Rebirth: I Became a Maggot 2

Chapter 11 No Cavities

We slowly crawled inside and found ourselves in a messy room. We didn't know where the bottle containing Daifuku had been put.

"What do we do now?" I asked, puzzled.

"Look for him, what else can we do? Are we supposed to let him run away on his own?" the Thief King Qiang said decisively.

Good grief, do you think I don't know how to look? I only found you here because you seem so good at searching! I thought you had some brilliant methods and solutions. Turns out, it's just a needle-in-a-haystack search!

I was quite frustrated and didn't know what to say. After all, I was asking for a favor, and besides, if I were to search on my own, I didn't know what I would find. I might not have even finished climbing the room by dawn.

"You wait for us here. We'll split up and search in three different directions. Whether we find it or not, we'll come back and meet up, then we'll make further plans." The Thief Saint, as expected of a master at finding things, immediately came up with a good plan.

So the three of them crawled in three different directions. Since I have no hands or feet, let alone finding things, even crawling was a problem, so I was basically not on their radar.

After they left, it became completely quiet here, but I can't just do nothing, can I? Just sit here and wait?

I wanted to do something, so I thought, what can I do to help? After thinking for a while, I realized that I really couldn't do anything.

Damn it, how could I be so unlucky? All I did along the way was run for my life. I didn't do anything at all. Even when I wanted to save Dafu, I had to rely on other people's help. I don't know if I'll ever be able to become human again.

Just as I was feeling lonely and isolated, reflecting on my recent experiences, something suddenly bumped into me from behind. I quickly looked back.

I was so scared when I saw it that I almost screamed. There was a cockroach behind me, lying there.

I was so scared I didn't dare to breathe. It's not like I've never seen cockroaches before. Dafu and I encountered one when we came out of that restroom, but that cockroach was drunk and afraid of its henpecked husband.

The cockroach in front of me is all shiny and oily; it looks like a young cockroach. I'm afraid it came out to find food in the middle of the night.

I practically ran right into its mouth! I'm about to cry. Did this cockroach only come out after Xiao Hei and the others left?

"You...you need something?" I asked, terrified that the cockroach was really coming to eat me.

"What do you mean, 'you'? You're blocking my way, you know? Get out of the way!" the cockroach yelled, clearly annoyed.

"Damn, at least they're not here to eat me!" Hearing the cockroach's words, I immediately felt relieved and quickly backed away. As long as they're not here to eat me, I'd be happy to get out of their way, let alone move aside.

Upon hearing the cockroach's words, I quickly stepped aside, wishing it would leave as soon as possible. Anyway, it didn't matter who it was looking for, as long as it wasn't looking for me.

The cockroach arrogantly scurried to one side, but just as it was about to pass in front of me, it suddenly turned back and asked, "Caterpillar?"

I shook my head in frustration. What's wrong with me? Is that cockroach blind?

"A pet?" the cockroach asked again, puzzled.

"No," I answered softly, then shook my head. Anyway, I shook my head. As for where my head starts, I don't even know, because I don't seem to have a neck.

Besides, only someone with extremely unusual tastes would keep maggots as pets, right? I've heard of spiders, scorpions, and geckos, but I've never heard of anyone keeping maggots as pets.

The cockroach that was about to leave suddenly crawled back towards me...

Holy crap, this scene feels so familiar. Didn't Fairy Zixia ask Supreme Treasure, who hadn't turned into a monkey, whether he was a monster or a god?

Now a cockroach asked me if I was a pet or a caterpillar? After I said neither, it walked towards me? Does this mean I'm about to get three marks on the soles of my feet?

But I don't have any feet! Could that cockroach be some kind of deity? Came to rescue me? I looked at this familiar scene with a sense of anticipation.

But after the cockroach slowly crawled towards me, it said smugly, "Since you're nothing, I can eat you without worry tonight."

Why isn't this going according to plan? What happened to the storyline? Can't we just have some fun? How come I'm not someone they can just eat?

"Why are you eating me?" I was almost in tears. I was just about to leave, why did you suddenly want to eat me? They say women change their minds faster than turning the pages of a book, but this cockroach is definitely a species that surpasses women.

"Caterpillars have butterflies to rely on, and I'm afraid of trouble, so I don't eat them," the cockroach explained slowly, with an attitude that even if it meant my death, it would at least let me die knowing why.

"Then why won't the pet eat?" I almost cried. Does the pet have someone to protect it? Is it telling its owner that the cockroach is bullying it?

"Well, it's not a big deal, but I'm afraid those damn humans will find out that their pets were bitten to death by us. It's too much trouble to buy some cockroach bait and scatter it around, so we basically don't eat our pets." The cockroach actually came up with a reasonable explanation.

"Big brother, please don't eat me! I'm a maggot! I'm a ****!" I cried out anxiously. I've always despised ****, but at this moment I felt that if I didn't say something disgusting, I was really going to die.

"It's alright, only a few of us cockroaches have survived until now," the cockroach said smugly.

"No cavities?"

"Little fatty, you've got some nerve, joking around at a time like this? The only standard by which our cockroach family has survived until now is that we're not picky eaters." The cockroach said smugly, as if its family was its glory.

Holy crap, why does the phrase "not picky about food" sound so outrageous and disgusting? They'd even eat maggots from the macaques! How indiscriminate must they be?

I watched the cockroach crawl towards me, feeling quite frustrated, and could only retreat step by step.

"Don't come any closer, or I'll scream!" I said in a panic. In the past, I would never have said those words, even if you killed me.

But now I've actually blurted out this language that's usually reserved for girls. It's not that I wanted to say it, but my current situation leaves me with no other option.

After all, Little Black, Gecko, and Black Widow are all around. If I shout, they will definitely be saved. But the problem is, if I shout, it will interrupt their search, which is something I don't want to see.
