Chapter 38 The Book I Sneak Peeked At

Pei Du lowered his eyes. The rose petals looked fresh, and the fragrance was the same intoxicating blend of scents as before. The dense petals were spread out at his doorway, as if laying out a red carpet for him.

That person probably knew that Pei Du had noticed the unusual scent in the roses, so he deliberately laid another layer of rose petals on top of the flowers at night to warn Pei Du.

Pei Du's expression remained unchanged. He covered his mouth and nose with one hand, thinking that this person was truly despicable.

He swept away the rose petals by the door with a broom, piling up all the fragrance and color before throwing them into the trash can.

The lab test results will be available soon; this person seems impatient.

Pei Du finished taking out the trash and walked back. When he returned, he saw Sheng Shixian standing at the door with a gloomy expression. His expression was now completely undisguised in front of Pei Du, and all his emotions were directly exposed.

Pei Du, still holding a broom, walked over to Sheng Shixian and asked, "What's wrong? I threw away all those flower petals, can you still smell the stench?"

Upon hearing Pei Du's voice, Sheng Shixian paused slightly, turned to look at Pei Du, and said, "No."

“Your face doesn’t look so bad without me,” Pei Du chuckled. He noticed Sheng Shixian blocking his way and tried a few times before realizing what was happening.

His voice trailed off: "What's on the wall?"

Sheng Shixian hesitated for a few seconds, then turned to the side.

There was a row of red characters written on the wall by the entrance. I don't know what kind of paint was used. It wasn't oil paint and didn't smell like paint, but the color was pure. It had just been written on, and the red paint was still running down the wall.

"You beast pretending to be human, you will get your just deserts."

Pei Du stood there, staring at the words on the wall for a while without saying a word.

A faint rose fragrance lingered in the air. In that very short time, Pei Du learned the source of the paint on the wall. Whatever its recipe, it must have contained rose juice.

A beast disguised as a human.

karma.

The cold wind that swept from late night to early morning chilled Pei Du's skin. He clenched his fist and turned to see Sheng Shixian holding his hand.

Sheng Shixian's palms were never as cold as Pei Du's; they were always warm, and his body was brimming with vitality. Of course, there was also an abundance of yang energy that seemed about to burst.

“He’s insulting me,” Sheng Shixian said, frowning. “Wipe it off.”

"..." Pei Du's fingers stiffened for a few seconds before he grasped Sheng Shixian's right hand back. He laughed and said, "I'm not scolding you, I'm scolding myself."

Sheng Shi looked at him with envy, "You're not an animal."

A faint smile lingered at the corners of Pei Du's mouth, but the long, red veins hidden beneath his skin reminded him of the fact that he was not a normal person.

"Oh... then what am I?" Pei Du asked casually.

Sheng Shixian pursed his lips, his eyes flickered for a few seconds in the darkness, and he said in a low voice, "You are my master."

Upon hearing this, Pei Du nearly fell down the steps by the door. He turned to look at Sheng Shixian, his surprise barely concealed. "What am I?"

Sheng Shixian's expression was calm, not feigned. He tightened his grip on Pei Du's hand, saying, "Master, Master."

He repeated it twice, his voice becoming richer and more resonant each time.

Pei Du paused for a few seconds before speaking, "You were peeking at my book?"

Sheng Shixian frowned slightly. He didn't meet Pei Du's gaze and instead looked away, saying, "No."

Actually, he only flipped through one or two pages. Pei Du often stayed up late reading that book, and Sheng Shixian couldn't help but be curious.

But Pei Du kept a close eye on him, and after reading the book, he liked to lock it in the cabinet, so Sheng Shixian couldn't find a chance to look at the contents of that black book.

He slept on a makeshift bed on the floor, and could only use his tail to drag the book over and quickly flip through a page or two when Pei Du went out to use the toilet in the middle of the night. When Pei Du returned, he would put the book back in its original place.

In just a few minutes, Sheng Shixian didn't see anything of any particular use.

When he later recalled the few pages he had glanced at in the black book, all he could remember was, "He is the master and I am the dog."

How could Pei Du look at such things?

Sheng Shixian felt a lump in his throat. He secretly observed Pei Du's state when reading and found that Pei Du was extremely engrossed every time he read this book. Later, he even used a notebook to record the contents.

Sheng Shixian's eyes ached from watching. Pei Du... did he want to be someone else's dog?

“You are my master, and you cannot have any other masters outside.” Sheng Shixian intended to correct Pei Du’s abnormal thinking, and he emphasized, “And don’t look for dogs either.”

Pei Du: "..."

He looked at the floating figure, Gouqietousheng, who had almost exploded the moment Sheng Shixian called out "Master".

"What the hell? He's not a dog! Pei Du, you need to quickly change his wicked mindset! Help him build confidence; he's the male lead, he absolutely can't be Photoshopped!"

Pei Du remained silent, Sheng Shixian holding his hand tightly. In those repeated calls of "Master," he suddenly sensed a strange emotion.

It came from below, where he never responded.

Pei Du licked his back teeth and explained, "Sheng Shixian, I don't have a dog or an owner. I was just reading that book for fun."

Sheng Shixian's eyes were deep, and Pei Du's face was imprinted in his eyes. That usually calm face actually showed some restraint and embarrassment.

...Is he shy?

A surge of fervor welled up in Sheng Shixian's heart. The emotion came suddenly, burning his entire being with intense heat.

"Okay, Master." Sheng Shixian pressed his fingers between Pei Du's fingers. Their palms were sweaty and sticky when they were mixed together.

Sheng Shixian smiled slightly: "I'll do whatever you say."

Pei Du turned his head away, burying most of his face in the night, but his voice remained steady.

"Those words don't need to be erased now, just leave them here. I'll have the military handle them tomorrow."

Sheng Shixian understood Pei Du's scheme. He smiled and said, "Alright."

Pei Du closed the door. The night hadn't been peaceful, so he found a new set of clothes for Sheng Shixian and told him to change into them.

On his way upstairs, Pei Du passed by the old room that was locked again. He had moved in there once before, but after the new room was tidied up, Pei Du left the old room.

The old room was filled with things left by his parents: iron locks, long ropes, all sorts of gags... Although Pei Du didn't care about these things, he wasn't used to living there long-term.

He locked the old room again before leaving. Now, when Pei Du passes by here again, he only stops for a few seconds before preparing to leave once more.

"Cause and effect, retribution."

His mother was a different species but never bit anyone.

She was just an infected person; she didn't harm or kill anyone.

Pei Du still believes she is innocent.

The father was the same. He did not let his mother go insane, and he built the underground laboratory so that his mother could recover. He never stole or leaked anything from the laboratory.

Pei Du walked through the old door, his eyes filled with coldness, revealing a chilling glint.

The mother is innocent; the guilty party is the one who killed her.
