Even hybrid monsters have their day

Chapter 162 Return to the Underworld

Aside from Geng Miaowan herself and Luan Hao inside her body, no one knew what Zheng Xiuxiu had said to her. Seeing her lost in thought, Xu Ruwen reminded her, "What are you daydreaming about?"

She then snapped out of her daze, as if waking from a dream. What Zheng Xiuxiu had told her was too shocking, making her eager to understand the situation. Her arrival in this space was accidental; how did Peng Yuxian know she would be here, and why on the day he mentioned?

The time and place both match, so it would be too much of a coincidence to explain it away.

During this time, although the spaces she passed through were all different, she felt as if someone was holding an invisible thread, connecting them all. These unseen connections made her deeply uneasy, as if something big was about to happen.

She wanted to find him and get to the bottom of things, but the world was so vast, where could she possibly look?

With a slight sigh, Geng Miaowan composed herself and decided to take things one step at a time.

Before leaving this space, she went to Zheng Cunsheng's house again and told him that Zheng Xiuxiu had been reincarnated. Zheng Cunsheng was so moved that he burst into tears and knelt down to kowtow to her.

Not long after they left, a black figure landed on the open ground where Geng Miaowan and the others had been standing just moments before, right where the legendary purgatory cave had been.

He went into the cave as usual, and rushed out in an instant, glaring angrily at his surroundings with a ferocious expression. "Who? Who did this?"

The man roared to the sky, his voice filled with intense resentment. The pale moonlight shone down, illuminating his exceptionally handsome face, his icy blue eyes gleaming with a cold, alluring light.

When Geng Miaowan led Xu Ruwen and Huangfu Ao out of the Anywhere Door, it caused quite a stir, and she herself was quite surprised. The reason was simple: the Chujiang Palace was overflowing with people; almost all of its guardians were still at headquarters.

Although Geng Miaowan was a newcomer, she was already well-known in the Chujiang Palace. So even those who had never seen her in person had seen her photo in the member files, and therefore the guardians didn't show much reaction when they saw her.

Needless to say, Xu Ruwen came from Kuangyu. When he was taken in as a pet by Geng Miaowan, it caused quite a stir. Some curious people had already tried every means to see his true face.

There were only three people in their group. Since the first two were not the ones, the one causing the commotion was naturally the remaining one—Huangfu Aoran. Putting aside the fact that he was a new face, his burly physique alone was enough to draw attention.

To avoid causing a bigger commotion, she decided to take them back to their residence first, while she also wanted to go to her office to find out what had happened.

"Miao Wan..." A familiar voice came from behind them as they walked to the elevator.

Geng Miaowan turned around and saw Jin Mo. "Captain Jin, how did you know I was back?"

Jin Mo didn't exchange more than a few pleasantries with her before telling her that Jiao Lingfeng was looking for her. As he spoke, he glanced at Huangfu Aoran standing next to her, adding, "And him too."

"Him?" Geng Miaowan looked at Huangfu Aoran with a puzzled expression. He had only just arrived in the Underworld, so why did she have to personally summon him?

Upon hearing that he had nothing to do with it, Xu Ruwen stretched lazily and said in a relaxed tone, "Then you guys go ahead, I'm going back to sleep first."

On her way to Jiao Lingfeng's office, Geng Miaowan inquired about the situation in the Underworld from Jin Mo. "What's going on today? Why are all the guardians in the hall? Aren't they out on any missions?"

This is clearly impossible. Just a few days ago, when she went on a mission, Jiao Lingfeng mentioned that they were short-handed and told her to be quick and efficient when carrying out missions, and not to drag things out.

Jin Mo walked straight ahead without looking to either side. "The Anywhere Door had a problem. It went wrong when teleporting to the mission location, so everyone came back. Don't tell me your mission location was correct?"

Jin Mo's face showed an expression that said, "Even if you say it's true, I won't believe it."

"It turns out everyone's mission location was sent incorrectly. I thought it was just me making a mistake. Do you know what happened?"

He shook his head. "I don't know. The higher-ups' attitude towards this matter is very mysterious, making it impossible to guess." After a long pause, he spoke again, "However, something like this has never happened before. Perhaps... the underworld is about to change."

After he finished speaking, he looked up and stared at a certain spot for a long time, as if he could see the always gray sky of the underworld from there.

As they spoke, the three arrived at Jiao Lingfeng's office door. Geng Miaowan knocked on the door and led Huangfu Aoran into the office.

As soon as Huangfu Aoran entered the office, he went straight to the largest single sofa in the office and sat down. The large sofa even seemed a bit crowded when he sat down.

When Jiao Lingfeng looked up, he saw the man lounging lazily on the sofa, casually surveying the office and glancing at him. After a brief eye contact, Jiao Lingfeng looked away first.

Although he didn't want to admit it, he had to admit that Huangfu Aoran's gaze made him feel uneasy, and even a little oppressed.

He couldn't help but wonder to himself, what was this person's background?

"I remember the Guardian Code clearly states that no one may bring outsiders back to the Underworld Headquarters for any reason." Since he couldn't ask the person directly, he could only ask this subordinate who was several ranks below him.

Although Jiao Lingfeng's tone was not as stern as if he were interrogating someone, it was still serious enough to be ignored.

From the moment Jiao Lingfeng began sizing up Huangfu Aoran, she had a premonition that his main target today was Huangfu Aoran, and she was just a side effect. Now that he had spoken, it confirmed her suspicions.

When she entered the headquarters, she sensed a few familiar faces making furtive phone calls. It seems that no matter where you are, those who spread tabloids are always quick and accurate.

It's no wonder those people wanted to use this as leverage to punish her. Last time, she secretly took Xu Ruwen as a pet, and although it was suppressed by her superiors because of her special status, the fact that she could bring Xu Ruwen into and out of houses without fear naturally attracted a lot of attention and dissatisfaction.

One time is enough, but not twice. This time, many people probably want to use this as an excuse to see her make a fool of herself. However, those people shouldn't get their hopes up this time, because Huangfu Aoran isn't one of the outsiders at all. (To be continued.)
