Infinite: Dawn Game
Chapter 8 Bewitching
A bloody piece of meat was thrown into a porcelain bowl next to the cutting board by the "mother." The white bowl and the red meat together created a nauseating sensation, as if my retina was being violently stimulated.
The "mother" hummed a song as she tore off pieces of flesh from her own body, throwing them one by one into the porcelain bowl.
Then, a boy's voice suddenly rang out from behind.
"Mother,"
Yu Shijiu reached out and pushed open the kitchen door, her round, almond-shaped eyes staring straight at her "mother" who had her back to her, and said:
What are you doing?
The mother's body stiffened.
After a long while, a cracking sound of bones turning echoed from the kitchen. "Mother's" neck twisted violently to her back, and her beautiful, gentle face was splattered with tiny beads of blood.
She smiled at the boy by the kitchen door, her voice still soft:
"baby,"
"Mother," she called out, her tone turning somewhat cold: "You should be studying at this time."
The head, twisted 180 degrees, tilted to the right, and the once gentle lips gradually tore, revealing scarlet gums and sharp teeth.
“You disobeyed,” the “mother” repeated, her mouth agape.
"You've become disobedient again."
"again?"
Yu Shijiu looked curiously at the distorted "mother" in front of him and said with a grin:
"Mom, why did you use the word 'again'? I think I'm quite obedient."
The boy's expression was pleasant and gentle as he spoke, and his tone was so naturally coquettish that even the "mother" hesitated for a moment.
“No,” the distorted “mother” didn’t seem very bright; she shook her head and stubbornly repeated:
“No, you’re disobedient, you,” the mother said, “very disobedient.”
"You shouldn't be in the kitchen; you should be reading."
As if some memory surfaced, "Mother's" eyes turned a terrifying crimson, and tiny beads of blood dripped down her cheeks.
"Only by listening to your mother will you become excellent and ambitious, and only then will you be able to get into the good university you've always dreamed of—"
"No, Mom," Yu Shijiu interrupted her "mother's" rambling, pouting sweetly.
"It's not that I don't read, it's just that,"
The boy's sunken cheeks trembled slightly under the light. He stared at his "mother's" gaze and smiled.
"I'm just... dead."
-
"What the hell?! What exactly is Yu Shijiu trying to do?!"
Xu Han didn't keep up the aloof act this time. He looked at the scene on the screen where the boy smiled and stated the truth, and his eyes were full of shock.
The fat man next to him broke out in even more cold sweat. He grabbed a tissue and hastily wiped away the sweat, then licked his lips.
"This newcomer is really fearless."
With the truth laid bare so bluntly, how could the "mother," who is actually quite eccentric, not be on guard?
"..."
Of the three, only Sister An remained quiet, sprawled on the sofa, yawned, and mumbled through a sticky munch:
“Not necessarily,” Anjie said, “but he does seem to have little patience.”
Besides the three people in the room, many players who didn't have the savings to stay in the room gathered in the lobby, crowding together to look at the smiling boy on the big screen, dumbfounded.
"My goodness!"
A girl with pigtails was clutching her chest, panting, her eyes flashing eerily.
"Wow, he's really strong! If this guy makes it out alive, I'm definitely going to team up with him for a dungeon run!"
Someone nearby clicked their tongue, "Him? He might just kill himself in the trial game!"
"Isn't there still one chance to be resurrected?"
"Even if you have three more chances to revive, you can't play like this! Every word you say is so offensive and pushes the boundaries. Who has that many lives?"
The girl with pigtails didn't care. She looked at the boy on the screen and said with a smile:
"That's why I said if he's alive, then forget about forming a team. I won't lose anything."
"..."
-
boom--
A deafening roar of thunder and lightning erupted outside the window. At the same time, the kitchen lights began to flicker violently, accompanied by the sounds of erratic electrical activity. The "mother" in front of her screamed loudly.
No! You bad child!
The mother's shrill scream: "You're using self-harm to scare your mother again, aren't you?! Why are you so disobedient?!"
"Why?!" Blood tears slowly streamed from the mother's bloodshot eyes.
"Why are you being so disobedient again?! Haven't I been good enough to you? I've already been so good to you, why do you still do things that make me angry?!"
"Mother!" Yu Shijiu screamed as she approached the door. As Yu Shijiu silently backed away, she reached out and pressed a light switch in the living room.
"Click."
The living room lights suddenly came on, probably because "Mother" hadn't come out of the kitchen yet; the lights in the living room were still in normal working order.
Yu Shijiu had deliberately provoked his "mother" to go berserk. He glanced back at the photo wall not far behind him and walked directly to it, stopping there.
Perhaps because she had just been transformed, "Mother's" movements were not very agile, but after leaving the kitchen, her mobility increased significantly.
Yu Shijiu seemed to be frightened, standing motionless as she watched her "mother" approach.
The path the "mother" walked left behind a pool of thick, scarlet blood, with many chunks of flesh that couldn't hold together falling into the blood with a "thud".
Seeing the boy frozen in fear, the "mother's" lips parted in a wider, tearing arc, her gums festering, her eyes bloodshot as she stared at him, her only thought to bite off his head and devour him.
The "mother" stood frozen in place.
The boy, who was about an arm's length away from the "mother," reached out and took a photo from the photo wall, pretending to tear it as the "mother's" neck twisted and stretched.
"do not want!"
Seeing Yu Shijiu's actions, "Mother" roared with fury:
"Put the photo down!"
“Mom,” Yu Shijiu sighed, “you’re making me very sad.”
The boy's eyelashes drooped, giving him a look that suggested he had no choice but to take action.
Am I really less valuable than a photograph?
"Mother":"……"
She stared menacingly at the boy before her, her fierce tone gradually softening:
"Baby, give the photo to Mommy, okay? Be good, and Mommy won't eat... no, I won't scold you, okay?"
Even at this point, "Mother" still didn't want to let go of the person who dared to offend her.
Yu Shijiu smiled, and his hand holding the photo seemed to tremble slightly. Then, a tiny crack appeared in the center corner of the photo.
"Mom," the boy smiled, his eyes crinkling like a crescent moon, his voice clear and bright.
Do I look like a fool?
