Rebirth: I Became a Maggot 2
Chapter 27 Squeezed by the door
Faced with Dafu's answer, I now only want to express my innocence through death. Now I finally understand why those who have been defiled must die.
I'm truly the most qualified to speak on this right now, because I just want to die.
"How could you do such a thing? I trusted you so much." I was in despair. I really regretted saving him in the first place.
Isn't this digging their own grave? They really saved an ungrateful wretch. I looked at Dafu's chubby, fair body; it was indeed quite fair.
"What did I do? When I woke up, I saw you trembling and sweating profusely, muttering something. So I anxiously crawled over to check on you. If you don't know, you can ask this soldier." Dafu explained to me, quite annoyed, and then pointed to the soldier ant next to him.
"Huh?" Hearing this, I immediately perked up. Could it really be a misunderstanding? Did nothing really happen?
"Have you been standing guard here the whole time? Nothing happened between us, right?" I quickly looked at the soldier for help.
“You were asleep in the early hours of the morning, and you’ve been sleeping until now. Nothing happened. We were only attracted here when you were having a nightmare,” the soldier ant, the one Dafu called Brother Soldier, said very seriously.
They probably looked at me like I was crazy.
"Really? Nothing really happened?" I exclaimed excitedly.
"Or do you want something to happen?" the soldier asked, sounding quite annoyed.
"Aha, I'm so happy! Nothing really happened! That's great, that's great!" I almost jumped for joy. This was the best news I'd heard in all this time I'd been a maggot.
Dafu and the soldier are probably looking at me like I'm some kind of monster right now. I was scared to death just a moment ago, but now I'm all happy and carefree. Are they mentally unstable?
I completely ignored their gazes, feeling incredibly happy. As long as nothing happened, as long as nothing happened, I was exceptionally happy.
Suddenly, a question popped into my head, so I quickly asked, "How did you end up here?"
"I'm a soldier ant. I have to protect the nest. There must be soldier ants on duty at the entrance, so I'm here," the soldier replied earnestly.
"Oh, I see. You've really had a hard time." I said happily. Luckily, this soldier was here, otherwise I would have really died without knowing why.
"It's alright, serving the people," the soldier ant suddenly shouted loudly.
A surge of excitement welled up within me. Ants truly are the most united species; there's definitely a reason for their strength.
Now that we're awake and have nothing to do, let's go for a walk. Our biggest goal right now is to become a fly. We've solved the food problem and the safety issue, so all that's left is to wait for the right opportunity.
"Can we go for a walk?" I asked politely.
"You two are honored guests, so of course you are welcome to go out for a walk, but don't go too far. It will be dangerous if you go beyond the boundaries of our lair," the soldier said very sincerely.
"Okay, then let's go for a walk around the neighborhood, look around, and get some sun after we've rested." I said as I climbed out.
"Twenty-two cents, wait for me!" Dafu called out anxiously from behind.
When Dafu called out to me like that, and I remembered what happened in my dream, I suddenly felt like the hairs on my body were about to stand on end.
I still can't quite accept it. Sometimes dreams are just so real! And why haven't I had a single pleasant dream lately?
"Just follow me," I said, and then climbed out.
Dafu followed me and crawled out.
It was indeed night outside. I didn't expect to sleep for an entire day. I must have been really exhausted.
I crawled out of the hole and looked outside. Pairs of black ants, like weightlifting champions, had gathered plenty of food and were slowly crawling back into the hole.
I didn't realize it was already night. In the morning, the ants go out to find food, and at night they carry the food back, then spend the night there before going out to find food again the next day.
Ants' lives are truly simple yet fulfilling. Many of the little ants that walk past me know me, so they shake their antennae as they pass by, as a friendly greeting.
I would just smile and say, "This feels so good. When will the setting sun return? The flowers fall helplessly, but the swallows seem to return as if we've met before."
I never imagined that watching ants returning to their nest would remind me of these words.
"What are you laughing at, 12 cents?" Dafu next to me asked curiously.
"It's nothing, I just feel that being an ant is actually quite nice," I said with a sigh.
There was no backstabbing, no scheming, no arguments or disagreements; all they had was unity and a shared goal of surviving. That simple purpose was what made them so united.
Is it true that sometimes the simpler your goal, the easier your life will be?
"What's so great about ants? We flies are much better off, we can go to many places and eat a lot of delicious food." Dafu said happily, as if he could already see himself going to many places and eating a lot of delicious food.
"Perhaps it's God's compensation for all of that. Before you became flies, didn't you only eat excrement?" I said with a sigh. Heaven really is fair; you get what you lose.
This fly's story is a classic example of overcoming hardship to achieve happiness, right? When it's a maggot, it eats feces, and when it grows up and becomes a fly, it can go around eating delicious food.
"It's almost dinner time, don't talk about such disgusting topics. Do you talk about poop while you're eating?" Mother Maggot Dafu said unhappily.
"Then why do you eat it every day? Why don't you say it's disgusting? Now you're saying it's disgusting?" I said, quite annoyed. This female maggot daifuku is really interesting.
"How can that be the same? When we can eat delicious food, who would want to eat poop? We're just trying to survive." Mother Maggot Dafu said sadly.
Holy crap, this unreliable Dafu actually said something so philosophical at this moment, which surprised me.
Is this still the Dafu I know? It looks like a maggot has appeared; it doesn't look the same at all.
I was really annoyed that Dafu had somehow gotten his head stuck in a door. Why was he being so sentimental today? Isn't he usually so impulsive?
Just then, an ant suddenly rushed out and shouted to the main group ahead, "Oh no! Oh no! Something terrible has happened!"
