Chapter 44 Discussing Chapter Entanglement

[Sheng Shixian is no longer reliable. You must keep an eye on An Jia! An Jia is your last chance. You still need Pei Du to pay off the Sheng family's embezzled assets!]

Pei Du: "?"

The PUA ball was babbling in the air, and its general meaning was quite clear.

Pei Du is An Jia's ATM, and An Jia is now being manipulated into being Ling Yu's dog. Therefore, Ling Yu's debts are An Jia's debts, and Pei Du repaying Ling Yu's debts is essentially repaying An Jia's debts.

The white ball's brainwashing rhetoric was top-notch; after hearing this set of equations, even Pei Du admired its shamelessness.

[Don't worry, after Pei Du dies, all his assets will belong to An Jia. What's wrong with you bearing it for now? An Jia is sacrificing her virtue for your future...]

Pei Du slowed his pace.

After entering the laboratory, he and Ling Yu went down different paths. The white ball was still chattering on Ling Yu's shoulder, its voice penetrating the air and reaching Pei Du's ears.

Once Ling Yu had walked around the corner and disappeared, the sound of the white ball also ceased.

Pei Du paused for a moment before speaking, "Those three who are merely trying to survive, one of them is Ling Yu."

He didn't even use a question.

The blue card on the survivor's body lit up: "Bingo! You got one right!"

Pei Du frowned. He was just a cash cow, but these people were murdering him because he was also a cash cow.

They want Pei Du's property.

Pei Du recalled something from a very long time ago. He had seen An Jia the afternoon before he fell into a coma. An Jia had stammered that she wanted to borrow money from him, and Pei Du had drunk a beverage from the table while talking to her in the store.

That evening, Pei Du was working overtime in the lab when he met some of his colleagues. They discussed experimental projects together, and he didn't get home until 11 or 12 o'clock.

Not long after, Pei Du fell into a coma.

Since several hours had passed since he met An Jia and he had been in contact with several other people in between, Pei Du had not yet suspected her.

but now……

“There’s also An Jia,” Pei Du said, “but she shouldn’t be the mastermind; she just drugged me.”

It was put in that drink. Perhaps the dose wasn't high, but after it was mixed with rose toxin, it caused Pei Du to fall into a deep coma.

The creature, barely clinging to life, flicked the light on twice more, then exclaimed in surprise, "That's really something! How did you suddenly become so clever?! Where's the last person?"

“The last one is still unclear,” Pei Du pondered.

But the last person must be related to the production of rose fragrance. Ling Yu was a novice in the lab and didn't know anything about fragrances, so she couldn't make those poisonous rose juices, and An Jia was even less capable.

“But we’ll find out who the last person is tonight.” Pei Du regained his composure, pushed open the laboratory door, and looked at the several military officials standing in front of it.

The rose juice spilled on his wall was inscribed with the words "cause and effect, retribution".

The last person... was connected to his parents' case.

Of course, it is also related to the military.

"Hello, are you Pedu, the experimenter? Our commander has been waiting for you for a long time. Please come this way."

The police officers waiting at the door were dressed casually, while the officers guarding outside were all in neat and standard police uniforms. This man wore frameless glasses and a simple white lab coat, with a peaceful smile on his face.

“Okay.” Pei Du glanced at his name tag, which read Lin Xuqiu.

The military had set up a small room specifically for their meeting. There was a soldier guarding the room every ten meters or so in the corridor outside. Pei Du followed Lin Xuqiu for nearly twenty minutes before arriving at the room.

"Please come in." Lin Xuqiu opened the door.

Pei Du released his right hand from his phone and walked straight inside. Lin Xuqiu closed the door behind him, blocking the view from outside.

Pei Du paused as he walked inside.

Inside the room was a man wearing a military cap. He had dark skin, and his lips, visible beneath the cap, were taut, revealing obvious impatience.

There was another person sitting opposite him, who looked like a lab technician. He was wearing a lab coat just like Pei Du, and his back view looked somewhat familiar.

Pei Du took a few steps forward, and the lab technician turned around to see that it was Ling Yu.

"Alright, Ling Yu, I understand the situation you've described. But I remember this project was previously handled by Pei Du, so bringing someone in halfway through isn't easy. I'll discuss it with him in a bit and ask for his opinion." The commander put down the documents in his hand, said a few words, and then turned his gaze to Pei Du.

The sharpness in his eyes was neither concealed nor hidden, and when he looked at Pei Du, it was mostly coldness.

Pei Du's expression remained unchanged. Only after Ling Yu and the commander finished speaking and left did he sit down in the chair in front.

Ling Yu paused as he passed Pei Du, seemingly wanting to say something. Pei Du didn't look at him and walked past him directly.

The door opened and closed. After Ling Yu left, only the three of them remained inside.

As if sensing the tense atmosphere, Lin Xuqiu poured two cups of tea and placed them in front of the two of them.

"Pei Du, is that right? I've heard so much about you. I heard people mention you when I was in the military. They said you were a rare genius in the laboratory, just like your father." The commander in front took off his military cap, revealing his facial features.

He had a long, grotesque scar on his cheek, which stretched from the corner of his eye to the corner of his mouth.

Pei Du looked at him and said, "I'm just a junior lab technician and haven't made any special contributions. You flatter me."

"How could you not have made any contribution? You're quite impressive to have tamed a high-level alien species that's out of its mind and made it work for you." The commander said, taking off his police uniform.

His right chest was wrapped in layers of white bandages, with faint traces of blood visible on them. The wound Sheng Shixian had inflicted on him with his tail had not yet healed.

Pei Du glanced at them and said, "Commander, possessing alien species is a serious crime. You need to provide evidence before you speak."

"Evidence?" The commander's tone was mocking. He spread his hands and said, "Sorry, I have no evidence. But you should know best whether you did such a thing or not."

“I’ve investigated you.” The commander opened the file folder next to him, the yellowed papers inside rustling as he turned them over.

"Your father did the same stupid thing as you. Do you know what happened to him? For a mutant, he ruined his career and future, and of course, he lost his life. You'll probably end up like that too."

Pei Du laughed: "Commander, what happens to me in the future is none of your concern. As for the things you're talking about, I don't know anything about them, and you don't need to ask me anymore."

"Ha." The commander leaned back in his chair. "You're so stubborn, aren't you? You think I won't dare lay a hand on you just because Gong Yuanshen is protecting you?"

Pei Du remained silent.

"Lin Xuqiu, Pei Du's tea has gone cold. Aren't you going to get him a new cup?"
