Rebirth of a Top Student's Handbook
Chapter 27 Opening a Snack Shop
Choosing the wrong major was a regret of Zhou Min's past life. In this life, Zhou Min only wanted to learn a major that could quickly realize her abilities, so she set her sights on software programming. It's worth noting that Zhou Min was also a skilled coder in her past life, but her career path wasn't in that area. After working for a while and wanting to switch careers, the software industry wasn't very receptive to someone like her who had entered the field halfway through. And Zhou Min herself gradually lost touch with the programming languages she had once learned. Thus, Zhou Min remained stuck in a limbo in her small county town, neither highly qualified nor unqualified for a job.
Looking at this basic book, Zhou Min felt it was necessary to review her basic knowledge. She felt that this gradual approach, from simple to complex, had unconsciously drawn her full attention into it.
Zhou Min was so engrossed in her studies that she didn't even hear her mother calling her for dinner. Her mother came to check on her twice, but each time, seeing how absorbed Zhou Min was, she couldn't bear to disturb her and left. After the food had been reheated time and time again, Zhou's father finally couldn't stand it anymore and took the book from Zhou Min's hands to bring her attention back.
Zhou Min used to have this kind of study habit. Although she didn't like studying, when she was focused on it, she couldn't think or hear anything except the content of the book. Of course, the grown-up Zhou Min no longer had this state of mind.
Zhou Min sat down at the table and started eating. Zhou's parents were already used to Zhou Min's state. If it weren't for the fact that she needed to eat and sleep, they would wish Zhou Min was like this every day.
The weekend passed in the blink of an eye. During morning reading, the teacher announced again that there would be a school assembly that morning. Zhou Min knew this was because the school had finally finished the preparations for the start of the semester and was now recognizing students who had passed the final exams last semester. Although Zhou Min didn't know her exact ranking, she estimated that she was definitely in the top five.
As expected, when the awards were given, Zhou Min, Li Na, Xu Li, Chen Sheng, and Zhu Da were ranked 1st to 5th respectively, while Lin Xin came in sixth place. Although she was only one place behind, she was still very unhappy. You see, in this day and age, if you are careful with your money, 50 yuan is almost enough for a month's living expenses.
Back in the classroom, more students came to borrow Zhou Min's test papers, and she lent them both math and physics papers. Actually, the fact that everyone likes to borrow test papers is a great learning method; referring to the problem-solving approaches of high-achieving students helps them understand and memorize the material.
Another week passed as Zhou Min studied on her own. This week felt like an eternity for Zhou's mother, who, despite her love of mahjong, couldn't find any mahjong partners in town. Feeling empty and lonely, Zhou Min suddenly spotted a restaurant being sold. Her gossipy mother inquired and learned that the family had opened another shop in the county town, and the one in town hadn't been open for a long time; they were planning to sell it this time.
After inquiring about the price, Zhou's mother started discussing it with Zhou's father when she got home that evening. Although Zhou's father was rather lazy and didn't want to deal with these things, he couldn't resist Zhou's mother's strong personality. So, as usual, Zhou's mother informed Zhou's father and Zhou Min, and through her persistent pestering, she rented it at a relatively cheap price. You should know that the owner originally intended to sell it, but in the end, Zhou's mother persuaded him to agree to rent it to her for six months first, and then buy it after six months.
Zhou Min knew that she had only rented the house for six months, and after that she would be going to study in the county town. Her mother wouldn't be able to buy a shop in town at that time. But seeing that her mother had already paid the rent, Zhou Min couldn't say anything.
Because Zhou's mother had often been in charge of cooking for over twenty people back in her parents' home, and her cooking skills were quite good, the restaurant she ran was doing quite well. She even had Zhou's father borrow their old oven from her parents' home. Zhou Min's maternal grandfather's family used to run a food processing factory, mainly a family workshop, and Zhou's mother was the main operator. Therefore, she was very adept at making cakes, bread, egg rolls, cookies, and the like, and they were all mass-produced.
Zhou's mother never expected that she could start a food business again after getting married so many years later. Before she got married, she was the mainstay of her family's workshop. After getting married, although she couldn't help her parents' family every day, she still went back to help most of the time, even when she was pregnant. It wasn't until after she gave birth to Zhou Min that she started to go back to help less. Without Zhou's mother as the mainstay, her maternal grandfather's workshop gradually became unsustainable. After all, not everyone is as capable and hardworking as Zhou's mother.
Seeing how dedicated her mother was to her work, Zhou Min often helped out. Occasionally, when accompanying Sister Zhang to select goods, she would also bring back some recipes for her mother. Although Zhou Min hadn't even graduated from elementary school, the studious Zhou Min had always secretly studied. After getting married, with her father's guidance, she had no problem understanding these recipes.
Mr. Zhou, perhaps accustomed to being called upon by Mrs. Zhou every day, gradually became more diligent. And so, the family, busy with their own tasks each day, found their days fulfilling. Mrs. Zhou, too, gradually found confidence in her daily business and no longer snapped at Mr. Zhou as easily as before.
In our busy lives, time seems to fly by. Half a semester has passed in the blink of an eye. As the midterm exams approach, the chemistry teacher announces that there will be a provincial chemistry competition this semester and encourages everyone to sign up.
I remember in my past life, everyone signed up, but maybe because the school was too low-level, the teachers didn't take it seriously. No teacher told them that the competition didn't test the knowledge in the books. So even though the students reviewed the chemistry book thoroughly, everyone was eliminated in the preliminary test.
Moreover, Zhou Min was the most unlucky in her previous life. Although most of her classmates did not order the competition materials, Zhou Min did. However, she had never looked at them before and originally planned to cram before the exam. But before Zhou Min could even look at them, Zhu Da borrowed them. Zhou Min was too embarrassed to ask for them back, so she took the exam unprepared.
Zhou Min didn't feel any regret after the exam, but later she heard from her teacher that she was only 3 points away from entering the re-examination. Zhou Min also found many similar competition questions in the book that Zhu Da returned. Because of this, Zhou Min began to resent Zhu Da. Although even if Zhu Da hadn't lent it to her, Zhou Min probably wouldn't have looked at it, but that's how people are; they always find excuses for themselves.
Thinking of this, Zhou Min quickly registered and ordered study materials. She noticed that many students had ordered the materials, but she guessed that these students either hadn't read them in their past lives like she had, or they simply couldn't understand them. After all, the competition content was quite difficult for them, especially since the teachers wouldn't provide any guidance. It was normal for them not to understand.
