Infinite: Dawn Game

Chapter 5 Cooking

Strangely enough, the living room was still dark when Yu Shijiu walked out of the room, but as soon as she completely stepped out of the room, all the lights in the living room suddenly turned on.

Similar to the room's decor, the living room doesn't look very big. The walls are painted white, and the sofa and coffee table, which aren't particularly trendy, are all wiped clean and shiny. Opposite the sofa is a partitioned photo wall, covered with photos of a boy at every age. Warm, yellowish lights on the ceiling illuminate the entire house, making it exceptionally warm and comfortable.

Not far away, "Mother" was sitting at the dining table with her back to Yu Shijiu, serving soup. When she heard the noise behind her, she turned around slightly, smiled, and beckoned him to come over quickly.

“Come here, baby,” the mother said with a smile, “eat it while it’s hot.”

Yu Shijiu smiled silently, her eyes crinkling, and walked to the dining table, pulling out a chair and sitting down.

"It looks very tasty."

Yu Shijiu looked down at the exceptionally lavish meal on the table and said with a smile:

"Mom, you are so amazing!"

The "mother" clearly loved hearing these words; she smiled and placed the freshly served soup in front of Yu Shijiu.

“No, not at all,” the mother smiled gently, her eyes crinkling with affection. Her eyes, which were almost as big as the boy’s, were filled with tenderness.

"Drink more pork rib soup. Look how thin you've gotten lately, you're practically skin and bones..."

Her eyes reddened as she spoke, and she quickly added several more pieces of red meat to the soup bowl in front of Yu Shijiu, rambling on:

"This is braised pork that Mommy worked so hard to make, baby, you should eat more too. Mommy won't eat any. It's okay if Mommy is a little tired, as long as you study hard and do well, Mommy will be happy..."

The voice of "Mother" surrounded Yu Shijiu. He looked down at the rib soup in the bowl, which was gradually being stained red by the braised pork, and his gaze lingered on the pieces of meat that were gradually turning white from being soaked in the soup.

Would a mother who truly "loves" her child put two completely different meat dishes together?

Yu Shijiu smiled silently, his gaze sweeping over "Mother" as if sensing something.

Yu Guangzhong, the "mother" who was rambling on about how much she "loved" her child, had a slight frown on her face as she kept putting dishes from the table into Yu Shijiu's bowl with her chopsticks.

In just one minute, Yu Shijiu's bowl was full, with various meats and vegetables being added to the soup by his "mother," glistening with an eerie oily color under the warm light.

Yu Shijiu maintained her smile, but unconsciously tightened her grip on the chopsticks.

The "dishes" in front of me are less an act of a "mother" loving her child and more like feeding a "human-animal" devoid of any thought.

The "mother" is indeed feeding an obedient "human animal".

Why aren't you eating?

The mother's nagging abruptly stopped. She tilted her head and looked at the boy beside her who hadn't touched his chopsticks. Her usually gentle eyes instantly turned cold.

Are you a picky eater?

"Being a picky eater is not something a good child should do. Do you know how much effort Mom put into preparing this meal? How can you not eat?!"

As she spoke, "Mother's" fair and beautiful face suddenly turned pale and purple, and the corners of her mouth gradually tore open, revealing scarlet.

-

"My God, what is he doing standing there instead of eating?"

Inside the room, the fat man stared in shock at his "mother," whose head was beginning to sway precariously.

"I don't know," Sister An said, taking a sausage out of the drawer, tearing open the packaging, and taking a bite.

"I feel like he's stirring up trouble."

Anjie's evaluation.

Xu Han, standing to the side, said, "...Is it possible that he's just afraid to eat what's in his bowl?"

Fatty and Sister An: "..."

Seemingly recalling some unpleasant memories, both Fatty and Sister An showed expressions of wanting to vomit but having to swallow it back.

The fat man swallowed hard: "My memories have returned."

Sister An felt a little awkward with half a sausage in her mouth, but she swallowed it after a few seconds.

"It's alright," Sister An seemed to be comforting the fat man.

"It's not like we're the only two who've eaten it."

Xu Han glanced at the two of them, who both looked like they'd just eaten shit, and continued watching the screen, seemingly unconcerned that it was none of his business.

Oh, of the three, only his trial game wasn't in this instance.

-

Just a second before "Mother" was about to lose control, Yu Shijiu suddenly dropped the chopsticks in his hand.

"Ah," Yu Shijiu seemed startled, blinked, and a look of grievance appeared in her amber eyes:

“Mom,” Yu Shijiu’s hands, hanging on her knees, viciously pinched her own flesh:

"I dropped my chopsticks."

The "mother's" face, halfway through its transformation, suddenly stopped. She looked at the aggrieved-looking boy beside her and narrowed her eyes:

"what?"

Yu Shijiu pouted as if it were the most natural thing in the world: "I dropped my chopsticks, shouldn't Mom get me a new pair?"

The "mother" was stunned. Her half-torn lips slowly recovered, but she was interrupted by Yu Shijiu just as she was about to speak.

"Does my mother not love me anymore?"

Yu Shijiu's eyelids drooped, and because he was extremely thin, this action made him look like he was about to cry at any moment.

"I listen to you so much, Mom, and I study hard every day. Even when I'm tired, I wipe away my tears and continue to memorize the knowledge. Can't you even help me get chopsticks?"

As she spoke, Yu Shijiu extended her arm to her "mother," and said with a wronged expression:

"Mom, look how thin your baby has become!"

"Mother" indeed looked down.

Under the warm light, the boy's arms, so thin that they were just skin and bones, were clearly visible, giving the illusion that they could be broken with a single touch.

The "mother's" gaze changed instantly; she reverted to her gentle self, her eyes red and brimming with tears as she reached out to wipe them away, saying with heartache:

"Mommy will go get chopsticks for you, baby. Would you like something else to eat? Mommy will make you something nice to eat."

"May I?"

Yu Shijiu said happily, "Then I want to eat five fried eggs."

The mother nodded gently: "Of course."

After saying that, she bent down to pick up the chopsticks that had fallen on the ground and walked into the kitchen step by step.

-

I threw up.

Xu Han, expressionless, made a sarcastic comment about the live stream that was playing on the screen.

"What are you spitting out?"

The fat man asked curiously, "He acted quite well."

"It's because he acted so well that he felt like throwing up, huh? Look at how old he is and he's still like this," Xu Han pouted expressionlessly.

"This kind of action."

The fat man laughed so hard he almost fell over: "Why does this movement look so strange to you?"

It has a strange and funny feel to it.

“He did the right thing,” said Sister An, a lollipop in her mouth, her dark eyes fixed on the screen.

"Xu Han."

Xu Han subconsciously turned to look at her, somewhat puzzled.

"Your observation skills are too weak. Don't tell me you haven't seen the photos on the living room wall yet."

Sister An glanced at him and sighed helplessly.
