My Apocalypse: Infinite Rewinds
Chapter 65 For You, Today I Am Willing to Be a Demon
Dark clouds had unknowingly enveloped the azure sky, mercilessly blocking out the warm sunlight. A gloomy, oppressive atmosphere prevailed, and thunderclaps exploded above the clouds, accompanied by the roaring of rolling thunder dragons. Tiny raindrops slowly fell onto the ground, small in size but destined to grow larger, as the sudden downpour was about to wash away all the filth from the earth.
The raindrops fell gently, soaking Li Kai completely in no time. He remained utterly unresponsive to what was happening to him.
"Ugh," Li Kai seemed like an unmoving statue, slightly extending his hand, his throat moving as if trying to say something.
"Hey, answer me, just once!" With a hoarse voice, Li Kai shouted at the top of his lungs, pleadingly.
"There was no other sound except for the sound of rain."
"It must be a joke. Someone as strong as you couldn't possibly be here—" Li Kai muttered to himself, though the crimson blood beneath his feet was vividly reflected in his eyes.
The poignant colors, the lifeless hues, flowed helplessly, with blood red as the dominant hue, gradually sketching out a picture called tragedy.
"Hey, it's right here!" As if from another world, Li Kai could still hear the girl's mischievous voice.
"No! This must be a deceiving illusion!!" The staggering boy trembled as he backed away. Even though the truth was right before his eyes, he refused to believe his eyes. Perhaps it wasn't that he didn't want to believe it, but that he dared not believe it, because once he did, he would collapse!
"Please stop playing around! We have to keep going!" Li Kai said in a pleading tone, his face glistening with what looked like raindrops or tears.
No matter how much the boy shouted, there was still no movement in front of him, a deathly silence, or rather, death itself!
"Why does my heart hurt so much!" Li Kai, who had lost all his strength, knelt on the ground and clutched his chest in pain. He felt shattered and his heart was burning with pain.
"We've only known each other for a few days, we're just passersby, why am I so upset?!" Li Kai pounded the ground, trying to find the reason for his sadness, but even after racking his brains, he couldn't find a reasonable explanation, because sadness itself has no explanation, nor does it need one.
It's not because someone died before my eyes. No, no, I wouldn't be sad. At most, I'd feel a sense of shared sorrow, let alone someone like myself who has died countless times.
I should have known long ago, I should have understood long ago, that living in the apocalypse means death is happening all the time, everyone is fighting for survival, and death is perfectly normal. But...
Why am I still feeling so awful! What is this feeling of suffocation?! What is this heart-wrenching pain?! The boy screamed in his heart again and again.
Mom and Dad, I miss you so much.
The image of the crying girl, "It wasn't me, I really didn't mean to," flashed before my eyes once more. At that moment, I felt such pain and pity for her, because I didn't want to see the same thing happen again.
Yes, because I don't want to see her sadness, because I don't want to see her loneliness, because of her reliance on herself, that familiar, trusting reliance, that unconditional trust in a stranger like herself!
"Why did you have to take it away again?! Someone tell me!!!" The boy, having figured everything out, roared at the sky, his tear-streaked face contorted in the lightning.
"You pervert, you're a filthy lecher!" The girl, her face flushed, pointed angrily at the boy.
"Hey, hey, you said it yourself!" the boy said, rubbing his swollen face.
"Don't poke your head, it'll make you stupid," the girl said, swatting the finger off her forehead in dissatisfaction and pouting.
"You don't seem to be very smart to begin with, do you?" the boy bluntly stated a fact.
"Ah~~ I'm hungry!" The girl clutched her stomach, clearly unhappy.
"Hey, I'm not your servant!" the boy said righteously, though his eyes revealed a hint of doting affection.
"Why won't you kiss me? Am I that hateful?" The tear-streaked girl looked sadly at the helpless boy.
"No, you are very beautiful, I really am." The boy awkwardly scratched his head, unsure of how to respond.
"Wow~~ You can actually drive?" The girl looked at the boy driving with surprise, her blinking eyes revealing curiosity.
"Of course! I'm an all-around genius!" The boy patted his chest proudly.
Scenes from the past flashed before Li Kai's eyes like slides. Everything seemed so dreamlike and warm. It was because he had someone to rely on that he was able to rediscover his former self, the self he didn't want to face.
"But why is it that when I finally made up my mind, reality cruelly took it away again!" The boy, clenching his fists, vented his emotions, which had been suppressed for years, towards the sky.
With a whoosh, Li Kai collapsed to the ground, exhausted, as large raindrops relentlessly pelted his face.
"Roar!!" The long-lost roar suddenly rang in Li Kai's ears, and the scarlet figure was particularly dazzling under the rain.
"If I had answered her properly back then, would she have survived? Would she have appeared?" Li Kai murmured to himself, sensing the extra figure beside him, as if facing an old friend.
A terrifying hissing sound drifted around him, the sound of an animal foraging for food.
"It's a pity there are no 'what ifs' in all of this. There may be many possibilities, but the word 'what if' is not even allowed to appear once!" Li Kai slowly struggled to get up from the ground, an extremely suppressed aura emanating from his body.
"Roar!!" The figure, unable to contain itself any longer, let out a low roar and pounced on Li Kai, the previous food completely failing to satisfy it.
"You couldn't hold back any longer? Heh, a monster is a monster, what a pathetic fellow!" Li Kai looked up at the scarlet figure, a trace of blood still stained his long tongue.
"Even if it's tragic, you can't just wantonly take someone else's life. I know you did it for survival, and even if you hunted down other people, I wouldn't be so angry. But why did you kill her?!" Li Kai roared angrily, his golden pupils completely replacing his original black pupils, and a kingly aura swept out from him.
"No matter what, you are absolutely unforgivable! No matter what, you are absolutely unforgivable!" Looking at the claws so close at hand, Li Kai slowly extended his palm. The moment it made contact with the claws, his palm turned into a fist and he slammed it out.
"Thump!" The crimson figure fell straight to the ground, the cracked earth revealing the power of the attack.
"Idiot! Stop right now!!" The figure hidden in the darkness finally couldn't help but speak up to warn him.
I once swore that I would never care about anyone again, that living carefree like this would be just fine! No need to worry about anything, no need to care about anything, but I broke my promise.
"You can't stop him, and you don't want to, do you?" Silver-white hair slowly appeared at Li Kai's temples, and faint shadows floated behind him.
Hearing Li Kai's words, the figure was unsure how to respond, or perhaps tacitly agreed.
If I were to become a demon today, I would surely overturn the world!
