Divorced woman with child travels through time
Chapter 3 The Woman Who Cannot Be Defeated
Chen Wenfang was woken up by hunger, and actually slept until the next morning. The baby was still asleep. Perhaps her body was too thin and tired after transmigrating, and she needed plenty of sleep to replenish her energy. She decided to wander around first, hoping to find something. However, why didn't she have any of the original owner's memories after transmigrating? She couldn't figure it out. If she couldn't figure it out, she wouldn't think about it anymore.
First, Chen Wenfang searched the place. She ran to the kitchen, a crucial area, to see if there was any food. After searching for a while, she found an old iron pot with several small holes in the rim on the stove. It should still work for now. Next to the stove, she found a tinderbox in a crack in the wall. "Thank goodness for this! I don't know how to start a fire by friction!" Chen Wenfang thought to herself. She then found two chipped bowls and a rusty kitchen knife, only two-thirds intact, in a cobweb-covered, doorless cabinet nearby. "Thank goodness, it still works." Chen Wenfang muttered to herself as she searched.
Why isn't there a bucket? After searching the kitchen, Chen Wenfang went to the two adjacent side rooms. These two side rooms were even more pitifully simple, with practically nothing except for the kang (a heated brick bed). She rummaged through the straw on the kang and actually found three copper coins. "Zong...De...Yuan...Bao!! Does this era exist in our country's dynasties? I don't think so. Could it be from another timeline?"
Next time I see someone, I'll ask them. Having money is important; it can buy things. Chen Wenfang felt around in her clothes. Ancient people's clothes should have hidden pockets, right? Hmm, something hard. She unbuttoned her clothes and found a sewn-on hidden pocket under her right breast. There was a drawstring on the pocket. She opened the drawstring and found two small pieces of silver. It seems that this ancient mother was also a thrifty person. Chen Wenfang felt a little regretful, put the coins in, tied the drawstring, and covered her clothes.
Newbie Chen continued collecting, finding an old bucket in the outhouse. She smelled it; there was no strange odor, and it didn't seem to have any suspicious liquid residue. "It shouldn't be the kind someone else used," Chen Wenfang thought to herself.
I found a large section of old hemp rope, stretched it a bit, and it didn't break. It should be good enough to tie things up.
After searching the house thoroughly but finding nothing usable, Chen Wenfang picked up a wooden bucket and a knife, tucked a rope into her pocket, and headed to the pond. "It was an empty house to begin with, yet I managed to find something useful. I'm amazing, hehe," Chen Wenfang encouraged herself as she walked.
Reaching the pond, she plucked some wild grass to use as a brush, washed the wooden bucket and knife, and washed her face as well. Having grown up in the countryside, these tasks were effortless for Chen Wenfang. Her body was accustomed to farm work; her hands and feet had thick calluses, and her feet didn't ache even without shoes. Aside from being a little weak from hunger, she was quite satisfied with her body. After cleaning the bucket, she took the knife and went to the nearby wasteland to dig up a large handful of thatch roots. She washed them, tied them with hemp rope, and carried the bucket of leaking water in one hand and the thatch roots in the other, heading home.
Back in the kitchen, I first poured some water to roughly wash the pot, then shoveled some ash out of the stove, lit it, and boiled water. Once the water was hot, I added some wood ash and carefully scrubbed the pot and stovetop several times. Then I rinsed the pot several times with clean water and waited for it to heat up.
Clean water was used to boil the cogongrass roots. Chen Wenfang had already carried five buckets of water by the end of the trip; she was really hungry.
While the food was cooking, she checked on the baby. He was still asleep, his little chest rising and falling softly, snoring gently. "It's so good that you're still here," Chen Wenfang thought. After checking on her son, Chen Wenfang went behind the house to gather some branches and firewood from the mountains, which she then used to build a small fire in the stove to slowly cook the food. She would gather some branches and firewood every now and then, checking the fire as she went, repeating this process every now and then.
