Rebirth: I Became a Maggot 2
Chapter 41 The Feeling of Despair
I thought I had victory in the bag, and I even cursed the red ant in my mind for being so stupid as to not attack sooner.
But to my utter surprise, those damned red ants actually colluded with those infamous termites.
When I heard this news, my mind went completely blank. How am I supposed to type this?
This is pushing me towards my doom.
"Yimao Er, are you alright? What happened?" Dafu, who was next to me, asked anxiously.
"N-nothing... I'm just a little dizzy," I said, sounding a bit dazed.
"What do we do now?" Dafu asked worriedly, sitting next to me.
"What can we do? What else can we do? They're bullying us right at our doorstep, what else can we do? Fight them!" I shouted angrily.
It's really frustrating. I've been bullied the whole way. I'm so surprised that I'm going to have a proper fight. I can't believe that after watching so many action movies on TV, I can't even beat a few little ants.
"All ants, listen to my command!" I shouted loudly to the ants below.
I was completely desperate. When I was driven to the brink of despair, I unleashed a ruthless streak from the bottom of my heart. The worst that could happen was death.
"Here!" the ants below shouted loudly.
"Return to your posts immediately, preferably behind the chewing gum, and try to eliminate as many enemies as possible with our defenses. The more you eliminate immediately, the fewer enemies you will face in the final battle."
"Yes."
"Go back now and prepare for battle."
"Yes."
As soon as the ants below answered, they immediately crawled back to their posts. Now only Dafu and I are left. Even the soldier and the leader ant have gone to join the battle.
There's no need to protect me now, because they can't even protect their home, so what's the point of protecting me?
I slowly climbed to the edge of the tree and looked down. I saw that the trunk below was surrounded by several rings of colorful chewing gum, serving as the first line of defense against the red ants' attack.
The chewing gum stood like a life-or-death defensive line between our army and the enemy army; any ant that wanted to climb up had to climb over the chewing gum.
As soon as a horn sounded below, the red and white figures below immediately climbed upwards, just like the red figures climbing upwards.
The spectacle and visual effects were absolutely breathtaking, enough to make your scalp tingle. If someone with trypophobia saw this scene, I guarantee they would faint immediately.
And now I'm watching that horrific scene crawl up towards me.
But you ants are ants, how could you have imagined that this was chewing gum that could stick to them?
The first wave of ants that attacked were immediately stuck to the chewing gum, and the more they pricked it, the more firmly it stuck.
Faced with such a terrifying scene, the red and white ants showed no sign of stopping.
They actually charged straight at the chewing gum, just like the scene in the zombie movie I watched before, where countless zombies filled the way for the zombies behind them.
And that's exactly what the ants are doing now. It's just that, whether those ants see orders as life itself or for some other reason, they don't seem to feel any fear or anything else. They just keep charging forward.
If your companion is stuck, step on your companion's body; if you are stuck, have the person behind you step on you.
Faced with the frenzied onslaught of red and white ants, the chewing gum was soon covered in them.
The ring around the tree trunk looked like a black burl growing on the tree, and all the ants rushed up to it after crossing the black burl.
They came with overwhelming force; a great battle was imminent. To charge would mean certain death, to retreat would mean certain death.
"For the Queen!" Just as the red ants broke through our first line of defense, the black ant leading the charge roared loudly and was the first to rush forward.
"For the Queen!" The ants behind them charged towards the termites that had come to attack their home like a million lions.
The battle was incredibly fierce; ants kept falling off the tree, and some even lost limbs in the fight.
But not a single ant fled, not even a single ant retreated.
Because they all know that their home is behind them. If they take a step back, even just half a step, their home may be destroyed. What is the point of an ant living if it doesn't even have a home?
After several minutes of fierce fighting, the red ants and termites finally managed to repel the enemy's first attack and slowly retreated.
Our casualties were also heavy; many had lost limbs, but not a single ant cried out; there was only silence.
An eerie silence fell, for everyone knew this was a battle for survival, one that they could not afford to lose, for defeat meant certain death.
Looking at those ants, I suddenly felt so useless. How could I not be of any help at all? How could such a tragic thing happen to me?
I want to do something, and I'm sure there's still something I can do.
I quickly walked into the warehouse. Once inside, I saw corn and rice. These were all food, things they were protecting with their lives.
I was looking for something that could help them, something usable, but after searching frantically for a while, I still couldn't find anything.
Maybe I didn't look carefully enough? Maybe there's something I missed? There must be something that can help.
I frantically searched inside, but to my disappointment, there was nothing there—just corn kernels and rice.
"Is this really the end for us today?" I lay on the ground, feeling utterly dejected, staring at the warehouse.
"Yimao Er, what's wrong? You look scary." Dafu asked worriedly from the side.
"Dafu, am I really useless? I can't do anything." I asked almost in despair.
“How could that be? You are so different from everyone else. I knew from the first time I saw you that you were not an ordinary maggot. You are sure to have a great future,” Dafu comforted me.
"No matter how great or different, a maggot is still a maggot." I was almost in despair. Was there really nothing I could do to help?
Is this really the end? Am I really going to die here?
Is this all I am left to do?
