Rebirth of a Top Student's Handbook
Chapter 74 The clown is actually me
"Have you gone back yet? If not, you should come back soon."
"What's wrong?" Zhou Min asked in surprise. She had already packed everything and was waiting for the courier to pick it up.
"Mao Yating's mother is here. I wonder what she said to the school? Counselor Zhao just contacted Feng Pinling and asked us to go to the Foreign Languages Department office later. Where are you now?" Jiang Fei asked anxiously.
Jiang Fei bought a train ticket for tonight, but was suddenly notified to stay behind, which made her very anxious.
How hard is it to get train tickets during the Spring Festival travel rush? Anyone who's tried knows. Jiang Fei suspected that if she missed today's train, she might not be able to get home before the New Year.
"I'll go back now, I'll be there in about 10 minutes." Zhou Min didn't understand why the school wanted her to stay behind.
The three of them and Mao Yating were neither in the same major nor in the same exam room, so there was no point in them staying.
"Then you can go straight to the office. Feng Pinling and I will go ahead first." Since Zhou Min had an electric scooter, Jiang Fei and Feng Pinling took the school bus there first.
When Zhou Min rushed to the Foreign Languages Institute's office, she found that many people were already sitting inside.
The only people Zhou Min knew were Instructor Zhao, Instructor Zhou, and Mao Yating's parents, whom she had only met once. She didn't know the other four people.
This is a reception room with three sofas and a coffee table. Mao Yating's parents are sitting on one of the sofas, while Instructor Zhou and Instructor Zhao are sitting opposite them.
There were four people sitting on the sofa in front of her, three men and one woman. Zhou Min didn't recognize any of them, but she suspected that they must be teachers from the School of Foreign Languages.
That stylish young woman must be the academic advisor that Mao Yating used to praise in the dormitory.
Mao Yating stood next to her mother, while Feng Pinling and Jiang Fei stood directly opposite her at the coffee table. The whole scene looked as if Feng Pinling and Jiang Fei were the ones being criticized for making a mistake, while Mao Yating was just a younger relative visiting with her parents.
After Zhou Min entered the room, although she felt awkward, she still took the initiative to stand with Feng Pinling and Jiang Fei after greeting them.
The four teachers opposite were all stunned when they saw Zhou Min. The girl was about 170 cm tall, and her fair and delicate skin looked even more radiant against the backdrop of her long white down jacket.
Even the heavy down jacket couldn't hide her slender figure. Her jet-black hair was tied into a large bun, with stray hairs falling across her forehead and cheeks.
She looked fresh and beautiful, like a childhood dream that could only exist in imagination.
Unfortunately, among the teachers present, apart from Teacher Zhao who was relatively young, the other teachers were all seasoned veterans and quickly regained their composure.
A teacher sitting on the far left of the opposite sofa, with a stern expression, directly reprimanded, "Why are you only arriving now?"
Zhou Min was stunned for a moment. Hadn't she rushed over as soon as she received the call? Zhou Min felt a little resentful, but because she didn't know the situation, she could only suppress her emotions and calmly accept the man's criticism.
"Alright, everyone's here, let's begin. We'll talk about the issue of learning attitude," said the second teacher from the left, a bespectacled man in his forties with a refined appearance.
Zhou Min was a little confused, but she patiently listened attentively to the teacher with a slight smile on her face.
"The school has a rule that all freshmen are not allowed to bring computers to school during the first semester, do you know that?"
After hearing this, Zhou Min and the other two exchanged bewildered glances. Zhou Min genuinely didn't know that the Capital University had such a policy; after all, in their later years, computers had long been necessities, so such a policy was nowhere to be found.
Feng Pinling, however, knew that the school had this rule, and that it wasn't just Capital University that had it; other schools had it too.
The main purpose of this school rule is twofold: firstly, because there are not many professional courses in the first year that require the use of computers; and secondly, to prevent college students from becoming distracted by playing computer games and neglecting their studies while still adjusting to university life.
