Wang Erniu raised his head, and Zhao Jian looked at him with an unquestionable gaze.

Wang Erniu sighed inwardly. That was all he could do. He accepted the imperial decree, expressed his gratitude, and left the palace.

The General's Mansion.

At the dinner table, the children ate happily, while Wang Erniu dragged his slightly tired body back to his residence with a touch of sadness.

"Husband, you're back!" Chen Wenfang, who had been listening to the noise at the door, came out to greet him with delight.

"Hmm." Wang Erniu turned his face away somewhat guiltily.

Chen Wenfang wasn't easily fooled; there was such an obvious bruise on her forehead. "What happened to your face?"

"It's nothing much. I just asked the officials for a favor, and now I can take you to Youzhou with me. Come on, let's eat first!" Wang Erniu said casually.

Chen Wenfang understood, however, that he must have put in a lot of effort to get it.

The two entered the courtyard in silence.

"Father, you're back!" Chen Xuanyu and Xiao Hao exclaimed together. The sound of their voices filled the air.

"Hmm. How was school today?" Wang Erniu sat down calmly despite the bruises on his face and asked them with a smile.

Chen Wenfang also returned to normal, served him a bowl of chicken soup, and ordered someone to bring him the food that had been specially reserved for him.

"Daddy, who did this to your forehead? I'll get revenge for you." Chen Xuanyu said, pointing at his head while gnawing on a chicken leg.

Wang Erniu laughed heartily, all his worries gone. "It's nothing, I made it myself. Does Xuanzai like chicken legs? Here, I'll give you this chicken leg too."

Chen Xuanyu waved his hand, "No need, one is enough for me."

Chen Wenfang was always fair. She would kill a few chickens, and the children would eat them leg by leg, just like the adults. They were all old hens with huge legs. With other meat and vegetables, there was basically enough for them to eat, and the children weren't greedy.

Xiao Hao listened to his father's words without saying anything, and silently ate the rice in his bowl.

After finishing their meal and returning to their room, Wang Erniu pulled Chen Wenfang aside and explained everything, mainly thinking about how to bring it up with the children.

To everyone's surprise, Chen Wenfang immediately refused, saying, "I don't agree! I'm taking the children with me."

"My lady, calm down! No one can refuse what the Emperor says; that would be defying the imperial decree!" Wang Erniu looked at her red eyes, pulled her tightly clenched handkerchief, and, afraid she would hurt herself, slowly pried open her fingers to warm her heart.

"But why?" Chen Wenfang asked, her eyes red, tears rolling down her cheeks like pearls.

“You risked your life for him and for this country, and he doubted you and kept our children hostage. It’s not worth it at all.”

Wang Erniu felt extremely distressed and pulled her into his arms.

“My wife, if you think about it from a different perspective, Youzhou is dangerous. We will hold the line in front, and the children will be absolutely safe in the capital. The Emperor has not come to power legitimately, so it is only natural for him to be suspicious. He was unwilling to let you go with me, but he agreed after I kowtowed twice, which proves that he is actually soft-hearted.”

“But they are still so young,” Chen Wenfang still refused.

Wang Erniu clumsily wiped away her tears, "You're not young anymore. Xuan'er is almost ten years old. In two more years, he can get married and have children."

"Uh, let's wait a bit longer. We should wait until at least eighteen. It's bad for her health if she's too young." Chen Wenfang was immediately steered away from the topic, and her tears dried up.

"What should we do now? How can we bring this up with the child?" Chen Wenfang was at a loss.

"Don't worry, my dear wife. I'll talk to them. They'll understand. I've already notified Chu Yi to come back." Wang Erniu patted her back to reassure her.

"I'll go with you. I can't let you be the bad guy all the time." Chen Wenfang held his large hand, her warmth unchanged.

In the training ground, several children were playing and running around, trampling the newly grown grass in the yard.

Brother Nie and his brothers were all there, swords clashing, the clanging of blades echoing, the men cheering and urging each other on, making it quite a lively scene.

When Wang Erniu and Chen Wenfang arrived, everyone stopped.

"Greetings, General! Madam!"

Wang Erniu waved his hand, "You guys carry on, Big Brother, come over here and discuss something with me. Xuan'er, you guys come too!"

Brother Nie looked at his face, focusing on his forehead, wiped the sweat off, and came over.

Chen Xuanyu and the others, not understanding what was going on, followed along.

Once inside, Wang Erniu got straight to the point, glancing at the children, "We need to go to Youzhou in three days, and the Emperor wants you to stay in the capital."

"The Emperor has quite the idea," Brother Nie said sarcastically.

"Mother, I want to go with you." Chen Xuanyu subconsciously retorted.

"Then I want to come too!" said Fifteen, that tagalong.

Xiao Hao stared at his father without saying anything.

Wang Erniu looked at Xiao Hao with affection in his eyes.

"Dad, I'll stay!" Xiao Hao suddenly laughed, forcing a relaxed smile. "I'm going to school. Staying with you and Mom might interfere with my studies."

Upon hearing this, Chen Wenfang burst into tears and turned away to cry.

This child, though the youngest, is the most sensible.

Wang Erniu's eyes reddened again. He patted his head, looking somewhat distressed.

"What's wrong?" Chu Yi asked as he took off his cloak, seeing the whole family crying as he entered the house.

"Our good emperor won't let the general take the child with him to Youzhou!" Brother Nie poured himself a cup of tea and said wildly, "Second brother, why don't we just stop working for him? He's causing too much trouble every day."

Wang Erniu smiled upon hearing this; he had actually thought about it at the time.

"It's alright!" Chu Yi sat down, poured himself a bowl of water, drank it all in one gulp, and placed it heavily on the table. "Uncle, you go ahead. I'll stay in the capital to take care of them. Besides, I'm worried about leaving the rear unattended if you go there."

"What about the intelligence from Youzhou?" Chen Wenfang asked, her eyes red.

"Let Lin San go with you. There's already an intelligence network there, but it's not comprehensive enough. Once Lin San gets there, we can supplement it, and then you can focus on fighting the Liao people." Chu Yi had planned it very well.

Wang Erniu nodded with satisfaction, "That's good. He can already handle things on his own. I feel at ease leaving my brother in your care."

"Pah, pah, what are you saying?" Chen Wenfang quickly spat a few times, it was too unlucky.

Chu Yi looked at them and said, "Don't worry, I'll take care of things here."

Chen Wenfang asked with concern, "Do you have enough people at your disposal? If you stay here, you'll definitely attract attention, and I'm afraid someone will target you."

"Godmother, I have a lot of people on my side. I have backup plans, so don't worry," Chu Yi replied softly. Whenever he was with her, he always felt loved. Everyone else had seen his strength and growth, but she was still concerned about his safety.

"It's just that you've had a hard time." Chen Wenfang touched his shoulder, her heart softening.

Chu Yi smiled brightly, "Not at all. I am now incredibly powerful. I love this kind of life."

"Hahaha! You've got potential!" Brother Nie and Wang Erniu were very pleased. This kid is good, strong and confident.
