction in which Geng Miaowan had disappeared.
After Xu Ruwen disappeared, a blue light flashed at the once deserted edge of the village. The old man looked worriedly at the spot where they had disappeared, shook his head, sighed, and then vanished again.
"Little White, Little White..."
"Little White, Little White..."
Geng Miaowan finally found Xiaobai in a small grove of trees. It was standing under a tree with its back to her, its head moving back and forth, seemingly doing nothing.
"Little White? Little White, what are you doing?" She slowly approached it, but after seeing the scene in front of her, she screamed "Ah!" and took several steps back in fright.
There, Little White was happily gnawing on a large piece of flesh, some kind of unknown substance, dripping with blood. Her scream caught Little White's attention, and it turned to look at Geng Miaowan.
Its mouth was full of blood, with streaks of blood dripping from the corners. It exuded a menacing aura, its eyes fixed on Geng Miaowan with unusual ferocity. It crouched slightly, letting out low growls, mirroring its reaction to the dark cat spirit it had encountered before, even more ferocious. Despite being just a small dog, the aura it emanated instilled in Geng Miaowan a strange sense of fear.
"Xiaobai?" Geng Miaowan called it tentatively again. Although she knew that the little white dog in front of her was Xiaobai, it looked completely different. The fierce and sharp aura of Xiaobai was worlds apart from its gentleness.
Xiao Bai looked at her with disdain in its eyes, which turned into ruthlessness and a hint of mockery when it heard her call out "Xiao Bai". It suddenly leaped up and used its momentum to knock Geng Miaowan to the ground.
It stepped on her, lowered its head to look at her, and made a disgruntled gurgling sound in its throat.
"Little White?" A voice rang in Geng Miaowan's mind. It was a hoarse voice, almost aged, yet not unpleasant to hear, like the sound of the turning wheel of time. "Foolish human, do you even deserve to be my master?"
Geng Miaowan clearly heard the voice in her mind and looked at Xiaobai in utter astonishment. She could hear the voice of the purple mist before; at least the purple mist existed within her body, which she could understand. But what was wrong with Xiaobai? Could it be that everything here could communicate with people through their minds?
This clearly doesn't make sense.
Master? Thinking of those two words Xiaobai uttered, and considering its ability to communicate with her mentally, combined with these two points and some descriptions she'd seen in TV dramas and novels from her past life, a rather far-fetched idea suddenly popped into her head: "Could it be... that you've signed a contract with me?"
But this seems even more illogical, because she has no recollection of ever signing a contract with this little thing.
The moment she uttered the word "contract," Xiao Bai's aura shifted abruptly, his eyes flashing with even more ferocity. He bared his teeth and moved closer to her, his hot breath spraying onto her face. He stared at her, as if he wanted to burn two holes in her skin.
Seeing that it looked like it wanted to eat her alive, Geng Miaowan struggled to get the little white dog off her. It was just a small dog, but it felt like it weighed a ton; no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't push it away.
A strong, metallic smell of blood entered her chest with its breath, and Geng Miaowan immediately felt as if boiling water was churning inside her, threatening to overflow at any moment. Suppressing the turmoil in her heart, she slowly turned her head to one side.
The blood from the unknown creature at the corner of Xiaobai's mouth, mixed with its saliva, dripped onto Geng Miaowan's neck, leaving a long, bright red mark on her fair skin. The bright red mark undulated slightly with the pulsation of her carotid artery, looking extremely alluring.
At least that's what Xiaobai thought at the moment. It stuck out its tongue and licked her neck a few times. The rough tongue rubbed against the delicate skin on Geng Miaowan's neck, and its sharp teeth were positioned over the arteries. With just a little force, it could pierce them and deliver a fatal blow.
Thinking of the mangled pieces of flesh under the tree, Geng Miaowan swallowed hard and said with some difficulty, "Well... if we have something to say, why don't we sit down and talk it out?"
Before Xiaobai could react, a clear and gentle voice rang out, "Demon, let go of that girl!"