But isn't this school rule just for show? As far as Feng Pinling knows, no university has ever bothered a student with this issue. Even if there are disciplinary actions, expulsions, or dismissals, they are all due to students failing too many courses and falling behind academically because of playing games.
"But don't all students at school have computers?" Jiang Fei could only bite the bullet and say when Zhou Min and Feng Pinling remained silent.
"You can't project your own experience onto others. There are four computers in your dorm right now, right?" The teacher glanced at Jiang Fei and continued.
Zhou Min couldn't understand what the teacher was trying to say, and remained silent.
Jiang Fei glanced at the time; it was already 3 PM. She had bought a ticket for 6 PM, and the school was more than an hour's drive from the train station. Considering the traffic jams and ticket checks, Jiang Fei felt increasingly anxious.
Seeing that no one responded, the dark-faced man on the far left immediately said angrily, "Director Wang is talking to you! What's going on with you?"
"Yes." Zhou Min and the other two exchanged glances and replied in unison.
What do you usually use your computer for? Playing games? Watching shows?
Zhou Min felt that the teacher was acting strangely and looked at Instructor Zhou and Instructor Zhao with questions, but Instructor Zhou kept his head down and looked at the table, so Zhou Min couldn't see his expression at all.
After exchanging glances for a few seconds, Instructor Zhao and Zhou Min turned their heads away.
Unable to obtain any information from the two counselors, Zhou Min lowered her eyes and began to ponder the whole matter.
It's obvious that the three of them are standing here today because of their involvement in Mao Yating's plagiarism incident, but Zhou Min doesn't know what mistakes they made in this matter that would make the school target them.
When Zhou Min came to her senses, she heard the stern-faced teacher questioning Jiang Fei: "Then why didn't you try to persuade your roommate after you stopped playing games?"
Zhou Min frowned slightly when she heard the teacher's trash talk.
Is this teacher out of their mind?!
Zhou Min looked over at Mao Yating and her family of three. When Mao Yating saw Zhou Min looking over, her eyes darted away for a moment, and then she moved closer to her mother.
Mao's mother, who was smiling as she watched the stern-faced teacher question Jiang Fei, immediately lowered her lips and looked coldly at Zhou Min after sensing Mao Yating's actions.
Looking at Mao's mother's cold face, Zhou Min couldn't help but sigh. This was what women within the system were like—they naturally exuded official authority. She was completely different from how Zhou Min had treated Mao Yating when she brought her to school for the first time.
Now, not only does Mao's mother not show any of the anxiety that parents of students who have made mistakes experience, but she can even offer some advice when other teachers are interrogating Jiang Fei.
They acted exactly like the parents of the victimized student, expecting the school to uphold justice.
This scene left Zhou Min speechless.
What Zhou Min didn't know was that Mao Yating's mother worked in the Education Bureau and was currently a section chief. Although her position wasn't high, she had a wide network of connections in the education circle.
Mao Yating's smooth admission to the Capital University was inseparable from her mother's support, who found the most suitable and easiest path to higher education for Mao Yating from the very beginning.
Although Mao Yating, who was no longer under her control, did not have excellent grades in college because she was playful, she didn't care.
She had already planned Mao Yating's future path. As long as Mao Yating could graduate smoothly from the Capital University, she could help Mao Yating enter her ideal unit through talent introduction, find a capable husband, and achieve success in both career and family.
Therefore, no one and nothing should tarnish Mao Yating's life at the very first step. This is why she directly asked her old classmate to invite the director of the Academic Affairs Office of Capital University today.
Sure enough, the school's attitude changed immediately when they arrived, but she was still unwilling to give up. She didn't want Mao Yating to have any stain on her reputation, so she wanted to completely clear her name.
"I heard you often stay off-campus?" Mao's mother asked, looking at the bright and beautiful Zhou Min.
