Rebirth: I Became a Maggot 2
Chapter 25 Spend the night
I finally escaped from being chased by a few large green caterpillars, but to my utter frustration, I encountered two praying mantises fighting.
The martial arts competition was one thing, but they even dragged me into it. Luckily, they weren't looking to cause me any trouble; they just asked me to deliver a message and then let us go.
After the mantis let me go, Dafu and I quickly started our journey. With those two big mantises blocking our way, I thought the caterpillar probably wouldn't catch up.
I wasn't even in the mood to watch the spectacular fight; all I wanted to do was escape. This place was just too dangerous.
We climbed like crazy, not knowing how long we climbed, until we were so tired that we couldn't move and felt all the fat on our bodies trembling before we finally stopped.
"Huff... Damn it, I finally escaped." I lay limply on the ground, unable to move an inch. I never imagined that my maggot-covered body could crawl so fast.
“One…one cent…one cent and two cents…do you recognize those two praying mantises?” asked the man next to me.
"I don't know him, but he said his brother knows me, so I guess his brother must have mentioned us," I explained.
After resting for a while, we looked around and were surprised to find that we had reached the vicinity of the big banyan tree in the blink of an eye after such a crazy climb.
We immediately crawled towards the ant nest, hoping to get there sooner and be safer, since it was too dangerous for us to be out in the wild anyway.
With victory in sight, we quickly crawled towards the ant nest. In any case, I finally made it home.
We had come here before to deliver a message and had even fought with them, so the ants recognized us. As soon as we arrived, some ants led us to the ant queen.
I'm finally back, finally home safely. Hopefully nothing else will happen now.
I followed the ant inside with a sense of security.
After following the ant for a few minutes, we arrived at the innermost nest and finally met the queen ant who was willing to give us food and turn us into flies.
We can only transform into pupae and then flies after a certain period of time by constantly eating food.
That's why food is so important to us. If Da Da and I were to go out to find food, we don't know when we would be killed by the dangers outside.
Even if we find food, we don't know how long it will last us, and we'll have to go looking for more after we finish eating.
So now that the queen ant is willing to give us food, so that we can become food for flies, it's like she's giving me her life.
Upon seeing the queen ant, I quickly and gratefully said, "Greetings, Your Majesty."
Upon hearing my voice, the queen smiled calmly and said to the ant behind me, "You may leave. I wish to speak with my distinguished guest."
"Yes," the ant that had led us there replied and then left.
After watching the soldier ants leave, the queen ant smiled gently and said, "I didn't expect you to come back so soon. I thought you wouldn't be coming back."
"We have the Queen Ant's blessing to thank for this," I said flatteringly.
After all, I'm here to eat their food. If I don't say something nice or listen to them, why should they help me?
Although I helped them before, it was entirely voluntary; after all, the ants saved my life once.
So relatively speaking, we don't owe each other anything. And this time, the queen ant was willing to help me, I'm truly grateful and don't know what to say.
"Yes, yes, it's so good that you've returned safely. You must have heard from Da Du that I'm willing to help you two until you transform into flies," the queen ant said gently.
"Yes, I heard. Thank you so much this time. Without your help, trying to find food outside would have been suicide," I said gratefully. I was truly grateful.
"I've heard most of what you've been told, and even if I haven't, I know a little bit about it. You're a different kind of maggot. Other maggots only know how to eat feces, but you're different," the queen ant said calmly.
"Thank you for your understanding, Queen Ant," I could only say politely.
"Alright, now that you're back, that's for the best. You can stay here for now. But there's something I need to tell you: we're still at war with the termites. I hope you'll lend a hand when we need it," the queen ant said gently.
"I would die for the Queen Ant." I immediately expressed my loyalty.
"That's good, that's good. You can go now. This will be your home from now on."
"Ok."
As soon as the queen ant came out of her room, a soldier ant immediately walked out of the door.
"Your caves are ready, please go and take a look," the soldier ant said politely.
"Okay, thank you for your trouble," I replied politely.
So, led by the soldier ant, we arrived at a decent cave, at least for the current environment.
It's quite remarkable that there's such a dry place in this underground cave; we'll just have to make do for now.
After so many days of fleeing and being hunted, I can finally get a good night's sleep tonight. I no longer have to worry about waking up in the morning to be carried away by some unknown thing.
"Ah, this is so wonderful, I can finally go to sleep." A loud voice suddenly came from over.
Hearing that sound almost made me explode. What the hell? How could Dafu be next to me? I quickly looked to the side, and there was that maggot Dafu, not far away from me.
"How did you get here?" I exclaimed, seemingly in surprise.
"I've been here all along," she asked, blinking her innocent-looking big eyes in confusion.
"What are you doing here? Did you prepare a room?" I asked in surprise.
"Yeah, it's hard to understand why you want to live separately? Aren't all of your kind supposed to live together?" Before the large ant could answer, the soldier ant who brought us here asked with great confusion.
Oh my god, how am I supposed to explain this? Even though I know nothing will happen, I still feel weird living together.
"Many caves were destroyed in the last battle, so there aren't enough rooms left. This is already the largest dormitory for you, so..." The soldier ant explained somewhat awkwardly, seeing my dissatisfaction.
What can I say? They're already willing to give me food, so it wouldn't be right for me to complain about their accommodations, would it? Besides, they have nowhere else to stay, yet they're giving me a place to stay. If I were to complain, that would be really unreasonable.
But living with that maggot-like creature made me feel uneasy all over.
But since I'd already said all that, I couldn't really ask for anything more, so I said to the soldier ant, "This place is already quite good. Thank you for guiding us."
"You're welcome. If there's nothing else, I'll be going now. The Queen needs me to stay on duty."
"Ok."
After the soldier ants left, only Dafu and I were left staring at each other...
