Reborn in the Apocalypse: A Commoner's Survival Log

Chapter 93 Burning Down the Ivy's Lair

Everyone quickly tied the military dogs and sleds together, and then helped the wounded up to settle them in.

Zhou Yang and the others were about to re-tie the peas onto the sled and then lift Yan Fei up first.

Suddenly, the previously quiet Pea perked up its ears, tensed up, turned around, and yelled at the group behind them, as if it had seen some formidable enemy.

The group of people immediately turned around to look.

A vine suddenly appeared and reached the group in the blink of an eye. Before anyone could react, it wrapped around the leg of the last soldier and pulled him away.

"Damn it! What the hell is this piece of trash?!"

Enraged that his own soldier had been dragged away by a plant right in front of him, Zhou Xian cursed and grabbed his gun to give chase, only to be entangled by another vine that suddenly attacked. If his comrade hadn't spotted him and cut the vine, he too would have been dragged away.

But as soon as one vine breaks, even more vines immediately surround it.

Everyone could only passively defend against the vine attacks, with no chance to save anyone.

"Damn it! This thing is back again!" Song Lian cursed as he saw the vines reappear. He quickly went over to help and called over his fire-type ability brothers. "Quick, fire-type ability users, come and burn it! This mutated plant is afraid of fire!"

Several fire-type ability users rushed over to help upon hearing the commotion, and Zhou Yang also called over Pea.

The others naturally couldn't just stand by and watch, so they all grabbed their weapons and stepped forward to help deal with the mutated plant.

Since Zhou Yang didn't have any special abilities, he held the military knife and tried to stay at the back so as not to hold the others back, occasionally helping to cut off a few branches.

He kept his eyes on what was in front of him and around him, forgetting that ivy likes to creep along the ground, and for a moment he didn't pay attention to where he was stepping.

In addition, it was such a cold day, and I was wearing thick clothes. By the time I realized that something seemed wrong with my foot, I had already gotten one foot entangled in vines.

"Damn it!" Zhou Yang cursed, about to swing his knife to cut it off, but was pulled by the vine and fell to the ground, then quickly pulled back to the other end of the crowd.

"Wang! Wang! Wang!"

Pea was the first to realize that something was wrong with its owner, and immediately turned around and chased after it.

Its movement was immediately noticed by Shen Zechuan. When he turned around, he saw Zhou Yang being pulled away by the vines, and he was so frightened that he lost his mind.

"Zhou Yang!"

Shen Zechuan screamed Zhou Yang's name at the top of his lungs and chased after her, but the vines were too fast, and Zhou Yang disappeared in the blink of an eye.

"Damn! How did this thing come out from behind?! Lao Zhou, let's split up. You take your team to rescue the guy in front, and we'll go with Shen Zechuan and the others to rescue Zhou Yang!"

When Song Lian saw that there were vines behind them and that Zhou Yang was being dragged away, he immediately became furious.

They not only lost several brothers this time, but also a spatial ability user. They absolutely cannot lose this one, otherwise even if he goes back and atones with his death, it won't be enough.

Zhou Yang, who was being dragged away, stumbled and fell all the way, even hitting his forehead and getting a cut. If he hadn't been wearing thick clothes, he would have had several cuts on his forehead.

After being dragged along, winding and turning for several minutes, Zhou Yang suddenly lost his balance and fell into a hole in the ground. This time, he rolled down again, causing him to grimace in pain. When he finally came to a stop, he realized that he had been dragged into a deep pit, surrounded by corpses dressed in camouflage.

Seeing that he was about to be dragged to some unknown place, Zhou Yang flashed into the space, and the vines wrapped around his feet were instantly cut off as he disappeared.

The remaining vines shook off the broken parts, searched the surrounding area again, but still couldn't find the missing prey, so they had no choice but to leave dejectedly.

Meanwhile, Zhou Yang, upon entering the space, immediately tore off the mutated ivy vines from his feet and tossed them aside.

Then, too lazy to move, he simply plopped down on the grass.

He needs to think about what to do.

We can only hide here temporarily; we can't stay here forever. Pea and the others are still outside.

He hadn't thought about whether anyone would come to rescue him. First, he had the communication equipment in his space, so the two captains probably wouldn't abandon him directly. Second, he believed that Shen Zechuan and the others would come to rescue him. Third, no matter what, his pea would never abandon him.

However, he couldn't just sit and wait for others to rescue him, in case they couldn't defeat the mutated ivy, so self-rescue was necessary.

After much thought, he decided that fire attack was the most suitable method.

This should be the main base of the mutated ivy, and its main root system should also be here. However, to burn or even kill it over a large area, gasoline would definitely be needed.

However, the vines certainly wouldn't let him pour gasoline on them, but luckily he had the cheat code of space.

He could grab a gasoline can and run away from the vines as soon as he left the space, trying to pour the gasoline onto the roots of the ivy. If any vines got tangled in him, he could simply go back into the space to hide for a while. Although this was a bit tiring, it was safer.

Time was of the essence. With a general strategy in mind, Zhou Yang got up and fetched a few buckets of gasoline. After taking a sip of spring water to bolster his courage, he carried a bucket of gasoline out of the space.

Upon exiting the space, Zhou Yang noticed that there seemed to be no vines around him. Thinking he was lucky, he immediately found the location of the roots and poured the gasoline down. As soon as he poured a little, the ivy sensed something was wrong and manipulated its vines to surround him. Zhou Yang dropped the oil can and turned to run, throwing some liquor around as he ran. Just as the vines were about to touch him, he immediately flashed back into the space.

Zhou Yang squatted down, panting heavily, and drank a large bowl of spring water to regain his strength.

Because I drank too quickly, a small portion of the spring water dripped down and seeped into the ground beneath my feet, right where I had thrown away the ivy vines earlier.

The broken branch smelled something fragrant flowing into the soil below, so it gently twisted and used the only bud on the broken branch to take root in the soil, trying its best to absorb that substance so that it could continue to live.

Zhou Yang, who was still calming down, did not notice the subtle change in his footing. After catching his breath, he went out again.

This time, as soon as he went out, countless vines guarded him. Zhou Yang only had time to haphazardly scatter gasoline before quickly retreating back into his spatial dimension.

After returning to his space this time, Zhou Yang felt that next time he would have to just start it on fire, as the vines outside probably wouldn't give him a chance to continue sprinkling gasoline.

So he found a strip of cotton cloth, soaked it in alcohol, and then, after wrapping it around the technologically advanced tip of the arrow, set it on fire.

Then he took the crossbow he had bought and flashed out of the space. Once he was on his feet, he ignored the vines that were about to pounce on him, found the direction of the roots, and shot the arrow.

The arrow pierced through countless vines and struck the main root directly. The sparks on the arrow, fueled by the gasoline, instantly ignited into a raging fire.

The vines that were originally about to attack Zhou Yang sensed the danger to the main root and ran back to fight the fire. However, the more they tried to put it out, the more fiercely the fire burned, and many of the vines even caught fire themselves.

Seeing that the ivy was about to go berserk, Zhou Yang decisively hid back in his space, planning to wait inside until the fire outside had burned down a bit more before coming out.

Unbeknownst to Zhou Yang, who had hidden in the space, the ivy vines lashed out at the corpse of a soldier with two grenades strapped to his body, accidentally knocking the corpse and grenades into the fire near the main root.

Then, with a "bang," the entire underground cavern erupted in chaos.

When Zhou Yang had been in the space for a while, he put on a gas mask and went outside. All that was left was a dark and foul-smelling wasteland. He was buried solidly in the soil, but fortunately, he was left with a place to lie down and breathe...
