The Rebirth of a Top Star

Chapter 87 "Brother-in-Law"

Gu Leyi drove when they arrived, and naturally her younger brother drove when they left.

"What have you been doing at home lately instead of going out to study?" Gu Leyi sat in the passenger seat, looking out at the freedom.

Actually, she had her ID card in her bag. She came to the airport, and if she wanted to leave, she had all her documents in her hands. She also had her credit card at home, which was still usable.

For Gu Leyi, once she steps outside, she feels completely free.

Gu Leyi had no intention of leaving.

She wasn't so ungrateful as to leave directly; Gu Leyi knew whether someone was good to her or not.

Gu Leyi finally answered her brother's question, "I'm trapped at home and can't get out."

Gu Leyi spoke listlessly, unable to muster any emotion.

Gu Leqi was overjoyed to be back. He hadn't been back for several years. When he found out he was back, all his friends who had stayed home and lived the life of rich kids made plans to have dinner, drinks, and barbecue with him.

He couldn't wait any longer.

Although her mother told her when she came back that the main thing was to comfort her older sister and give her some psychological counseling.

Gu Leqi was now preoccupied with getting out of the house quickly, dropping his sister off at home, so he could go out and have some fun.

He's here for a wonderful nightlife.

He was incredibly excited, but his sister remained silent throughout. After a while, even as the car stereo played Gu Leyi's favorite songs, she still didn't react.

Gu Leqi then began to frequently check on his sister's condition.

"Sis, do you want to go out with me tonight?" Gu Leqi asked, trying to come up with another idea.

Gu Leyi shook her head, showing no interest whatsoever.

Gu Leqi was a little dumbfounded. This wouldn't work either. Just then, the traffic light in front of them turned to look at her. "Won't your brother-in-law care about you like this?"

Gu Leqi didn't know much about his family's affairs, and there were some things he hadn't been informed of, so he didn't know what had happened before. Now that he was asking, Gu Leyi would know the answer.

She has made it clear that she doesn't want to talk, and she hasn't explained much. Gu Leqi has a premonition that if he dares to continue talking, his older sister Gu Leyi might start to go crazy and beat him.

Gu Leqi wisely chose to keep quiet.

When the car arrived at her doorstep, Gu Leyi opened the door and got out, but Gu Leqi remained motionless. Five seconds later, Gu Leyi turned around and looked through the open passenger window.

"Sis, please take my bag back with you."

A black backpack was handed out of the car window. It was the backpack that my younger brother took with him when he went abroad to study. It was already old and hadn't been replaced yet.

"Where are you going?" Gu Leyi stood at the door, looking at her younger brother who was unwilling to come down.

"I'm going out to play. Tell Dad I won't be back tonight."

Gu Leyi was speechless.

I've never seen anyone like this before. He hasn't been home for so long, and the first thing he does when he gets home is to see those "godfathers." That's enough.

When my father finds out, he'll be angry for a long time.

Gu Leyi couldn't do anything about him sitting in the car.

Seeing that he really didn't want to come down, Gu Leyi simply gave up and went home by herself.

The door opened, and the usually tough-talking but soft-hearted Mr. Gu turned around instantly. Seeing only his daughter at the gate and not the brat he wanted to see, his face immediately fell.

"Why did you come back by yourself?" The tone was very firm, as if expressing dissatisfaction.

Gu Leyi glanced at her father and said casually to her mother, "Your son went out to play and isn't planning to come back tonight. If you miss him, contact him yourself. I'm going upstairs."

Gu Leyi originally intended to cover up part of the truth for her younger brother, so that her father, mother, and this brat wouldn't get angry or get beaten.

Gu Leyi was still angry that her father was doing this on purpose. Since things had come to this, then neither of them should have an easy time.

After speaking, Gu Leyi turned around and went back to her bedroom. The resentment behind her was almost tangible, leaving Gu's mother at a loss for words.

When Gu Leqi arrived, almost everyone was already there. Back then, Gu Leqi was just a young boy who had been sent away by his father. He was still a high school student and hadn't even finished his first year of high school. Because he was playful, he applied to both high school and university outside of school.

Although he was given enough money and a place to live, Gu Leqi was still not happy.

During his first year abroad, he always argued with his elders about going back home. Later, after realizing he couldn't come back, he found a new kind of fun abroad: pretending to be poor in front of international students or foreign friends, and then looking for part-time jobs with them.

Gu Leqi wasn't just joking around; he genuinely wanted to support himself abroad. As a result, he hadn't touched a single penny of the money his family sent him in the years since he entered university.

Of course, his father wouldn't check his account balance; he would just transfer tens or hundreds of thousands of yuan to him periodically.

Gu Leqi has saved them all. He's still angry because she left him without a word, which led to the girl he liked back then now having someone she likes and they're even talking about marriage.

To prevent me from contacting these playmates, my family changed my phone number directly, but I had to find it back little by little over the next few years.

Although my sister's help was indispensable in the process.

When Gu Leqi arrived at the address, he found it was an upscale restaurant, not the barbecue stall mentioned on their phone. He looked rather unhappy.

How can the food here compare to that at a barbecue stall?

Entering with this mindset, Gu Leyi didn't expect that the first friends she would see upon returning to China wouldn't be those people, but instead, she would immediately spot a familiar figure—Song Shiyuan.

Shi Yuan has become so mature. Gu Leqi actually stood there watching for a long time without going up to disturb him.

He looked exactly the same as I remembered, so reliable.

It wasn't until Song Shiyuan noticed Gu Leqi that he walked over and said, "Brother Shiyuan, it's been a long time."

When Song Shiyuan saw the familiar face just now, he wasn't sure yet. But now that he heard the familiar voice, he suddenly smiled and greeted Gu Leqi, "Leqi, when did you come back?" He hadn't seen Gu Leqi when he last visited the Gu family, so she must have come back recently.

"Brother-in-law, I just got back to China today." Gu Leqi looked up at Song Shiyuan. Shiyuan used to be a head taller than him, and he was still that much taller now. It felt so familiar.

Upon hearing him call him brother-in-law, Song Shiyuan was momentarily dazed, but then he understood. Gu Leqi had just returned today and probably didn't know about those things yet, so there must be a reason for calling him that. Song Shiyuan didn't take it seriously.

He smiled and said to Gu Leqi, "I still have people upstairs discussing work, so I'll go up first and then come to your house to find you."

After exchanging pleasantries, Song Shiyuan turned and left, leaving Gu Leqi standing at the bottom of the stairs, looking up at Song Shiyuan, his mind racing with endless speculations about their pairings.

Shi Yuan and my sister are a perfect match.

Gu Leqi was overjoyed. Who wouldn't like a rich and handsome brother-in-law?
