Ling Yu was also taken aback by Lin Xuqiu's words. He remained silent for a few seconds before smiling enigmatically, "Really? Senior brother wasn't forced by you?"

Pei Du: "..."

“Of course,” Lin Xuqiu said. “We’re the military, why would we do something so forceful? Junior Brother Ling, do you have a problem with us by saying that?”

The lab technicians around them subtly turned their gazes upon hearing the commotion. Lu Xun, who was standing to the side, had just lit a cigarette and, upon seeing this, twirled the lighter in his hand.

"Why waste words with him? It's almost time for me to get off work. Let's get going."

Lin Xuqiu suppressed his smile and bowed to Lu Xun, saying, "Yes, Commander."

After he finished speaking, he led Pei Du out the door, closing the laboratory door behind them as they left.

Ling Yu stood there, watching the laboratory door open and close again, and finally a crack appeared on his face.

[Don't worry about Pei Du, he's unimportant. If the military wants to cause trouble for him, it saves us the trouble of lifting a finger.]

[Your focus is on Anjia...]

The PUA sphere shimmered in the laboratory, its size expanding, and its white light soon enveloped most of the experimental area.

Ling Yu nodded. He packed his things and left, dialing An Jia's number directly on the way.

The phone rang for over ten seconds before being answered. An Jia's voice was hoarse, carrying an unspeakable weariness.

"……Owner?"

A smile slowly crept onto Ling Yu's lips.

Pei Du was taken to a black car.

Lu Xun and his group were prepared, having parked their car in advance on a street not far from the laboratory. This street was frequented by thugs and gangsters, and although chaotic, it was rarely patrolled by the military.

Lu Xun put Pei Du in the back seat, then opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat.

"This is the location I gave you before we went," Lu Xun said simply to the soldier in the driver's seat as he fastened his seatbelt.

The soldier nodded, and the car's navigation system immediately located Pei Du's villa. A few seconds later, the engine started, and the black car quickly disappeared around the street corner.

"Lin Xuqiu, can't you smell anything on them? This Pei Du smells like me. I didn't even use any shower gel. What nonsense is he spouting?" Lu Xun spread his legs and looked at Pei Du through the rearview mirror, his annoyance rising again.

Lin Xuqiu was also sitting in the back seat. He seemed puzzled and asked, "Commander, so what's that smell on you?"

“Manly scent, huh? I’m all manly scent.” Lu Xun continued, frowning. “Pei Du smells like me too, but you don’t.”

Lin Xuqiu: "..."

Pei Du: "..."

How exactly did Lu Xun become a commander? He seems mentally unstable and not quite right in the head; it's a miracle he even got into the military.

Lu Xun continued to lean against the car seat in thought. It was almost midnight, and it was pitch black outside.

There were no streetlights on this remote path. The car headlights illuminated the rugged road ahead, and every now and then, protruding branches would scrape against the car window and bump against the roof, making scraping sounds.

“That mutant won’t leave easily; he’s definitely still in the villa. At the very least, he’s in that area, and I’ve already had the area cordoned off.”

Lu Xun's voice rang out from inside the car.

"Don't let me catch him, or I'll cut off his tail."

"Commander, if you had taken me with you that day, we wouldn't have ended up with a hole punched in our chest."

"Mind your own business? Let me tell you..."

Pei Du opened his eyes slightly and shifted his gaze. Lin Xuqiu rested his chin on his hand and looked out the car window, not staring at Pei Du.

Using the dim light of his lamp, Pei Du looked around and estimated their current location. He planned to wait until they reached another spot near the woods before breaking out of the window.

"...Pei Du shouldn't even think about staying out of this. I've never seen anyone like him. I'm speechless... Which way are you driving? Is this the road?" Lu Xun paused in his speech.

As soon as he finished speaking, the car screeched to a halt beside a mountain road. The surroundings were gloomy, with the occasional chirping of birds. The streetlights illuminated the area ahead, and Lu Xun could finally see that there was a precipice in front of him.

Lu Xun turned to look at the soldier in the driver's seat. The brim of the soldier's cap was pulled low, and he could vaguely see the soldier's facial features.

"Commander, long time no see." The soldier in the driver's seat turned off the engine, removed his white military gloves, and turned his amber eyes to the side. "Whose tail are you going to cut off?"

Pei Du's expression changed slightly upon hearing the voice.

The person who said they would leave at midnight still came here. They didn't bring any weapons, and didn't even know to wear a mask to cover their face.

Pei Du's fingers stiffened for a few seconds before gripping the edge of the seat, and he shifted his gaze forward.

"Ha, I was wondering why you looked so familiar. It's you, Sheng Shixian." Lu Xun pulled out his pistol. "I even saw your news before. President Sheng, you really need to change your habit of poking people with your tail."

“If the commander hadn’t pointed a gun at me, I wouldn’t have attacked you.” Sheng Shixian remained seated, his voice low and deep. “Don’t drag others into our feud.”

"I'm going to argue with you anyway!" Lu Xun sneered. "Did I point a gun at you? Huh? Say that again? You little brat, you were sleeping on the first floor while I was on the second, and you suddenly poked me in the back and you still think you're right?"

Pei Du blinked upon hearing this.

“You were clearly going to hit me later.” Sheng Shixian clenched his wrist, his tone devoid of any remorse. “Don’t pretend in front of me.”

"You've got guts." Lu Xun chuckled twice, then suppressed his anger and spoke again, "Lin Xuqiu, cut off his tail."

The car windows shattered instantly. Pei Du was covered by most of his body by shards of glass falling from above, and after two thunderous crashes, the car doors behind him were violently torn off.

"They're fighting! They're fighting!" the crocodile screamed incessantly.

Pei Du looked up; he was the only one left in the paralyzed and deformed car.

Ignoring the shards of glass on his body, Pei Du quickly climbed out of the car under the cover of darkness.

The fight between the two different species resembled wild beasts tearing each other apart, yet it was more than that. Pei Du couldn't see their figures clearly; Sheng Shixian and Lin Xuqiu darted erratically along the mountain path, disappearing one after the other into the nearby jungle.

“Sheng Shixian, I heard you have more than one tail. How many do you have?” Lin Xuqiu’s eyes narrowed. He grabbed Sheng Shixian’s clothes and tore into his flesh, then slowly laughed. “If you have a lot, it won’t hurt much if I cut off one.”

Before Sheng Shixian could even show his long tail, he grabbed Lin Xuqiu by the neck and threw them both to the ground, his pupils bulging upwards. "Don't be too confident."
