"What if things inside aren't as we expected?" Xiaoxue asked, her voice trembling slightly.
"Then let's settle for second best and protect ourselves," Fei Peng said slowly, silently preparing himself. He knew that if something unexpected happened, they had to remain vigilant at all times.
The two slowly approached the building, the air around them seeming heavy with tension. Fei Peng took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. He kept telling himself: this was a necessary adventure, and only through this adventure could they find the truth.
Upon entering the building, they were enveloped in dim light, and the walls, marked by the passage of time, exuded an air of antiquity. Fei Peng's heartbeat grew clearer in the silent space as he tried to adjust to the unfamiliar environment, carefully observing everything around him.
"Xiaofei, what kind of people will we meet?" Xiaoxue's voice was exceptionally clear in the quiet space.
“I don’t know, but I have a feeling that there are many things here that we can’t understand,” Fei Peng said in a low voice, his eyes darting around, trying to catch any possible clues.
Suddenly, a low murmur of conversation drifted from ahead. Fei Peng and Xiao Xue exchanged a glance, a sense of unease immediately rising within them. Fei Peng knew they had entered an unusual territory, and the fog of the truth was gradually shrouding them.
"Let's be careful and try not to be discovered," Fei Peng whispered, a nervous feeling creeping into his heart, his palms already slightly sweaty. They slowly approached the source of the voice, their hearts filled with both anticipation and trepidation.
"Do you think they will accept our questions?" Xiaoxue asked softly, a hint of unease in her eyes.
“If we can find a suitable entry point, perhaps we can,” Fei Peng replied, trying to keep his voice calm. However, the anxiety in his heart kept surging like a tide.
As they drew closer to the sound, Fei Peng felt a growing unease. His intuition told him that this adventure might be more complex than they imagined, and could bring unexpected consequences.
When they finally saw the source of the sound, the scene before them stunned them. Several people sat around a large wooden table, talking in hushed tones, with various drinks and food laid out before them. Their expressions were focused and serious, as if they were discussing something extremely important.
"Are those them?" Xiaoxue's voice trembled slightly as she stared intently at the people, a sense of fear creeping into her heart.
"It seems so." Fei Peng swallowed hard, a vague unease creeping into his heart. The people's clothing and appearance were unusually distinctive, giving off an unapproachable aura. The atmosphere between them seemed isolated from the outside world, as if they were immersed in their own.
"Should we go up and say hello?" Xiaoxue asked hesitantly, her voice tinged with unease.
"Let's observe their conversation first and see if we can glean any information," Fei Peng replied in a low voice, deciding to observe for a while and make a decision after understanding the situation.
The two hid quietly in the shadows, listening intently to the conversation. The words were interspersed with various technical terms and coded language. Fei Peng frowned, trying to decipher the logic in his mind. The people seemed to be discussing some secret plan; their voices alternated between low and high, revealing an unusual tension.
"Xiaofei, what are they saying?" Xiaoxue asked softly, her eyes showing doubt and worry.
“I heard them mention some projects, and some things that seemed to involve connections,” Fei Peng said in a low voice, trying to remain calm. “But I haven’t figured out the specifics yet.”
Xiaoxue bit her lower lip, her anxiety growing stronger. "What if they find out about us?"
“We’ll be careful and won’t let them find out,” Fei Peng said firmly, silently reminding himself to stay alert. At this moment, they were like hunters in the dark, trying to silently capture useful clues.
Just then, their conversation suddenly became heated, and one of them asked in a low voice, "We must control this situation and not let anyone interfere!"
Fei Peng felt a sense of unease. The content of their conversation made him realize that their environment was far more complex than he had anticipated, and even fraught with danger. He slowly lowered his head, trying to hide himself in the shadows, sensing the atmosphere around him, and attempting to extract useful information from the scattered conversations.
"Xiaofei, what are they saying? It seems important." Xiaoxue's voice rang softly in his ear, tinged with anxiety. Her gaze darted between the people, her inner tension growing stronger. Her hand gripped Feipeng's sleeve tightly, seemingly encouraging him without his knowledge.
“They mentioned controlling the situation,” Fei Peng replied, silently pondering the meaning of those words. He understood that “control” implied threat and oppression; perhaps these people were plotting something sinister. “We need to be careful; these people are definitely not benevolent.”
As the two listened quietly, Fei Peng's shoe inadvertently stepped on the muddy ground, making a soft "plop." His heart skipped a beat, and a sense of unease welled up inside him. He instinctively felt that he might have been exposed. Fei Peng quickly lifted his foot, trying to reduce the noise, but the tension he felt in that instant was already overwhelming.
"Did you hear that?" A voice suddenly rose in pitch among the people sitting around, turning his head to look around.
Feipeng's heart leaped into his throat, inwardly cursing himself for being so careless. He whispered to Xiaoxue, "Quick, back up!"
"Be careful!" Xiaoxue whispered a warning, a hint of unease in her eyes. She gripped Feipeng's hand tightly, trying to pull him back to a more secluded spot. Feipeng nodded vigorously, the tension in his heart intensifying, as if he could hear his own heart pounding.
Just as they were trying to quietly retreat, the men's gazes swept over them, and Fei Peng felt a strong sense of oppression. Their gazes were as sharp as blades, making it hard for him to breathe.
"Is anyone there?" one of them called out coldly, his voice echoing in the empty space. Fei Peng's heart sank, every cell in his body warning him: Run, run!
"Xiaofei, what do we do?" Xiaoxue's voice was tinged with panic, her hands trembled slightly, and her eyes were filled with anxiety and fear.
"Don't panic, try to distract them," Fei Peng said in a low voice, trying to calm himself down. His mind raced, searching for a way out.
