From cannon fodder villain to beloved heroine
Chapter 10 System Warning: New Danger Emerges
The system's piercing alarm still echoed in Yan Rugo's mind, and the red warning words flashed before her eyes, making her uneasy like a death knell.
Her brows were furrowed so tightly they seemed to trap a fly, and her cherry lips were pressed together as she nervously bit her lower lip.
The joy of being immersed in the sweetness of love was instantly swept away by this sudden sense of crisis.
She glanced around discreetly, trying to spot something unusual in the crowd.
The servants in the mansion were still immersed in the festive atmosphere, chatting and laughing, and congratulating each other.
Madam Li sat gracefully in the main seat, a faint smile on her face, seemingly quite satisfied with the marriage.
Xu Qingfeng stood beside her, his gentle gaze following her the whole time, a faint smile playing on his lips.
Everything seemed so normal, yet there was an eerie calm, like the calm before a storm, suffocating.
Alarm bells rang in Yan Rugo's mind: Could it be that danger was already lurking in the shadows, just waiting to deliver a fatal blow to her?
"Ruge, what's wrong? You don't look well." Xu Qingfeng's concerned voice rang in her ears, interrupting her thoughts.
Yan Rugo forced a smile. "It's nothing, I'm probably just a little tired." She subtly slipped her hand into her sleeve, her fingertips lightly touching the system interface, hoping to get more hints.
However, apart from the flashing red warning, the system provided no other information.
At this moment, a sudden change occurred.
The maid in charge of sweeping accidentally spilled tea on the carpet, staining Madam Li's elegant skirt.
Immediately afterwards, the servant responsible for arranging the flowers accidentally broke the precious porcelain vase, scattering shards all over the floor.
The servants responsible for preparing the banquet made a series of mistakes, serving the wrong dishes or knocking over bowls and plates, turning the entire banquet hall into chaos.
Yan Rugo keenly sensed that these unexpected events were not accidental.
She noticed that the servants who had made mistakes had shifty eyes and a barely perceptible smirk on their lips, as if they had all expected this.
They deliberately created chaos and disrupted order, seemingly trying to use this opportunity to give her a hard time.
Seeing the banquet hall growing increasingly chaotic and Madam Li's expression growing more and more grim, Yan Rugo knew she had to bring the situation under control as soon as possible.
She took a deep breath,
"Stop it, all of you!" she shouted, her voice silencing everyone present.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and turned their gazes to her.
Yan Rugo glanced around at everyone, a cold smile playing on her lips: "Trying to cause trouble? Don't you know who I am..."
Yan Rugo flicked her sleeve, revealing an exquisite bracelet on her wrist, which was the physical form of the system.
She lightly tapped the bracelet, and an invisible wave of light quickly spread out, covering the entire banquet hall.
"System, activate 'Order Restoration' mode!" Yan Rugo silently commanded.
The overturned bowls and plates seemed to be controlled by an invisible hand, automatically restoring themselves. The spilled tea and food scraps also disappeared without a trace. Even the stains on Madam Li's skirt miraculously disappeared.
The broken porcelain shards automatically pieced themselves back together and were placed back in their original, intact state.
The whole process was smooth and efficient; in the blink of an eye, the chaotic banquet hall was restored to its original cleanliness and order.
The servants were dumbfounded; their jaws nearly dropped to the floor.
They originally thought they could give Yan Rugo a hard time and embarrass her in front of Madam Li, but they didn't expect her to resolve the crisis so easily.
"This...how is this possible?" a maid stammered, her face full of disbelief.
"Could she be a goddess descended to earth?" another servant muttered under his breath.
Yan Rugo's lips curled up slightly, revealing a smug smile.
She knew that she would have to rely on the system when it mattered most!
"It's just a trivial skill, not worth mentioning," she said, feigning modesty, but inwardly she was overjoyed.
At this moment, Xu Qingfeng walked over and saw that Yan Rugo looked somewhat tired.
"Ruge, are you alright?" he asked gently, his voice full of concern.
"It's nothing, just a small matter." Yan Rugo shook her head, and seeing Xu Qingfeng's concerned eyes, a warm feeling welled up in her heart.
He gently pulled her into his arms and whispered, "If anything happens in the future, don't bear it alone. Tell me, and I will always be by your side."
Yan Rugo leaned against him, feeling his warm embrace, and felt incredibly at ease.
"Hmm..." she responded softly, but a sudden unease flashed through her heart.
Just then, Madam Li's authoritative voice broke the momentary silence: "Ruge, come here for a moment, I have something to discuss with you."
Madam Li's dignified face was covered with a thin layer of frost, her eyes sharp as knives, sweeping over everyone present before finally settling on Yan Rugo.
That look seemed to say: Little girl, let's see how you handle this today!
"Ruge, there's been a problem with the silk we recently purchased. The warehouse is in complete chaos. Go and help me sort it out."
Yan Rugo's heart sank. This wasn't solving a problem; it was clearly setting a trap for her!
Those old hands in the warehouse are all shrewd and cunning; trying to get something out of them is harder than climbing to heaven.
Moreover, the system alarm was still beeping, like a time bomb that could explode at any moment.
She remained outwardly calm, but inwardly she was racing, calculating how to respond.
She smiled slightly, a hint of cunning in her confident eyes. "Rest assured, Madam, Ruge will do her utmost." With that, she gracefully walked up to the servants in charge of the storeroom.
Those men, each with their noses in the air and eyes full of disdain.
"Esteemed seniors, Madam has instructed me to assist you in inventorying the silks. I would greatly appreciate your guidance," Yan Rugo said, her tone respectful yet subtly authoritative.
The servants exchanged bewildered glances, clearly not expecting Yan Rugo to be so polite.
Yan Rugo then changed the subject, a bright smile on her face, "Of course, if any senior feels I'm in the way, they can just say so, and I definitely won't force them. However, if this delays Madam's affairs, then it won't be easy to explain." Her words were both soft and firm, instantly making those seasoned veterans understand her meaning.
What followed went surprisingly smoothly.
With her intelligence and skill, Yan Rugo quickly figured out the condition of the warehouse and efficiently completed the inventory task.
Even the servants who were originally unruly were won over by her and expressed their willingness to cooperate.
When Yan Rugo handed the completed list to Madam Li, Madam Li smiled, a rare sight. "Rugo, you did a great job. I'm very satisfied."
However, Yan Rugo felt no relief whatsoever.
The system alarms were becoming more and more frequent, and the red warning text was becoming increasingly glaring, as if foreshadowing a huge crisis that was about to unfold.
She walked out of Madam Li's room, looked up at the sky, and saw the setting sun painting the horizon with a blood-red hue, so oppressive that it was hard to breathe.
She looked down at the bracelet on her wrist; its red light, like the eyes of a venomous snake, made her uneasy.
"It seems things aren't so simple..." she muttered to herself.
