Rebirth of a Top Student's Handbook
Chapter 5 Those Naïve Memories
Xu Lingyuan was probably a little embarrassed because he had never been rejected by Zhou Min like this before, and the scene suddenly fell silent.
"Zhou Min, why are you so quiet today?" Chen Sheng asked, leaning on the table.
Needless to say, this statement clearly indicates that Zhou Min is a chatterbox.
Zhou Min gritted her teeth inwardly. Chen Sheng, you pig, you never imagined how you would beg and plead with me to make me happy, just so I would talk to you a little more.
"Mind your own business, you pig." Zhou Min said angrily and turned around, completely ignoring Chen Sheng, whose face was a little ugly after she yelled at him.
"Chen Sheng, how does it feel to be scolded by our beautiful Zhou?" Xu Lingyuan's sly laughter rang out.
Zhou Min couldn't help but want to turn back and curse a few more times, but then she thought better of it. After all, she usually tried her best to please Xu Lingyuan, and such a big change now would probably attract attention.
"Even you got scolded, so it's normal for me to get scolded too." Hearing Chen Sheng's nonchalant reply, only Zhou Min knew that he must be feeling very frustrated inside.
But he deserves it; who told him to always be so stubborn with himself? Yes, he's the kind of person who, when unhappy, goes off to sulk on his own.
This always made Zhou Min even angrier. She would rather have a fight than have someone give her a hard time.
Zhou Min is also a person with unpredictable moods, and gradually she developed the habit of not speaking when she is unhappy, which eventually led to frequent cold wars between the couple.
On second thought, Chen Sheng must have realized that he liked Xu Lingyuan by this time. Yes, he had made it so obvious that everyone probably knew.
But thanks to Xu Lingyuan's handsome looks, she wasn't the only girl in the classroom who stood out, but Xu Lingyuan was only particularly enthusiastic towards her.
Everyone assumed that Xu Lingyuan liked her, but only Zhou Min knew that he only hoped to improve his grades through her.
I guess he set himself as his goal. From the second year of junior high to now, the gap between him and himself has been getting smaller and smaller. He must feel a great sense of accomplishment.
However, he didn't realize that being too concerned about winning or losing caused him to underperform in his high school entrance exam. In high school, because he didn't have any opponents like himself who were willing to give it their all, he ended up only getting into a second-tier university, despite his hard work.
The afternoon passed quickly; the whole afternoon was spent distributing and going over the test papers.
Everyone was silently remembering the achievements of others, except for Zhou Min. Whether before or after her rebirth, Zhou Min was always an arrogant person.
In her eyes, no one was her match. Even if she never got first place, it was only because the questions were too easy and she was careless.
Before her rebirth, Zhou Min felt this way. After her rebirth, she realized that her perspective was too narrow and that she shouldn't just focus on the classmates around her.
Only Zhou Min knew that in that classroom, only she and her husband achieved the best results in the college entrance examination. Many others performed only moderately well in high school.
After afternoon classes, Zhou Min went out and bought some steamed buns to eat back in the classroom. Once inside, she found everyone was comparing their grades. That's how students are; they care about their rankings on every exam.
"Zhou Min, what was your score on the politics exam?" Xu Lingyuan knew all his scores perfectly well, except for politics, because the politics teacher hadn't reported the results.
“37,” Zhou Min answered while eating a steamed bun.
"No way, let me see the exam paper." Politics is out of 50, and Zhou Min's scores are consistently between 30 and 34. Why is it so consistent? Because she gets all the multiple-choice questions right, and for the short-answer questions, it depends on the teacher's mood; the teacher might occasionally give her 1 to 4 points for her hard work.
Zhou Min handed the exam paper to Xu Lingyuan, letting him look at it as he pleased. The fact that he was staring at her meant he thought highly of her; as long as she didn't make any mistakes in the future, everything would be fine.
After all, their relationship was just a secret crush that everyone knew about, but no one had ever confronted it. Now, all she had to do was save face and salvage some dignity.
I remember that back then, I used to pester Xu Lingyuan to talk to me every day. It seemed like I was arrogant to everyone else, but in front of Xu Lingyuan, I became like a little wife, which made many people laugh at me.
In particular, she ended up giving up her spot in a provincial key high school to attend a private high school because Xu Lingyuan, while Xu Lingyuan spent a considerable amount of money at home to get into a provincial key high school.
In this way, all of Zhou Min's efforts became a joke, and no one appreciated them.
After the first year of high school military training, Zhou Min was taken to her school by her good friend Li Na. She ran into Xu Lingyuan at the library entrance. Xu Lingyuan simply greeted her and left without any remorse or feeling of reunion.
From then on, Zhou Min only felt admiration for his appearance. As for everything else, it had long since faded away with the isolation she experienced during her three years of high school.
"Wow, you actually answered the short answer question this time! The teacher is very generous in awarding you points for your hard work."
As Zhou Min listened to Xu Ling's words, she gritted her teeth and thought to herself: That's because my sister hadn't found the trick to political questions before. After writing so many materials, she's now quite good at answering these kinds of short-answer questions in the humanities.
"Let me see it too," Chen Sheng called out from behind, not wanting to be left out.
Upon hearing Chen Sheng's voice, Zhou Min suddenly remembered that when she and Chen Sheng were together, they would complain about each other's poor grades.
Zhou Min only remembered that Chen Sheng was quite smart, and was obviously different from the hardworking students around him, but he seemed to be just like her and had never been number one.
In Zhou Min's eyes, no one had better grades than her, so she only remembered some classmates who were always number one in exams.
Chen Sheng probably felt the same way, but it was obvious that he remembered Zhou Min's grades in junior high school and often used them to mock her.
"Give it to me." Zhou Min decided not to give Chen Sheng another reason to laugh at her. Without saying a word, she took back the test paper.
"Look, Zhou Min won't let you see it. Zhou Min, I'll look a little longer, I promise I won't give it to Chen Sheng," Xu Lingyuan said with a grin.
Seeing Chen Sheng sit down nonchalantly, Zhou Min knew he must be furious. But he deserved it; who told him to mock her for not having as good grades as him in junior high?
Thinking of this, Zhou Min took out the test papers for each subject and calculated the scores. She got 119 in Chinese and only 38 in composition. Who would have thought that this was the score of someone who had once won first prize in a provincial composition competition?
This is the Chinese teacher who doesn't like my compositions. My compositions have never received high marks in her hands. But it doesn't matter, because I got a perfect score on my college entrance exam composition.
Math 116, needless to say, at the bottom. English 148, not bad. Wow, I never knew my English was so good back then.
Physics 100, Chemistry 99 (out of 100, I only felt the total score was too low). Politics 37, which was an exceptional performance this time. History 32, which was at my normal level.
With a total score of 651, out of a possible 750, I estimate I'll be 60 or 70 points behind the first-place finisher.
Turning her head slightly, Zhou Min quietly asked her deskmate, "I can only guess everyone's grades based on hers." Zhou Min remembered that her deskmate Lin Xin's grades were quite good; she remembered that Lin Xin ranked second in the class during the high school entrance exam.
"Anyway, I'm better than you." Lin Xin was clearly the self-righteous type.
At this stage, students are still stuck in their immature, adolescent phase, and each one thinks they are amazing.
I imagine that a hardworking kid like Lin Xin would look down on someone like Zhou Min who just coasts through life, even if she has good grades.
Zhou Min felt a surge of anger. "Heh, Lin Xin, have you forgotten how you begged me to introduce you to someone after you graduated from teachers' college?"
If your sister introduces you to someone else, I'll be a complete idiot.
