Chapter 28 The Beast's Ears

Pei Du sat opposite Sheng Shixian, tapping the table with his fingertips as he pondered what to do next.

Sheng Shixian's previous activities were relatively normal. Although he would outwardly comply with Pei Du's words, he was mentally sound and would not risk attacking Pei Du.

Furthermore, previous blood tests showed no signs of further mutation in Sheng Shixian, so how did he suddenly grow ears in just three hours?

Pei Du couldn't figure out the reason. He glanced at Yi Tong, who was unconscious on the sofa, and then went into the bathroom to change into a new set of clothes.

When Sheng Shixian woke up again, it was already five or six o'clock at night.

Several hours had passed, but a dull ache still lingered in his head. His facial muscles were tense, and his vision was blurry for the first few seconds when he opened his eyes.

"Hmm." Sheng Shixian tugged at the handcuffs on his hands. The gag in his mouth was fastened tightly to the back of his head, so tight that he couldn't even close his teeth.

Sheng Shixian was in a daze. He sat on the sofa for a while before he remembered what had happened.

Damn it... I failed again.

"Awake?" Pei Du's voice came from the side. Sheng Shixian's eyelashes trembled slightly. He lifted his eyelids and saw Pei Du coming downstairs in a clean short-sleeved white T-shirt.

Pei Du had a medical patch on the side of his ear, and a faint red mark could be seen on it.

Sheng Shixian stared at him for a few seconds, then glanced at Pei Du's arm. The veins on Pei Du's arm remained unchanged, and he still looked like a normal person.

Sheng Shixian bit down hard on the gag in his mouth. His beast ears twitched twice, and a sense of resentment welled up in his heart.

Pei Du stopped in front of Sheng Shixian, and as he expected, Sheng Shixian's face was as black as the bottom of a pot.

"Why are you looking at me like that? I'm not abusing you." Pei Du met Sheng Shixian's gaze, and as he spoke, he casually pinched the beast ears that had just grown on Sheng Shixian's head.

"I told you before not to bite me, but you completely ignored me." Pei Du rubbed the soft flesh between his fingers. "Do you know how much it hurts?"

Sheng Shixian froze on the spot. His beast ears were fragile and sensitive, and Pei Du was holding and manipulating them in his hands without any clear meaning, as if he were being roasted over a fire.

A shiver ran through Sheng Shixian's heart. He stared at Pei Du with his dark eyes, but did not react.

Pei Du didn't say anything more. He felt around behind Sheng Shixian's head to make sure the gag wasn't loose, then turned and left.

Sheng Shixian watched him walk away, and only after a long while did she stiffly lower her head.

The wound on his right knee was bandaged with a new medical bandage, but it was clearly done carelessly and without any skill; the dressing was simply changed and the wound was re-bandaged.

Sheng Shixian stared at it for a while, then slowly covered the bandage on his knee with his palm.

It barely survived and would wake up some time later than Sheng Shixian. As soon as it woke up, it kept howling until it realized that it had not been injured, which barely calmed its anger.

"He hit me so hard I got an electric shock! Can you believe it? I got an electric shock!"

Pei Du nodded: "I know, I put you next to the charger."

"What are you talking about! What use is a charger if it's useful?! You have to compensate me, you have to compensate me!"

Pei Du's head was buzzing from the noise. He said, "I only have 10 Yang Qi points. I can't give you much."

"Just because you don't have it now doesn't mean you won't have it in the future! When you do have it in the future, you have to give me at least half as compensation!" Gouqie Tousi Sheng said irritably in the air.

“Okay.” Pei Du didn’t believe he would have any more in the future; he would give Gouqie five Yang Qi points at most. That way, Pei Du himself would still have five left, enough to live without.

"Hmph." Only by living a life of ignominy did I feel a little better.

It circled back to Sheng Shixian's side and settled down in a comfortable position. Only in places with high yang energy can one find comfort in merely surviving.

Following Pei Du, who has no future, will only lead to a life of ignominy, without any benefits, and one will have to crawl in the shadows.

Pei Du looked to the side. Sheng Shixian was still sitting on the sofa. His black hair had grown much longer, reaching his neck, and his dark eyes were staring straight at Pei Du, though they were not fully visible.

Pei Du was almost immune to Sheng Shixian's gaze. Ever since Sheng Shixian arrived, he had been staring at Pei Du as if trying to bore a hole through him.

Pei Du ignored them and ate a casual dinner before packing up his things to continue reading.

Sheng Shixian arrived at the dining table at some point. He had no crutches and slowly dragged his broken leg to the chair.

Pei Du had finished washing up. He was drying his hair as he walked out of the bathroom when he saw Sheng Shixian sitting upright in a chair at the dining table.

Sheng Shixian's face was expressionless, his complexion was pale, and the dark circles under his eyes were more pronounced. He was sitting in a chair facing Pei Du, and even had the ceramic bowl for his meal laid out in front of him.

Pei Du: "..."

Sheng Shixian looked at Pei Du, whose body was still enveloped in a layer of heat after his shower. A faint scent of shower gel wafted from the bathroom, mingling with the air and entering Sheng Shixian's nostrils.

Sheng Shixian's eyes flickered slightly, and he also turned his head to smell his own scent, and immediately couldn't help but frown.

It has no fragrance at all, and even has a strange, sour smell.

Pei Du walked over to Sheng Shixian, picked up a glass and poured himself a glass of water: "Hungry?"

Since Pei Du left, Sheng Shixian hadn't tasted a single grain of rice. Considering the muscle activity that followed, Sheng Shixian should indeed be feeling hungry.

Sheng Shixian nodded.

At this point, he realized he needed to be honest.

Pei Du placed the freshly filled glass of water in front of Sheng Shixian and said, "If you're hungry, drink more water. Water can keep you full."

Sheng Shixian, still gag in his mouth, gripped the edge of the ceramic bowl tightly upon hearing this and looked up at Pei Du.

Pei Du completely ignored Sheng Shixian's gaze. Sheng Shixian's actions had left a considerable psychological scar on Pei Du, and he wanted to teach Sheng Shixian a lesson.

Otherwise, he might dare to do it again.

After Pei Du finished speaking, he went upstairs, closed the door, and all the lights in the villa went out.

Sheng Shixian sat in the shadows, listening to the sound of the door upstairs opening and closing, and looked down at the hot water in the glass.

Steam rose from the hot water, drifting and sprinkling onto Sheng Shixian's cheeks. It was moist, warm, and then slightly cool as it dissipated.

With the gag in his mouth, Sheng Shixian glanced at the second-floor apartment out of the corner of his eye. After a few minutes of silence, he got up and walked back to the sofa where he had been sitting.

“…Pei Du.”

The names that had been vague in his memory before finally took on a concrete form. Even those distant faces came to life.

Sheng Shixian lowered his eyelids, his dark eyes calm and still, but a sharp edge slowly emerged.
