Infinite: Dawn Game
Chapter 23 Aid Sanatorium
The female nurse was stunned.
She turned her head in surprise to look at the thin boy, seemingly unable to understand why he would suddenly ask such an aggressive question.
In that brief moment of stunned silence, the boy broke free from her grasp, rubbing his wrist as he took a few steps back.
“I will file a complaint against you,” Yu Shijiu smiled and tilted her head, the curve of her lips remaining unchanged.
"If a nurse receives a serious complaint from a patient, shouldn't you be punished?"
No matter what kind of hospital it is, as long as it's not a mental hospital, a simple "complaint" is far more effective than many threats. Moreover, this sanatorium in front of us isn't the kind of place where the punishment is just a deduction of money.
...Is it possible, is it fate?
As expected, after Yu Shijiu finished speaking, the nurse's expression changed visibly, then gradually softened. The change was so rapid that her face looked somewhat distorted.
"how could be?"
The nurse gave a dry laugh. "You're the patient, so of course I'll listen to you, I'll listen to everything you say."
After saying that, the nurse didn't reach out again. Instead, she twisted a gentle mask and led Yu Shijiu forward.
Yu Shijiu didn't say anything more, but took the opportunity to look around.
This is clearly a courtyard built specifically for patients to rest and take walks within the sanatorium. It features various large, leafy trees and numerous public fitness equipment for exercise. Almost every tree has a dark gray stone bench under it, making it a perfect place for tired patients to rest.
Behind the large tree was a four-story building, painted white. The lettering on the exterior sign at the top of the building looked a bit worn, but Yu Shijiu could still make out the words—
[Aide Sanatorium]
Overall, it has some yellow marks from wind and rain, but not many; instead, it has a sense of lingering history.
This is also the place the female nurse is leading Yu Shijiu to.
Yu Shijiu glanced at it, then his gaze drifted to the patients in the courtyard.
The patients include both men and women, ranging in age from their teens to their forties. They all appear to be healthy, chatting and laughing with each other, taking walks and exercising... At least on the surface, they don't seem to have any diseases.
But this is a sanatorium.
Why would someone who isn't sick come to a nursing home?
Yu Shijiu followed the female nurse into the first floor of the sanatorium.
As soon as he stepped into the sanatorium, the temperature around him suddenly dropped several degrees. Yu Shijiu rubbed the goosebumps that had appeared on his arms and observed his surroundings with great interest.
The nurse seemed afraid he hadn't kept up, and looked back several times along the way. She only breathed a sigh of relief when they were near the front desk nurse station.
"The patient has arrived," the nurse said quickly, glancing down at the notebook tucked between her arms. The pages rustled as she spoke.
"The patient in room 119 on the fourth floor, named Yu Shijiu, is suspected of having pica and anorexia, which has led to poor physical development, short stature, and thin face. He is currently only recuperating in a sanatorium."
The female nurse reported Yu Shijiu's information to the nurses at the nurses' station.
Yu Shijiu appeared to be observing his surroundings, but in reality, he was listening to the conversation between the two nurses. When he heard the female nurse say that she had pica and anorexia, he subconsciously wanted to refute her.
And I'm not short either.
Just as Yu Shijiu was about to interrupt the conversation between the two nurses, the glass door at the entrance suddenly made a shattering sound.
"Oh dear," a familiar female voice rang out, "it wasn't me, head nurse, it's just that this glass door is of very poor quality!"
Yu Shijiu and the two female nurses all turned around to look.
The woman called the head nurse was overweight, with a face full of wrinkles, and looked to be around forty years old. She had a cold look in her eyes and wore a name tag on her chest.
"The cost of repairing the door will be deducted from your salary for the rest of this month," the head nurse scoffed, her tone harsh.
"Why would a sanatorium hire a stupid intern like you?"
"Seriously?" He Lingling pouted. "They're going to deduct 500 yuan from my monthly salary? How am I supposed to survive?"
These words made the faces of the players behind He Lingling change. They looked at He Lingling's arrogant figure in front of the head nurse and wished they could sew her mouth shut.
What makes you think you can mention death in front of the head nurse?
Sure enough, after He Lingling finished speaking, the head nurse's expression changed slightly. If she was just being sarcastic before, now a hint of greed and coldness seemed to appear in her eyes.
In the eyes of all the players, the skin on the head nurse's cheek suddenly cracked, and a slippery, scarlet tongue emerged, wriggled for a few seconds, and then quickly retracted.
Yu Shijiu was amazed by what he saw. He glanced at the two female nurses beside him and regretfully discovered that they had not been transformed into monsters.
“Work hard,” the head nurse, whose cheek was still cracked, stared at He Lingling. “Don’t even think about slacking off.”
The strange tongue that sprouted from the head nurse's cheek and the blood that splattered when she licked it made the surrounding players turn pale.
Are they going all out right from the start?! Aren't they prepared?!
He Lingling, however, seemed not to have seen the tongue that was almost touching her, and smiled as she made a "received" gesture.
"I promise I won't slack off, I'll work proactively, and I'll listen to every word you say, Head Nurse!"
Head Nurse: "..."
Other players: "..."
The head nurse was quite pleased with this sensible intern, seemingly having forgotten that the intern had just smashed the glass door.
"Good job."
"okay."
He Lingling also saw Yu Shijiu by the front desk, raised her eyebrows in surprise, and nodded with a smile.
Yu Shijiu glanced at her briefly before turning away, showing no excitement at the prospect of meeting an acquaintance.
He Lingling: "..."
The head nurse walked to the nurses' station front desk, glanced at the quiet Yu Shijiu to the side, and frowned as she looked at the female nurse:
"Why did you bring the patient from the fourth floor here?"
The female nurse didn't seem afraid of her: "The patient sneaked out; we just found him."
The head nurse scoffed, "Your job is to take care of the patients on the fourth floor. If this happens again, you'll be resigning—"
"Nurse Lin is meddling too much," the female nurse said sneer, showing no trace of her earlier fear of being complained about.
"Just like you said, I'm the dean's person, how can you control me?"
"Xue Yan!"
Nurse Lin was furious, and her newly healed cheeks seemed to be cracking open again.
Watching the two nurses arguing in front of him, Yu Shijiu suddenly understood why gossiping makes people so excited.
For example, right now, not to mention the players who look like interns not far away, there are also some strange nurses in the corner of the sanatorium who seem to be glancing this way.
It seems that whether it's a human or a monster, they all enjoy watching others argue while they watch the drama unfold.
Yu Shijiu, who was watching from a first-person perspective up close, sighed and even had the urge to take out some melon seeds to eat.
Yu Shijiu hesitated for a moment, his hand twitching at his side, but he held back. He decided to give the strange nurses some face on the first day.
