Urban Demon Refining System

004 The function of petals

"Ring ring~" After enduring nearly half an hour of strange looks, the bell that Zhao Baichuan had been waiting for finally rang.

"Xiao Mo, I'm off!" It was already 9:30 p.m., but high school students were already used to this kind of life. The road leading to the school gate was crowded with students.

"Tch, fine, I'm leaving. No need to report to me." Lin Xiaomo picked up her schoolbag. "Excuse me! I have to go to tutoring!"

"Uh..." Zhao Baichuan had no choice but to awkwardly step aside, secretly wondering what was wrong with this girl. She was usually so gentle with him!

"Tong Qianqian, what's wrong with Xiao Mo?" Zhao Baichuan had no choice but to pin his hopes on Lin Xiao Mo's best friend.

"Go figure it out yourself!" Tong Qianqian rolled her eyes at him. "Excuse me, I'm going home too!"

"Holy crap, what's going on today?!" Zhao Baichuan said, somewhat annoyed. But then, thinking about the strange game on his phone, his heart suddenly burned with excitement; it seemed he had encountered something truly extraordinary!

Thinking this, he couldn't stay still any longer and hurriedly grabbed his schoolbag and ran out.

"Bus!" The last bus in Zhao Baichuan's city was scheduled to depart at 9:40. After a frantic rush, he finally caught the last bus.

"Xiao Chuan, why are you so late today!" Since most of the students live in school district housing near the school, there are very few passengers who need to take the bus, which makes Zhao Baichuan and the driver Lao Liang quite familiar with each other.

"Uncle Liang, it's your night shift again tonight!"

"That's right, all the young men are busy dating, so they had to drag this old man out!" Old Liang said as he turned the steering wheel, and the bus slowly started moving.

"Oh." It's best not to disturb the driver while he's driving, so Zhao Baichuan wisely kept quiet and took out his phone to fiddle with it.

"Huh? There's a monster around here!" Upon opening the game interface, a dark red droplet of blood immediately caught his eye. Zhao Baichuan looked at it curiously and discovered that the monster was actually not far away. He subconsciously looked out the car window and saw a dark shadow flying across the sky in the distance.

"Is this Lefu Plaza?" By this time, they had walked three stops past Zhao Baichuan's school. In the dim light of the streetlights, they could vaguely see the huge sculpture in the plaza.

Lefu Plaza is the largest leisure plaza in T City, where Zhao Baichuan lives. It is lined with shops and neon lights, but there is an exception. On the east side of the plaza, there is only darkness, where an unfinished building stands. And the direction from which the shadowy figure flew and landed was precisely there.

"Could there be a monster there?" Zhao Baichuan secretly noted this place down. Judging from the reaction on the map, this monster didn't seem to be easy to deal with.

"Boom boom~" The bus continued to move, but to his disappointment, the map on his phone did not show any trace of other monsters for the rest of the journey.

Zhao Baichuan arrived home safely without incident.

"Dad, I'm home!" Zhao Baichuan called out as he pushed open the door, and only turned on the light after confirming that no one was home.

Zhao Baichuan's father, Zhao Dahai, was a retired soldier who ran a taxi business to support Zhao Baichuan's schooling. He had never seen his mother since birth, and his father always remained silent when asked. Over time, this thorn was buried deep in Baichuan's heart. "I'm from a single-parent family; I don't have a mother!" Zhao Baichuan repeatedly told himself. His longing for a mother likely only existed in his dreams.

"Looks like he's off running errands again!" Zhao Baichuan threw his schoolbag on the table and sprawled out on the sofa. This was his favorite position after school, the only way he could let go of all his worries and relax completely.

"Hua Hua~" Just then, the phone screen in the pocket suddenly lit up, and the petite figure of the flower fairy popped out from it.

"Huh? You little guy can actually come out by yourself?" Although I thought the game was pretty amazing, I didn't expect it to be this realistic.

"Flower!" The flower fairy ignored his surprise and kept circling around his pocket, as if urging him to do something.

"Oh, I almost forgot!" Zhao Baichuan slapped his forehead, only then realizing that he still had two pockets full of flower petals on him!

"How do I use these petals?" Back in his room, Zhao Baichuan dumped all the petals onto his desk. "Can I eat them?" he asked, putting a petal into his mouth.

"Hua Hua!" The flower fairy tried anxiously to stop her, but it was too late.

"Ugh, ptooey! So bitter!" The moment the petal entered his mouth, the bitter taste filled his entire taste buds, making him gag.

"Hua Hua!" The flower fairy glanced at him with disdain and deliberately kept her distance, thinking to herself, "How embarrassing it is to have such a master!"

"Um, flower, how do I use these petals?!" After witnessing the flower fairy's series of magical performances, Zhao Baichuan no longer considered this game as a simple game.

"Flower!" The flower fairy picked up a petal and let it flutter around the room, as if searching for something.

"Hua Hua~" Suddenly, her eyes lit up, and she flew towards the windowsill.

"Huh? What's that..." Zhao Baichuan was taken aback. There seemed to be nothing there except for a half-dead cactus.

It's really the cactus's bad luck to have such an owner. Although it's very resilient, it can't withstand constant neglect. Look, there's only a thin layer of soil in the pot. It's a miracle that this cactus is still alive. However, the flower fairy's target right now is this very cactus!

She placed the petal towards the base of the cactus, and the moment it touched the base, it vanished.

"Huh? That's interesting!" Although he still didn't understand what the petals were for, this magical scene immediately piqued Zhao Baichuan's interest. He followed suit and placed the petals one by one into the cactus pot.

"Nothing's changed!?" With anticipation, Zhao Baichuan placed the cactus on his bedside table and stared at it for a while, hoping it would bring him some surprise. However, no surprise happened until his eyelids started to droop.

"Ugh..." Unable to hold on any longer, Zhao Baichuan collapsed onto the bed and drifted off to sleep.
